The title says it all. I searched on these forums for a while, but couldn't find anything really what I was looking for. I was wondering if there are any single missions out there, gigantic armada versus armada fights that I can participate in as just one of many many many ships. I want to see how large scale of battles can be had in Freespace 2.

What you are talking about is a BoE mission. These missions consist of large armadas shooting beams at eachother. They are only entertaining for n00bs who haven't seen beam cannons often, as the player doesn't play much of a part in said mission.
Actually...I don't thing i'll flame you. If you want to play one...go right ahead.

Its something thats a little shunned on around here, massive battles..
Someone will come along and explain this better than me.
These boards aren`t like most, they are pretty friendly here so you might get a spark rather than a flame, cheers..
(edit) Ooops, guess it was explained, well any way, as I said you got a spark instead of a flame :D

Hmm, not much of a welcome guys. :rolleyes:
Anyway, big battles are shunned because the player cannot really have a massive effect on the outcome (though they do look cool) Small scale battles where the bombers and fighters make the difference is what people aim for. Capital Ship battles are really just eye candy and for the story. The biggiest battles are IIRC in the Inferno mod though.

I'm searching for that now, so I can download it and watch it. Its really just mainly for a eyecandy thing. I want to see what those massive battles look like. I think the explosions of ships in this game are the coolest i've seen in a space sim despite its age.

I wouldn't mind seeing a few more BOE missions, if for nothing else than the awesome spectale they represent. Come on, we've all dreamed of having 20 capital ships pounding the crap out of each other :D.

There is a mission in "the Second Great War Part 2 IIRC (available from http:\\archives.volitionwatch.com ) with about 5 Colossuses, a Hades 3 Sathanes and loads of fighters

You can make one of those work, you know. You just have to figure out how to make Alpha play a part mostly seperate from yet involved with the rest of it. Maybe you're supposed to defend just one cruiser or something, and everything else has other escort wings.
My personal solution is to have Alpha knock out the enemy command ship's weapons subsystem or comms. If the weapons subsystem, it was coordinating fire-control for the enemy fleet, and now quite a few of their ships are having trouble hitting the broad side of a barn.
If it was the comms, which is harder to FRED but ultimately cooler-looking, the enemy fleet goes bonkers without their commander. So they start manuvering around and attacking apparently at random, and this is not a good thing for their chances of winning.

Aeos Affair has some good missions with lots of capships (though the campaign is fairly hard). Warzone has some good bombing action.
Where's that MP mission Cetanu made where a Deimos kills a Sathanas?

What about the best of both worlds?
Like having real time big beam fights taking place, but the player's objectives are to attack a ship not involved in that battle directly. It'd be kinda cool to see a huge beam fight taking place 3 clicks out, while you're trying to destroy a cruiser here and there. :)

One of the greatest moments in Derelict was a bit like that; you had to cover the reskinned Iceni, while the Shivan fleet mauled a GTVA battlegroup in the distance. You couldn't influence the battle in any way, but it added a lot of atmosphere.

Or alternatively, have it in the thick of battle but Alpha one having to destroy the central comm-node thats smack bang in the middle of a lattice of beam fire.

If you ment physically available - in my sig
If you ment what mission - cet_m03 aka BTS
just note that you won't see that event happen with SCP builds - to much changes to AI behaviour and weapon accuracy make it impossible to cover the Deimos long enough to see this final stage of the mission
even in vanilla 1.2 it needed good multiplayer pilots to bring the Deimos through the mission for this final head on head especially since the Sath only arrives when the mission difficulty is set on "hard"

I tried that a while ago on my mission, but I felt it simply distracted the player from the buisnness at hand (munching Shivans).

Lightning Marshall . . . . 3 I think has a pretty good beam-battle where you have to defend an Orion called the Los Angeles or something. I didn't get much father than that though, as the MOD seemed to cause my computer to crash on the main screen.

If you really want a big-beam-tons-of-stuff-blowing-up-battle, the final battle in FS2:Retail ought to cut it. Tons of capships, bombs, beams, oh my.

Actually, I have a massive battle in my own campaign, Legacy, I could share with you. You have to promise not to show it to ANYONE else, though, or it will spoil a lot of things.
I'll PM you with the link later, once I finish up some other things.

That campaign was just full of those things. There was one mission where 4 groups of bombers take out an entire Shivan fleet of 2 Corvettes, 4 Destroyers, and 12 Cruisers. It was pretty fun though.

Check out the second chapter of my campaign. Some of the missions have a high BoE factor to them.

The link for chapter 2 has been acting up for some reason. Something to do with Geocities I guess. My only advice is to keep on trying, and do it soon because I'm taking chapters 1-3 off the site for a little while to address certain bugs.

I was just thinking of that mission Stratcomm. Class! Did distract you from guarding the Echer(?) though. Sometimes the Edmunson survived though.

I think, the complete "Independence Warriors" have many BOE Missions.
