Think the title's pretty self descriptive, simply list a movie you think is great and hasn't got much coverage or if you can't think of one, a movie that you really enjoyed.
For myself; I've been pimping it quite a lot and can recommend Zatoichi by Beat Takeshi if you like stylish, thought provoking and funny action movie with a japanese flavour.
Also check out the Cowboy Bebop movie, only saw it yesterday and it was utterly excellent (don't think it's very obscure though).

To stay in the asiatic films, I managed to find my dvd of Drunken Masters. I think this one will stay my all-time favorite Jackie Chan movie :)

alrighty
Atlantis - Luc Besson directs. Best underwater film ever. Ever. No plot, just the most beautiful cinematography you've ever seen. (http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/forums/images/sendpm.gif) ("http://dynamic4.gamespy.com/~freespace/forums/private.php?s=&action=newmessage&userid=644")
The Corporation - Best analysis to date of corporations, the dominant institutions of our time. Noam Chomsky, Michael Moore, Howard Zinn, Naomi Klein and a whole bunch of CEOs (Shell, Goodyear etc)
The Triplets of Bellville - Possibly the best cartoon ever. At this calibre, its not even just animation any more, its art.
The City of God - In the City of God, a slum in Rio di Jenero (sp?), the story of the neighborhoods kids growing up. Gangs, drugs, and the protagonist's quest to survive and makle something better of himself.
edit: I should mention that the last 3 of these are NOT available on Nova. Nope, not there. Don't even bother checking, cause they are most certainly not there.

Face
Boondock Saints
er....I'm sure there's a really good one which I've forgotten, too. Really emotionally involving, like, but I can't even remember what the story was.
-
I'll agree with Atlantis, the Music is, as always, by Eric Serra, and is as haunting and effective as ever :)
Mr Hollands Opus, not sure how well known it was the first time round, but an excellent film nonetheless, probably doesn't class as a 'no-ones heard of' but there you go :)
Sex Kittens in..... no, maybe not ;)

What category is Atlantis?

[l]Documentary. If you can't find it, just use the Search button.[/l]
We don't condone discussion of warez on here, I tell you what. Put that down! Chew with your mouth closed! Don't you give me any lip young man! I swear, I'll turn this car around! Dont think I won't, cause I'll do it. :p :p
aldo, by Face, do you mean the thing with John Cleese or are you talking about something else entirely?
Flipside: finally, someone else who's seen it. ;) ;)
and though it was several years ago, I remember Mr.Holland's Opus as generally outstanding.

Sorry
It's not on there anyway...

Pi- Really surreal movie in black and white about a mathematician who is in pursuit of this perfect pattern.
The Straight Story- Film about this guy in a rural part of the US who finds out his brother has had a stroke. He hasn't spoken to his brother since they had a fight many years ago, so he decides he has to go visit him, and he travels on his tractor mower. The ending makes the whole movie worth it.
Big Trouble- Comedy with Tim Allen that came out a couple years ago. Didn't get a lot of attention but I thought it was funny as hell.
Battlefield: Earth :D

Actually, any Takeshi film can be recommended, the best is probably "Hana-Bi", followed by "Violent Cop".
I can also support Ford's vote for "Pi". Great movie if your at least slightly interested in mathemathics.....or want to get a impression how a bad migraine feels like.
-
Yeah, I really should go and rent Pi. I mean, its Darren Aaronofsky, Kaballah and math, nuff said.
another film that I found very, very similar to Requiem for a Dream, to the point where I was sure that it was the same director/cinematographer is Spun. Basically, its just a sort of junkie story, not quite a comedy and not quite a drama. And I don't know who was ripping off whom, but the style is almost identical to Requiem.

titanic.

Why does everyone mention scientology when Battlefied: Earth is brought up? I know John Travolta is a scientologist but I think there's something I'm missing.
-
Supposedly it's filed with post-hypnotic-pro-scientology suggestion.
I read the book, it was harmless, not particularly well written fun. The kind of thing your average 14 year old would write. I've never been interested in scientology or Hubbard who seems to be a loon.

-
The book is what scientology is based on.
It's like not mentioning christianity when discussing The Passion of the Christ.
-
Star Quest (avoid part II at all costs, and expect heavy plagiarism)
Mindtrap (bruce campbell, 'nuff said)
-
Belleville Rendevous (proper title for the film Rictor mentioned :D) Awesome animation, funny as a very funny thing.
Magnolia. Yeah, you probably have heard of it, but it's bloody good, best thing Tom Cruise has ever been in by a long way.
Spirited Away (Miyazaki) - pinnacle of Jap animation IMO. Stunning. Same goes for most Miyazaki stuff, but this is the only one I saw on the big screen, so the impact was bigger...
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Johnny Depp and friend in a car. Boot of car is full of drugs. Depp and friend take the drugs. Awesome.

Heheh excellent movie.
There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. And I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon.
BTW anyone seen Princess Mononoke? What was all the hype about, pretty disappointing IMHO.

though for me it was kinda confusing at first. i mean god dam it? spirts world? huh?
but still great film.

SpaceTruckers (or something similar - cant remember the name properly): Pretty funny take on trucks and space, what else? ;)
Edward Scissorhands: Ok, so you've heard about it - but watch it if you haven't, its an awesome movie, to say the least :)

Even better was the fact that it's almost identical to the book and one the only cases I've ever seen of a film and a book complementing each other so well.
Hunter S. Thompson is a great author. Made even better by the fact that Fear and Loathing is actually a true life experience.

SPACE TRUCKERS? How the mighty Dennis Hopper has fallen (could he have been massively in debt to the mob?) The dude jumped started a mechanical penis !!! (scary ****)...
Anyway on my obscure "must see" list are the following:
Voyage Into Space (the LIVE action release of giant robo late 60's)
Hawk the Slayer (This is what D&D the movie should have been, plus Jack Palance is in it! WOOT!!!)
Lightyears (From the mind of Issac Asimov an American inspired anime)...
Sea Prince and the Fire child (A story about love and racial hatred between Fire and Water) BTW I immediately recognised Rick Hunter's voice as the same voice for Prince Sirious about 5 years before... Plus the ending (while sad) shows the princess evolve with ONE HUGE RACK (though I like her the way she was originally)!!! This was on prime time late 70's. Go family programming, WOOT!
Galaxy of Terror. Cheesy sci-fi horror with Joanie from happy days, a dude with crystal shurikens, my favorite martian is the bad guy, and a woman gets raped by a giant worm (somehow?)... See it once to know what bad sci-fi really is :D
Super Fuzz. Trinity the coybow is back as a cop who gets super powers. Ernest Borgnine is his partner... About as entertaining as the Greatest American Hero was for teachers....
Set the wayback machine Sherman cause we got to get the HELL outta here, it's getting too wierd.... :P

Gods Army: A really good Cristopher Walken movie. Also stars Viggo Mortensen as the devil. The sequels sucked tho.

The movie better known as The Prophecy in the UK and probably in the US.
Excellent movie but it makes me feel sorry for Christopher Walken somewhat. He's always playing the bad guy. I can imagine the conversation he had with his agent. I bet he thought it would be different this time.
"Chrisy baby, I've got you a new gig. You're playing the Archangel Gabriel in this new flick"
"Great. I finally get to play the good guy. It's been years since The Dead Zone."
"ummm. No. You're an angel but you're an evil angel."
"Figures!"
:D

Agreed - very disturbing but cool movie. That and Donnie Darko.

My vote has to go to Freespace: Favorite Foe.

The Legend of 1900.
Ha! I bet none of you saw that, or if you did, you'll never admit to it.\
Seriously, great movie. Awesome acting, and just the right level of drama.
-
K-PAX was a superb film.
Also, I'm going to add my favorite movie of all time, Amelie. It's the most beautifully uplifting film I've ever seen.

Donnie Darko (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0246578/)

meh, I didn't think Amelie was all that great. Not as original or coll as I imagined it would be.
also, now that someone brought up Kevin Spacey, despite the fact that I think he's an egotistical ass, he's done a bunch opf good movie. Ordinary Decent Criminals and Life of David Gale come to mind.
edit: hey, anyone seen Tigerland?
-
Don't forget The Usual Suspects. Excellent film. But why is Kevin Spacey an egotistical ass?
Oh yeah, if you don't like Amelie you're going to hell. :D
-
yeah, Usual Suspects ruled if only for the extrordinary amount of cool names present. Dude, Kaiser Soze. You can't beat that, thats like the ulimate name.
I think he's egotistical because in all of his movies, he always has to play the central and "I'm way smarter than everyone else" figure. I don't blame him, I'de do the same thing, but the fact is he always has to play a character who is so much smarter and better than everyone else. Though thats not to say that he's not a good actor,
...and in my defence, I was sort of playing compouter games and half watching Amelie over my shoulder, so maybe thats why.
-
Yeah. I think he fits that part well, though. His voice has this great quiet precision that gives him the sound of someone whose wheels are really turning.
