Title: HERO with Jet Li
Post by: Corsair on August 27, 2004, 10:50:23 pm: I saw Hero tonight and I'd just like to say that I thought it was absolutely amazing. I'd definitely recommend it to just about everyone. I thought that the images were amazing, even if the dialogue was not fantastic. The words were not important because the pictures on the screen spoke for themselves. One of the reviews I read of it called it poetic, and that's exactly what it was. :yes::yes: from me.

it's amazing how long it takes some movies to be officially released in the US. i mean i remember Iron Monkey. that movie was released a good 10 years after its release in the rest-of-the-world :p

I watched it in the movies here when it came out, and I did like the lovely colors and crapload of arrows, but still. It was just too "Oh now this is the moment you're supposed to feel emotional. And now is the moment your suppose to think about the ways of the world." I dunno. It was alright like I said. Acting was good, plot was ok. but still...

Hero is already out on DVD in China. If you go there and try to bring back a DVD of a movie that has not been released in this country and get caught by customs, they will give you a very big fine. It is pretty easy to get around that though.

I'm still hunting for a completely "uncut" version of it.

what's that bs about dvd's getting caught in customs, though? got a source to back it up with? I thought dvd regions were just the movie companies way to **** us customers over and over again.

yeah it's been out for years. i watched the VCD about three years ago, and it was the official release from China.

i don't think you can get in trouble with customs... they don't memorize every. single. movie. that's been released in the USA. you might be right though. but my friend just brought the movie right in when he went on holiday to China

Anyhow yeah that's the one but has anyone else who's watched it noticed that you could take out al the fight scenes and the movie would still be a hell of a lot better than most of the crud hollywood churns out?

BTW all of you should see Zatoichi, it's a Beat Takeshi movie and it rules.

ah, I see. I saw Versus (http://imdb.com/title/tt0275773/) and Azumi (http://imdb.com/title/tt0384819/) about the same time as I saw zatoichi. can recommend them both. same director for both of those movies.

oh, and Princess Blade (http://imdb.com/title/tt0310149/) is so good. yumiko shaku is cute.

Post by: Tiara on August 29, 2004, 03:16:19 pm: Pretty good movie... Although some of the fights were a little bit less then smooth. I love the floating and fighting stuff but sometimes it looked like someone gave a good jank to one of the ropes :p

Also, the ending was a bit morbid with almost every main character dying through either suicide or execution :p
