Title: Hypothetically, Stargate:Prometheus
Post by: Black Wolf on September 17, 2004, 11:03:58 am
Would it be any good you reckon? Preferrable, perhaps, to Atlantis as a spinoff? Personally, I think it'd be cool to see a militaryesque ship based scifi - I mean, IMO some the best DS9 episodes were the ones during the dominion war - I wanna see some good solid ship to ship fighting on a regular basis. Having missed Babylon 5 when it screened here, I reckon this'd be pretty decent.

Probrably but the prometheus is such an odd ship.... besides what is the story going to be where as SG1 and Atlantis, which producers say are totally not alike in terms of story and non-repetitious... what missions would u have them partake on?

Too cliched IMO.  The whole boldly-gone-before idea is flogged to death, and the Prom simply isn't strong enough to fight a war on its own.  If there was a fleet of them, you've got potential, but otherwise, I don;t think so.

Have to agree with aldo, Stargate's strength is that it doesn't try to emulate other tried and tested formulae.

That and it's damn funny. :D

The Prometheus bridge crew would die in the first episode due to the 'stupid-bridge-with-windows-sticking-20 meters-above-the-main-hull'. It's like one huge bull's eye for enemies...

:p

I think Stargate: Daedalus would be better.

Title: not as good as Atlantis

Right now they are in fresh original territory, besides I honestly think the Prometheus is one ugly pile of poo!

I saw a ship on sci-fi meshes.com and also featured in the art thread of spaceballtes.com bout 6 months ago that had me screaming PROMETHEUS !!! it was freaking awesome...

I find the whole concept of the Prometheuss worse then that of the Galaxy class starship from ST :p t least they have the sense to build their bridge *inside* the ship and use a viewscreen instead of windows :doubt:

Pfff. They said in Lost City when the shields fell that "One more hit and we're ****ed". So it doesn't really matter if the hull has windows or not, c'z a single shot from a Hatak would cleave it open.

were is the bridge on the prom exactly?

and the thinking probly was, "if our sheilds go down we'll be vaporised in one hit anyway"

You know, I always wondered why all these big spaceships had the bridge sitting nice and high where it could be blasted off with ease. The only real exception to this is the Omega and Nova from B5, no visible bridge is present on the outside.

Aww cool. Judging from the comments made in Endgame it looks like the little grey guys are being mucho-generous with the advanced tech.

Asgard transporters, hyperdrive, shields, weapons.

The Prometheus (and Daedalus) are gonna kick so much goddamn ass it won't even be funny.

It'll be like:
<Prom> Surrender, Goa'uld *****.
<Hatak> **** you.
* Prom *****-slaps Hatak
<Hatak> ARGH! My ****in' shields!
** Daedalus enters #sg-universe
<Prom> Mwuahaha. Now you're boned.
* Prom and Daedalus slap Hatak around a bit
** Hatak has quit (Quit: Connection reset by peer)

actually the enterprise's bridge is at the very top of the ship. one shot away from death. besides in trek 6 one photon torpedo went right through the saucer of enteprise a. trek depends too much on shields. as for omega and nova my guess would be the bridge is somewhere in the rotating ship section as they seem to have gravity. id figure the rest of the ship is uninhabited cept the fighter bay. i like b5 ships because they thought about what a combat space ship would look like and how it would function, instead of just making something that looks cool.
