Title: Warhammer 40k toonz I did.
Post by: Dark_4ce on September 02, 2004, 11:16:22 am
Alrighty. By some means or other, Games Workshop wanted me to make a small trailer/presentation for the new box release of the battle of macragge. Its pritty much gonna be a 2 min moving comic book. So heres some pics I did for it. We built and painted the figures, and then I took pics of them and finally photoshopped them. See what you think.

Yeah, I was trying to get that graphic novel feel. But I still gota crap load more of them to do for the end of today. I guess I can post up the little trailer animation once I'm done with it.

Awsome.
Hey, if you have Games workshops ear tell em to drop there prices, and they might get some more sales = bigger customer base = more money. Capatalist pigs!

... :P
hehehe.

But yeh nice work, I likey. I'm just wondering if it would work better with less speech bubbles and more 'voice over'.

I always see the Space Marines as half evil, and having them talk in a friendly fashion like that kinda takes that away. With no speech bubbles, you would leave the character judging up to the reader.
But I'm just rambling... :)

Keep up the awsome work!

(btw any updates? :D)

-Gruggy

EDIT: Oh and how come the Carnifex isn't going "ROOAWRR!" :D hehehhe

Yeah, those speech bubbles were there for little while only, I took them off now. So the finnished product doesent have any anymore. The trailer is about 58mb big, and I dont have a ftp host big enough for it yet. But I'll put it up as soon as possible when I can. The trailer thing doesent have any Voice Overs either, I didn't have the time, but it also kinda gave the Space Marines a sort of "profesionality" to them. Pritty much the only thing you hear apart from the ambient noises is when they die their grueling horrible deaths.

[color=66ff00]Sculpt your own dude, it's far more fun and you don't get charged the GNP of a small island to own them.

gamesworkshop are like metallica, they relied on their fan base to get them known and now they screw them with every ounce of their being.

Irrespective of content it's mighty work Dark_4ce, I'd lessen up on the blizzard effect to show off a bit more of your paintwork though.

Hmmmmm.... Well, GW isn't really trying to screw anyone over. But the future looks bright. I promise.

Aaanyway, heres something I quickly did in between the project. :D

Nice! :D
Can't wait to see more of these...

Maeglamor - I lack the materials and the skill to carve my own unfortunatly, I have enough trouble painting the damn things :p.
What would I use anyway? Clay?

I actually thought about making my own metal plates etc, and mass producing them for me and some mates...

But I'm not that much a fanatic about 40k any more I guess...

It would be good to be able to sculpt though, that way I could go from concept sketch and thicken out some of my ideas for characters in other games etc.

I really need to sit down and practice some of these things, so I might actually get good at them one day :p. I need an injection of enthusiasm. hehehe :)

But yeh, can't wait to see more Dark_4ce :)

[color=66ff00]There's a nice modelling material called supersculpey, it's like plasticine as long as it's kept cool but you can bake it in the oven (conventional home oven) for 20 mins. and it becomes rock hard ceramic.

I've seen some of my mates use "gray stuff" much like green stuff, but better. And the stuff they sculp is amazing. look into it.

Indeed.

I might just do that...
The only drawback I can think of is that wouldn't your army way a ton?
It would be considerably heavier than the plastic wouldn't it?

But I guess that it wouldn't matter that much. They wouldn't weigh much more than the metal figurines would they?

Alrighty, here it is, the trailer! Now, I must warn you. I did it in a week. And all the sound effects and music are from games/movies/cds. But it was fun to make anyway.

Downloading now :D

Can't waits! :)

Edit:

Oh My God!

That is bloody AWSOME!

The pics definitly don't do it justice... :)

That is some awsome work there mate!

It seemed mysterious, and just when I thought I might get bored of it the fighting brakes out. Hehehehe.

Kudo's to the screams at the end!
And the Godzilla music ;)

Dude, I hope there are more of these to come... would be heaps bloody awsome! Excellent work!

On a side note, do you think you could do a Desktop wallpaper with some of the scenes from the movie?

Maybe a couple of the ones with the bodies or the marine's being impaled etc. :D

Maybe you could do a windows theme as well? :p
With the screams as error messages etc.

hehehe.

Again, totally awsome! :D

EDIT: Surely this is highlight's material? :D

40k comes from www.games-workshop.com

Tis a table top game involving plastic models which you collect and paint yourself.
They charge an arm and a leg for the damn things but the game itself is ok I guess...

The main thing that keeps it alive is the fictional universe its based on. There's just so much detail on all these different aliens and history of mankind etc.

The novels on offer are usually pretty good reading, it does help if you read some of the history from the rulebook etc. But yeh... $$$$

If you just visit a games workshop store you can have a spy at some of the things they paint. Some of the details they put in is clinicly insane...

[color=66ff00]Pretty damn great. :yes:

Good use of effects to imply movement, I would only have added one thing which is a bit of track movement on the APC (can't remember it's name). Music was well chosen too, fitted the atmosphere.

Kudos.

Nope sorry. Nothing new to add. Seems like the head honchos somehow forgot about it, unfortunately. As Ogre Kingdoms is coming out in January. Oh well, no biggie, working on other stuff now. :D
