Title: Yes! Yes! Yes! *dances*
Post by: Martinus on September 17, 2004, 12:20:20 pm
[color=66ff00]I just read this:

AP: After "Episode III," will you ever revisit "Star Wars"?

Lucas: Ultimately, I'm going to probably move it into television and let other people take it. I'm sort of preserving the feature film part for what has happened and never go there again, but I can go off into various offshoots and things. You know, I've got offshoot novels, I've got offshoot comics. So it's very easy to say, "Well, OK, that's that genre, and I'll find a really talented person to take it and create it." Just like the comic books and the novels are somebody else's way of doing it. I don't mind that. Some of it might turn out to be pretty good. If I get the right people involved, it could be interesting.

It's from here: Full interview. (http://movies.yahoo.com/news/ap/20040915/109528362000.html)

Note the bit I've underlined, Starwars might just have a bright future. *glee*

[color=66ff00]Can't help it to be honest, these were my favourite movies until the prequels, I was effectively brought up on them and thus I consider them important.

If you've read any of the expanded universe books you'd see that SW has so much potential for interesting and appealling storytelling.

Hey, we can see the return of such classic Star Wars TV series as Ewoks and Droids!

I can't wait for the 2007 Star Wars Holiday Special!

JMS: Pending contractual negotiations and formal pickup by the networks involved, I've been offered two different series, so we'll see which goes first. They could both be very cool to work on, but one of them could be insanely successful. I should know more about this situation in late October. (Neither is Trek-related, just to nip any potential rumors in the bud.)

Lucas: Same as what Maeglamer quoted above.

Connection? Maybe.

(JMS = J. Michael Straczynski, creator of Babylon 5 and Jeremiah.)

Mmmm, JMS needs to get back to B5, that show utterly rocks. Even after aging for 10 or so years.

He is getting back to B5. You never heard of the upcoming feature film?

After that, get lucas to fund the SW series, hire JMS as exec. producer, and watch how cheesecakes can be made out of horse poo.

I wouldn't imagine a horse poo cheescake would be very tasty, even with the added cheese and biscuit.

If done right, that would be just about the best thing that has happened to scifi for a long, long time

A 30-40 episode series of the X-Wing novels would be awesome.

^ exactly what I was going to say
more people need to know about Wedge and Corran, the Lusankya etc. Man, those books were more like star wars than the prequels are.

Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command remade as Eps. VII-IX. Soul-owning.

[color=66ff00]That was one of the most disappointing parts of an otherwise good game; Jedi knight 2's nohgri were man sized and poor fighters.

Oh and you forgot to mention I Jedi which is in my opinion the best of the lot.

I want a documentary that analyzes the inner metaphors of Star Wars that all point to an allegory for sexual turmoil. Highlights would include the lightsaber as a phallic symbol, Luke's Oedipus complex, C3P0's struggle with his homosexuality, and Han Solo's obvious use of large weaponry to compensate for his insecurity with his penis size.

I don't have to. Just look at the size of that pistol he carries around, tryin' to be all manly with a leather holster and everything. And look at the way he had to augment his ship. He's gotta be compensating for something.

If you're looking for more good Starwars, there are plenty of books out there.  Just make sure of one thing before you read the book:  It has to say either Zahn or Stackpole on the cover.

They are the only 2 good authors to write in the SW universe that actually stuck to the feel of the 3 good SW movies.

Post by: NGTM-1R on September 20, 2004, 03:01:54 pm
Zahn, Stackpole, or Aaron Allston (I think that's his name.) Gotta give the Wraith Squadron books their due.
Title: Yes! Yes! Yes! *dances*
Post by: Vaelinx on September 20, 2004, 03:43:12 pm
Yeah, I haven't read Aaron Allston's books, but Stackpole said he was OK with him continuing the series so I assume he's cool.

To be fair, there are alot of decent SW books.  It's just those two authors stand out as the best in my mind.  Books like The Han Solo Trilogy I like.  And the short story compilations will usually have somethign you like in there.

I really don't like Kevin Anderson.  I find his characters flat and uninteresting, his plots are both unoriginal and uninspired, and I really don't like his treatment of the existing characters and the universe.

Yeah, I agree Stakpole and Zahn are great writers and I liked the Wraith squadron books alot
