FRED build 280720048 (the one recommended by Lightspeed), if I try to add a Fighter to the mission, or switch a current ship to a fighter (from a destroyer, say) FRED hangs. I then have to task manager my way out. So far Terran fighters, but not bombers or caps, though i haven't tried 'em all.
(FS T-20040802 build BTW) and I've gotm the htl flag on.
I'm using windows xp with a geforce 4mx.

I tried another FRED build and got all the usual dispaly errors when you don't apply FREDhtl
WTF?? It's okay last night!

I've done some testing and the problem seems to be the Perseus.
Any ideas anyone ?

You wouldn't happen to be using Nico's high poly Perseus by any chance?
Not that I'm maligning his ship but it could be an explaination :)

Nope. Clean install, no mods bar 3.6 stuff (nothin experimental, off the top of my head), and taylors optional vp with his build in the Release Forum.

Okay, I removed my_kpack.vp (by Krackers I think) and FRED nolonger hangs! Hurrah! Guess this means I won't be using Bob's high poly Perseus but it's a start.

Only it isn't 'cos now FRED crashs (generic "Please tell Microsoft yadda ya") when I load a mission.
This is startin' to f****** p*** me off.

@Lightspeed: does the FRED build you use display ships properly ? I'm finding it shows Lod1 unless the ship is right up against the camera (even with -fredhtl)

All the new builds do that, and have ridiculous rotation and movement degrees which are nothing like the old FRED - I still use an old Inferno limit build dated April 11th, because all the new ones have become progressively worse when using HTL.

Gets frustrating though 'cos the latest game builds look friggin' fantastic. I'm not really arsed about the display I just want a stable platform to work on.
