I heard from the TBP guys that it had already had the code partially written for it, any chance that it's going to get finished? Please?
Another thing that I think should be addresed is docking stability, I think we should be able to define how "solid" a dock is so movement will not cause ships to lose docks. This would be useful especially if the 3D cockpit code is never finished because you could use a docked "ship" to create a 3d cockpit.

Has it really been 2 months already?
-
where's the dead horse picture?
i'll do something if someone gives me a simple cockpit model (ala freelancer)
-
What format? And how extensive?
-
Presumably pof, and just something to stick on screen to get occlusion and transform sorted I would assume. It doesn't have to be complicated, if that's what you're asking. It would need to be textured though, and have the general shape/proportions of a cockpit.
And Phreak's on the money with the dead horse thing. The last 10 or so of these topics have ended with the coders telling modelers to build a cockpit before they impliment it, while the modellers refuse to create anything until the feature is there.
-
putting it in that perspective, its rather comical.

I already have a model. Texturing it right now, and will get it into pof soon.
-
please just something simple like this.
-
Lol, made a really crappy stafury type cockpit. My 3d exploration just died so someone else is going to have to convert.
-
At least put up what you've got. I'd run it through 3dexploration in a couple of minutes, in the interest of putting this topic in its grave once and for all.
-
Fixed 3d explorer and uploading the crap in the next few minutes after I resize it (turned out to be 100 times what I want).
-
Okay now the cob2pof prog is screwing up.
-
Just ripped this from X-Wing Alliance and UVMapped it quickly. There is still a couple of struts not finished but thats minor as here is your 3d cockpit in POF form.

Heres the COB file and textures. The model definitely needs to be resized.

here a fifteen minute cockpit.
-
lol, everyones making one now.
-
mine's crap, I just did it becase I wanted to call Phreak's bluff
-
Nice source of inspiration, Bob.
-
once i finish off this essay for skool, i'll call bob's raise.
-
Good.
-
Finished yet?
-
*bump* You got your the cockpits. Was Bob right?
-
Woah, hold off there. Give Phreak a chance to play with it for a bit.
-
its like 1500 words +- 150. im at about 900. i should be done tonight, if not i have to email it to my prof my midnight saturday.
about cockpit rendering, it should be rather simple (famous last words). and i only know how to do it in opengl. i can probably post something in the internal to have bob or someone work on it.
-
Please get someone to do it in D3D! Thanks for trying to tackle this at all.
-
this isn't something that should be resticted by API implementations.
-
i need the stencil buffer stuff.
-
realy!?
-
yea. it'll prevent ships from appearing through the struts.
-
why not just render it after everything else?
-
if the cockpit is big enough, then there may be a very close ship rendering through a strut of some sort, it shouldn't occur that often however.
-
well if your going to add stencil buffer stuff make it generaic as posable.
-
Are you guys tying the hud instrumentation to the cockpit model through named textures on the cockpit mesh? Or will the hud instrumentation hover in space?
-
Can't you force it to render in a z-buffer layer on 'top' of everything else, i.e. sandwiched between the layer of the hud and the actual layer that represents the ingame 'scene'?
-
personaly I'd have just cleared the Z buffer _IF_ it became an issue.
-
since the cockpit is being rendering after all other models and explosions and stuff, clearing the zbuffer should cause many problems.
-
*Bump*
Any work done on this yet? Or is it just being done behind closed doors.
-
I geuss this means it's being done behind closed doors. :(
-
Any news on this? Do you still need a test cockpit?
-
Yargh.
-
i've been busy this whole week.
