More rich people need to do **** like this. Kindness isn't a weakness, y'know. If she can afford it, it's a great thing.
-
she should have gave cars to the poeple on the bus. i hate the ****ing bus! stupid rich people get tax writeoffs by giving money to the middle class and calling it a charity. this bull**** has to stop.
*nuke dawns commie dictator hat*

[color=66ff00]If the crowd was chosen randomly and fairly then kudos to her, it was a nice thing to do (I'd assume she's not too out of pocket though, pontiac just got a great advertisement and the network funded it no doubt.).

The cars, which retail for $28,000, were donated by Pontiac
She added that Pontiac will pay for the taxes and the customizing of the cars.

Looks like Oprah didn't pay for them. But don't worry guys, saying things about rich people is fun.

"Winfrey said the audience members were chosen because their friends or family had written to the show about their need for a new car."
It wasn't random, and as the cars were donated, I don't think it could be a tax write off for her. But now we all know about the car, so Pontiac did what they wanted.
-
that's tight. i wish i was in the audience :(
-
Do you need a car?
-
I do.
-
I'd like one. I'd ask Oprah to Autograph it, and sell it on E-Bay. Then I'd use the money to get parts to make my car auto-x ready. ;)

yes, desperately. because having a car that can take most camaros, 350zs, and old corvettes out there has its disadvantages... 7 miles per gallon

I didn't know you owned a jet
-
that's because i don't.

hahahaha
honestly I feel bad for them.
-
Like all things in life, NOTHING is free.
-
$7000 for a new car? Oh noes!
-
Seriously, if you don't have the cash to pay the tax, you're borked. I heard about it on the Dutch news.
-
but you can sell the car and keep the profits though
-
But don't you have to pay the taxes in order to get posession of the car?
Look, I see where people are going with this, but if you're going to give someone something for free then that should mean FREE. No bills, no fees, no taxes, no nada. When that title is transfered, registration fees paid, taxes paid, that should be it. It was a nice gesture, but for naught. My first car was free. The price I had to pay was one dollar for the title transfer. Registration fees already paid for, taxes already paid for. Insurance, gas, and maintenance were my responsibility.
of course, it wasn't a 30,000 dollar new car.
-
no once they have taken possesion of the car. they owe the taxes at years end. They can use the profits from the car to pay the gift taxes.
-
Oh, okay I get it. Take posession of the car, sell the car, buy a lower priced model and pay off the taxes on the higher priced model with the profits. got it.
-
any most likley you will have money left over.
