Independence Day.
-
The Matrix, Star Wars, Starship Troopers and Super Troopers.

My favorite has to be 2001: Space Odyssey. I loved how when thet were in the space, there was no sound, save the frightened breathing of the astronauts.
That, and HAL 9000 scared the crap out of me. Never went near my CPU for quite some time. :nervous:
-
Independence day was crap. AI was crap. The Beauty and the Beast? Whaa....
Oh and Ra may be a "pluchy freak" but Lion King was an excelently executed movie. It's Hamlet with a happy ending.
Fav comedy: The Princess Bride.
Fav drama/action: Not sure about this, but judging by the music (havn't seen the movie) Gladiator (Hans Zimmer OwNs).
-
Oops. Didn't catch that typo...
-
Lord of the Rings. 'Nuff said :D.
-
I was strangely unmoved by LOTR
Only movie I've ever come close to crying in was CTHD. Another excellent movie.
-
actually, too many to name. The funny thing is, I just saw 2001: A Space Oddysey for the first time like a week ago. I mean the full thing, start to finish. That man was not sane. He might have been a genius (or maybe not) but he was not normal, that much is lcear.
hmm, Atlantis and Big Blue...Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barells and Snatch...Gladiator...K2...Trplets of Beliville...White Men Can't Jump (shut up)...many more.

[color=66ff00]Read the book Rictor? It makes a lot more sense and you see that Kubrick was trying to convey imagery more than storyline particulars.
I have too many favourites. Delicatessen and Hero spring to mind as recently ones. I've always had a special place in my heart for the Bill and Ted movies and The Last Starfighter.

Thank you for your replies. I like all the movies you guys like. Please contiune if you wanted....

Kubric was both a genius and off his rocker. His style is magnificent, which is probably why AI was a masterpiece.
-
Good one Raa, I'd forgot that one. Lion King is definately one of the finest movies ever made, even if it is Disney :p
My all time favorite is Hero. Used to be Crouching Tiger, but it was recently supplanted by a narrow margin.
-
Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.
Dark City.
Lost In Translation.

AI was, as far as I know, mostly Speilberg's thing. Its had Speilberg's "spin" to it rather than Kubrick's. And anyway, not to rain on your parade, but I thought it was awful. I mean, c'mon, "please make me a real boy" for like literally 15 minutes straight. Maybe its just the fact that I can't stand that little kid.
No Maeg, I haven't read the book, from what I know it follows the same general premise as the movie, only written by Clarck, right?. I had no real difficulty understanding what he was trying to get across, at least not up until that end bit and perhaps a bit superficially. I think thats its all kind of subjective, but I did ponder it a bit, as well as read some analysis. Its seems to me that it goes from "birth of humanity" to "old age of humanity" and finally death (the white room), and then back to birth in a new and evolved form. The next evolutionary step if you will.

Below
Imposter
The Butterfly Effect

Pitch Black, among others. A Beautiful Mind was impressive, as well. Don't have the time to list up any more, got to catch my flight.

Too many to count, but those that do stand out are
Tarkovsky's Solaris - very ponderous, and thoughtful film, with great actors. Infinitely better than the remake with George Clooney.
Bergman's Saraband - One of the moodiest films I've seen, and very, very sad.
Forman's Amadeus - The music! The actors! The sets! Woof!
-
The Turkish version of Star Wars.
90 minutes of :wtf:
-
I didn't understand Solaris.
It was like "Whee, t3h people, they are not real!", then it was like "T3h people, they are real!" then it was like "OMGOMG! We are not real!.........Oh...no...Wait. We are.....I think."

I disagree. I saw many aspects of Kubric's style in AI. The dissonant, nightmarish music, the overexposed shots for that surreal "flood" effect, and most of all, the illustrations of humanity's darker, more primal side. The "Flesh Fair" is a case in point; it's sort of an external manifestation of the rabid intolerance that is bottled up inside all of us.
But the movie also shows Spielberg at his best. In addition to the Kubric-esque music, there was also the recurring lullaby theme and the the very moving happy ending that serve to counteract Kubric's nightmare with Spielberg's demonstration that there is also beauty in the human experience. I thought it was a fantastic melding of very different styles.
And Haley Joel Osment is a good actor.

I thought the movie sucked more balls than Jenna Jameson.

Apocalypse Now
"This is the end"
Kilgore-"Charlie don't surf"-"Smells like...victory" wonderfully over the top.
Kutrz-"You're a messenger boy sent by grocery clerks to collect a bill"
Yes I like that film a wee bit too much.
-
hey Matthew, when are we going to hit up a few games of SC?
-
Remember the Titans, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings
