Title: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: TrashMan on September 15, 2004, 06:34:30 am
Ye Gods! It is marvelous!

One guy took pictures from the Game Informer magazine and posted links. The graphics is AMAZING and the ammount of detail is astounding...

Too bad the images were removed or I would have posted a link.
Haven't been able to find any other screenshots yet..

I think Ace posted some pictures in the "XBox 2 design leaked" thread, though if someone finds the whole set, (assuming that wasn't it), then please post them (that's allowed on here, right?)

here are the ones posted already

Indeed ES:O looks sweet, and Elder Scroll is Multi platform game.
Wich is good kinda graphics will look same in (PS3, XBOX2 and PC)
there is rumor that ES:O could look little better in consoles infact
But I don't know

Normally I'd say no (the component nature of PCs means constant upgrading of tech is forced by competition), but console architecture is diverging quite a lot now (iquite a lot into multiple parallel processors IIRC), so it's possible the next gen will be quite far in advance (until Pc bottlenecks are released).

will be interesting to see, anyways.

Morowing was allways a geat game - it world was immense and completely free.
However, the stroy implementation laced a bit. I wish it had the party/NPC complexity and depth of Baldur's Gate...That would have made it perfect...
Oh..and better looking elves too...

From what Bethesda has said the two major Morrowind complaints (the implimentation of melee combat and generic NPCs) are being fixed.

Since Tribunal and Bloodmoon did a decent job with having less generic NPCs I think they'll definately pull it off.

NPCs in Oblivion it sounds like have full schedules and such. Of course Morrowind originally was going to have that too until they felt it was too much work for too little gain, now it seems they've realized how much people want it.

Oblivion, from what info there is, occurs in Cyrodiil, the capital of the Empire of Tamriel. (the continent the TES games occur on) There's plenty of outlying countryside outside of the Imperial City and small villages it seems.

The plot has something to do with political turmoil (it's been hinted that something similar to the Great Houses of Morrowind will be in the game) as well as an invasion of the Daedra (demons) from Oblivion.

There's ridable horses in the game too, like in Daggerfall. :)

Anyway despite added NPC depth I doubt there's going to be a party system in the game. The TES games are about you being on your own. They might add some mercenaries like in Tribunal and give them some personality and related quests, but that's just speculation.

There's some info here: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88807

Some interesting points:

NPCs may age, magazine shows two pics of the same NPC but at different age settings. They look different.

Smaller world than Morrowind.

Release date is Winter 2005.

Devs aim to make the game appealing to niche audience and the main gaming audience. Whether that's a good thing is debatable.

Is the release date for Winter 2005 on the Xbox console? or PC?

Or is that for Xbox2? In which case it will have to be released around about the same time yeah?

All to confusing for me, I'll probably wait for some official press releases... :)

Going by Morrowind's release it'd be simultaneous.

Here's some more fuzzy images:

At least....

But then again, we might be wrong. Both Morrowind and Far Cry ran rather good on my machine, and they are both graphicly superb...

For a game that came out a few years ago, it's still pretty:
A Dunmer warrior type just outside of her house in Hla Oad, a small fishing village in the very swampy Bitter Coast.

A shot of the sky above Almalexia's temple in Mournhold at night. But it's not any normal night... the Bloodmoon has risen. Mwuahahaha! :drevil:

My Nord warrior at the Skaal village on Solstheim as a blizzard starts.

My Breton thief in a manor of hers in Balmora.

Manor of hers? You killed him didn't you?!?!?!? :p The Thief's Guild didn't like that did it?

Anyway I hope Oblivion has better... magic effects than Morrowind... with more diverse aplications also :drevil:
