OK, time for a bit of 'trivia'. here's what I want to know:
1. how to change the tech database (i think it has something to do with those table thingys?)
2. how do you put music into FS2? i've put the file (and it's wav format) into the music folder, but it won't appear in FRED, so therefor i can't select it. There's only one file, and i know the limit is eight, so...
And I might as well do my pimping too...
I'm creating a mini-campaign called "Untitled", based on the extra FS2 mission called "Third Watch". It's gonna do two things: show people that I'm out there and I can be hired, and for me to get a chance to use some of the SEXPs i've never used. so, if u are interested, i suggest you play the mission to set the scene.

Species.tbl has the information in the tech room for subspace, etc. Unless the SCP has changed anything, you can't add, only replace entries.
Ships.tbl & weapons.tbl contain ships & weapons data (duh! :) ), and also tech descriptions and the names of selection anis / tech anis, etc, where relevant.
There is a music.tbl as well. I don't know much of this, but IIRC there are format limits on the type of wav you use, you need multiple wavs which are played for different events and I believe there is also a limit upon the total number of music 'tracks' you can have. Someone else will be able to give proper specifics.
It's worth remembering pretty much everything put in-game has to be referenced in some table or the other.

Don't want to discourage you Inferno but you might want to take a look at my proposal on this (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,26495.msg531980.html#msg531980) thread. If I can get it off the ground it will certainly get new FREDders like yourself a lot more help and attention than you'd get working on your own.
Besides you might want to suggest your mini-campaign plotline as it might be exactly the sort of thing I was looking for.

Well, if u read the command briefing in Third Watch, and speaks of any enemy coming back for revenge on the alliance. the story tells of how the GTVA gets back to Sol, and then the Shivans come back from a secret node in Ross 128, and go on a path to Sol. i've got the general story from there, basically everything that happens. not sure if it's the best thing, but I find FREDing to be the only hobby i actually do, aside from playing FS2. lol, i know i'm obssessed. so, what do u think. it's going to be ten missions, maybe nine.

I don't recall any mission called 3rd watch. when/where was it released ?

go into the FS2 tech room, click on mission simulator. it should be there.
-
It isn't in my simulator, what is the mission's "codename," like sm3-01 or sm2-05?

Just a note, you can add TBL entries. At least, for ships. I did it yesterday.
Although I don't think you can do it with TableView or whatever that program is...you have to use a text editor. It's a little slower, but it works.

Let me guess. You've got the Sim of the Year edition? :D
The mission should be available from the VW Archives if it's a SotY mission.
