Celtic
-
I listen to anything as long as I'm not opposed to the singer/band/composer in principle.
I won't, for example, listen to Boy George because he's a pretentious, conceited, faggot.
-
I like classical, ragtime, jazz/swing, popular music up through about the '40s, and some musical theatre.
I also love Pink Floyd.
-
Soundtracks! They make up 90% of what I listen to, if not more.
-
I listen anything that sounds good
-
Mostly anything with the word "metal" in the genre name...classic rock, some new rock, some alternative, classical, no rap.
-
rap
soundtracks
trip-hop
electronic/trance
-
I have a very strange mix of tastes considering I'm not much of a music fan :p. Let me give you an example of my CD collection: I listen to all 3 LOTR movie soundtracks, 3 Doors Down, Linkin Park, the Beatles "1" anthology, Simon and Garfunkel Greatest Hits, and the soundtrack from the game Riven. I'm also a big fan of computer/video game music. My favorite has to be the Descent 2 redbook audio; it has some truly awesome industrial tracks. I also like such varied games as Descent 1/2/3 in-game tracks, the Freespace 1/2 soundtracks, Twisted Metal 2/3/4, Age of Mythology, The Incredible Machine 3.0 (this one has just about every style you could think of, from ragtime to hip-hop :p), THPS 1/2/3, and Demolition Racer. I also enjoy some electronic music released by some members of the Descent online community; the Descent Community Album, which they put together a year or so ago, has a great mix of tracks.
And, last but not least, there's "Strong Bad Sings and Other Type Hits." There's no way you can't like that one :p.

Impressed by the amount of Bill Hicks stuff on there. I tend to burn it to listen to in the car. But only on motorway journeys. I tend to get strange looks at traffic lights otherwise :D
-
Queens of the Stone age, any thing i like the sound of.

The guys been dead for what, ten years now? He's still the sharpest, freshest and most cynical comedian on the block and the relevance of his material STILL, shows how insightful the guy was.
Is it an embarassing thing to know most of those MP3's word for word? :nervous:
-
I know loads of his stuff word for word too so I'm going to have to say no :D
-
Punk(hardcore mostly)/Ska/Hardcore for the most part, with abit of emo an rock.
-
I'll listen to almost anything if I think it's good.
Some poppy stuff, classical, ragtimes, games music (Like from C&C, Sonic, Doom...), metal (Well, anything with chunky riffs and crazy screaming shredding guitar solos! Although I try to avoid things with annoying singers... thank smeg Dream Theatre do instrumental stuff...), demoscene music (e.g. www.scenemusic.net)
-
It's more a case of what I don't listen to.
- Femal pop singers with relationship problems - Dido, Joss Stone, Natasha Beddingfield, Nelly Fur.... gah, I'm not going to bother looking up the spelling. Shut up, please.
- Metal. Its not the 90's anymore. And 'Nu meta'l is for kids.
- American "I've got more guns than you" rap. 50 Cent for instance. I wish I'd gone to see him at the Leeds festival, and boo him off the stage with the rest of the croud. Fortunatly for Mr Cent, I went to see a proper artist/preformer play at that time.
- Overly succesful bands. Getting played every 10 minutes on the radio kinda puts me off their songs.
Aside from these general factors I'll listen to any sort of genre and enjoy it, just depends on the artist/act.
A few ways a band could earn my respect would be:
- Having decent songs, for a start. I like something new and experimental, but still listenable.
- Must be good live. I've seen my favourite band 12 times, (with tickets for the 13th, 14th and 15th gig in october) - and I've only been even mildly dissapointed twice - once because the venue seemed far too small and you literally couldn't move in the crowd, and once when they played a record store recently and you couldn't see the band unless u were at the front becuase there wasn't a stage.
Live, is how I enjoy my music most, it can make or break a band in my opinion.
- Mainstream bands are a bit of a turn-off as i've mentioned, but they should be acssessible too, there's less point in liking a band I recon if you can't even get their CD the internet.
Well its a tough list but I'm not going to devote my precious ear-time to anyone.
A few bands who fit the bill would include The Super Furry Animals, The Cooper Temple Clause, and Biffy Clyro (who are all British bands, if anyone hasn't heard of them).

[color=66ff00]Richard Prior and Billy Connelly kick his ass for the funnay in my books.

Ricky Grover kicks all their asses.
He's the only person in the world who can get away with making midget jokes.
All 28st of him lumbers on stage wearing a black leather jacket and he kicks off his set with: "I find black to be very slimming".
-
It's not what bands to listen but instead of what songs/musics to listen to, only 2 bands so far have many songs/musics I like... that is the Beatles and Queen.
beatspete, listen to Dido - Here with me :p
-
It just occured to me I should also state I listen to Zero 7 - but not sure what Genre you'd drop 'em in.

Ever heard of Reindeer Section (http://www.bbc.co.uk/manchester/music/2002/06/24/reindeer.shtml)? Sort of Scottish indie 'supergroup'. I'm still trying to track down their album for less than the overpriced cost it is in Virgin Buchanan St.
