Title: SOC Models
Post by: InfernoGod on September 03, 2004, 03:31:32 pm
Anybody have some SOC models I can use for my mini-campaign and possibly future campaigns I may do? Any help would be appreciated. And, does anybody have a ship table that I can use to add the models to FS? Thanks.:)
EDIT: I got the SOC MODpack for Inferno, but I could use a few more MODs.

Check out Stratcomm's Site (http://www.geocities.com/cek_83/index.html)  , it should have some goodies there you can use.

Try the links in my siggy.  Depends on how you define 'SOC ship' though.

Su-tehp, StratComm:

Would this be a good time to release the SOCv Oculus?

Does anyone still have it?  If it's in a releaseable state, then by all means do so.

The GTF Banshee's always a good place to start. You might also want to look into Venoms recently released new Ezechial.

Well, with the demise of DatDB, here's a treat for everybody: the SOCv Oculus command frigate.

DOWNLOAD (http://www.3dap.com/hlp/hosted/datdb/GE/oculus.zip)

The Oculus is a dedicated command frigate, but with built-in AWACS capability for scanning, nebula sensor extension, stealth fighter decloaking, and communications jamming. A triple-redundant sensor array covers the entire electromagnetic spectrum, picking up radio, infrared, ultraviolet, microwave, subspace, you name it. These systems also make it much harder to incapacitate. The small recovery bay lets the craft pick up covert special-ops recon fighters; this would be the sort of ship that you would have returned to after the undercover SOC loop missions.

And this would be the perfect ship upon which to mount an ETAK device- its specialized functions and enhanced comm arrays would be superb. There are lots of plot possibilities in this thing. Standard fighter complement is 4 Pegasus recon fighters, 4 Erinyes point defense fighters, 4 Artemis D.H. medium bombers. Feel free to upgrade the weapons to ULTRA AAAs and BGreens and slave them into a TAG system.

That said, you have to see this in action in-game for the animated sensor dishes. Check it out. Anyway, this is a collaboration between me (concept, texturing, POF data,) StratComm (hull design,) and Sheepy (dish maps.)
Anyone can use it, so have a blast, guys. :D

I still feel like those panels are too big, but no matter.  The effect is actually quite cool-looking.  It's not huge, but it does have a fighterbay.  I'd recommend this as an alternate AWACs or just as a multirole corvette.

I saw it, but I don't count as far as release is concerned ;)

That said, let me see what I can do...

Too dark, I can't see a damned thing! :(
Post of a screen shot of it in a really bright nebula, or being hit with beam canons or something :D

I see it and think: "ooh. Big Peacock!"

It's a nice design and all, but it doesn't look terran enough to be a GTA.

That and I'm sick of all the SOC ships being super dark... just because 3 canon ships were. :doubt:

I like it! Its arrays look sorta like Asian fans... you could also call it the Tessen, if you didn't think "Oculus" suited it. (Personally I think Oculus would better suit a dedicated Awacs vessel, but eh, I didn't make it, not my say :))

I'd like it better tho, if Modelview wouldn't keep giving me the ">20 vertex poly" error.

This has happened with a dizzying number of models of late, and I wonder if it might have something to do with my using the Retail version rather than Open? I got the same error with TrashMan's Mammoth, and ended up with some unterminated polies -- triangles that extend infinitely -- when put into FRED or the game engine.

You need the newer modelview. The one with upped limits. For HTL models.

Hmm - I made lots and lots of SOC ships from Homeworld strike craft.  Remember the Tigris DH and the Canis DH?  Well, I also have an SOC version of the Taiidani multigun (anti-strike craft) and the Taiidani minelayer (bomber) that have a decent SOC texture job and are both fully LODded and debris-ed.

The only problem is that I'm at JHU (college) right now, and my models - well - are at home.  But maybe I can get my father (the real Rampage) to post them for you.

Cheers!

It's called Occulus because it originally was going to be an AWACS.
