Here's another dose of BWO screens:
The Charon uses its defense systems against an incoming invader... YOU!
Blackwater defends a convoy in Beta Aquilae.
The plot thickens in the distant Delphi system...
-
Very colorful nebulas in the second shot. Ugly nebula in the last... Atleast I hope it's a nebula, and not a 'nEw SUBspAse aniMAtIoN!!1'
-
Err. I actually PREFER the nebula in the third shot to the second one.
-
I didn't say I liked any of them :p
I don't mind the swirly bit, but the one that juts straight through it is icky. The Blue puffs, however, are kinda nice in that one.
-
*ahum* Those are what are called 'jets' Raa, you know those things that shoot out of supernovae/blackholes etc.? ;)
-
streams of light that are somehow able to escape?
-
Hawking radiation :D

I call them ugly. ;)
It looks like a nebula map that was stretched and rotated slightly. Or like a Solarcell messup. Eitherway, I don't like it. :p
And since when was FS scientific-ly sound? :p

I'm kind of baffled.
How can that be ugly?
Oh well, to each his own.
-
holy crapo that last one, the portal or nebula or whatever is a masterpiece! Damn its really nice!

To make it I stretched a regular FS nebula map. I thought about making a special nebula image just for this but since Volition has used a technique like this before in their missions (stretching nebulas to make gas jets and other things like that), I felt this would be more FSish and wouldn't clog the tables with more one-time-used artwork.
If a lot of people complain that it looks bad, it'll be changed.
-
I think I'm the only one who will. ;p
-
Probably, yeah.
It really wouldn't hurt to see how the alternative Ace has in mind would look, but this one suits me just fine by itself.
-
Shut up Snipes, the last picture rocks. :p
-
Well, if you like effects that look like ass, then yes. Yes it does. :p
Ok, it's not that bad. But I'm not a fan of stretching or compressing nebulas to make things like that...

I could change the effect overall and you can just resize it to your liking.
Infact I was thinking that a nice gas jet would look nicer indeed. The trick is making it work in Photoshop that way.
Keep in mind that not all things are entirely final but comments are good.

The galaxy nebula image there by the way was made over 3 years ago and the new nebulas seen in other images are ones I made a month ago. My skills have improved. Plus the new ones are in high color and the galaxy is in low color. Expect a better finished result.

Looking at the first picture, you need to do something about the engine trails on the fighters there. Trails are cool, but the way they consumethe whole fighters ass-end in this picture is just absurd.

This one doesn't gain my liking. The second picture is OK, but the goldish nebula somehow doesn't fit (Free)space. The first shot is a nice one anyway.

I second Raa on that, though :p
-
Am i the only one that likes the gold bluish nebula? To me the other nebulas are ugly and that's the only good looking one.
-
People differ.
-
The nebula's are pretty, and cool screenshots. What is that unknown ship supposed to be? :)
-
Me lieks....
-
I think the last one will look better if the two blue nebuli were seperated, or resized, or something. Looks sorta cluttered.
-
Nice looking screenies.
-
grrr, Raa!!! Its such an amazing picture, how could you make him change it :(
If anyone has played homeworld 2, you would notice a lot of their portal's or hyperspace animation things have those streaks of light coming out and it look damn cool.
You should count my vote for keeping it as +2 cuz I'm going into 3d art :)
-
Good pictures.
Looks like a Neutron star with an accention disc but nothing to draw the accention disc from ...really should have a planet (gas) or lesser star near it otherwise it'd be dark and the stream it would throw off would be black :P
From a science point of view.
Still I think they look good.

I'm not making anyone do anything. They can keep it if they want. It's their campaign. But I[/i] don't like it.
-
I don't either, but...
I try to imagine it the way I want it :D

Those were the default 32 bit engine trails in the FS Open media .vp.
Since those shots were taken I've made new trails for BWO.

It's normal. Not everybody likes everything.
-
Hmm, so by the looks of it, the Sol Faction takes over the Charon. I like the swirly nebula/neutron star in the third pic, but the "jet" looks a little awkward. And the plot thickens, eh? Looks as if the Shivans may be in BWO afterall.
-
BTW, Ace, are you going to add these screens to the BWO site database?

As it has been said before, there are no Shivans in BWO.

Plot Plot
The plot thickened. . .

so hows your car coming along raa :)
-
:wtf:
-
Well Snipes/Raa is fixing his car check this thread

I think that nebula in the third screenshoot looks wicked-cool too. I don't know why people wouldn't like.
I don't think it's much different than something like the binary system in the original FS2 campaign where there's a piece of nebula connecting the two stars. I don't think it's un-freespace-ish

Shhhhhhhhhh! I don't want to know!
-
Actuall, a few shivans might have been nice but I am perfectly happy with not having them. There are far more campaigns with shivans in them than not.
-
IS that the Delphi system as in Derelict?
-
The one and only :)
I think it's supposed to have an unstable node that leads to Kaus Borealis or Geinah Cygni

neat.
GTVI still has to find the MTD Auriga :p
-
Yea, thats right. I always wanted to know what happened to that ship. Same with the GTVI Enigma.
-
Not to mention the other parts of the rogue intelligence faction.
