Title: Best Movie Soundtracks
Post by: Corsair on September 25, 2004, 03:56:13 pm
Personally, my favorites are the LOTR trilogy, Saving Private Ryan, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero, Pirates of the Caribbean, the theme from Finding Nemo, the theme from Shawshank Redemption, and the theme from Chariots of Fire.

I'm going through a soundtrack phase right now... dunno why but I just think they're really cool.

Hmm. I got so many. Pritty much anything John Williams and Hanz Zimmer. Harry Gregson Williams is good. James Newton Howard does really good stuff. Michael Kamen did great stuff.

Oops, went a bit too vague. Well lets see,

Star Wars has great stuff. LOTR is beautiful, Godzilla(the american remake one) by David Arnold is good, and I mean the score. Independence day, Stargate movie. Geex, I just got them all and they're all good.

yep. that's the best non-lyrical score from the movie. the best lyrical one is "eloi". It conveys huge emotion without even having to understand the eloi language.

The Last of the Mohecans and Braveheart were both pretty good.

LotR.
And some others that aren't coming to me now. I know there are more, though...

Star Wars (especially The Empire Strikes Back)
Gladiator
Armageddon (Complete score includes great cues)
Danny Elfman scores
The Matrix, all of them. If you have heard the Reloaded and Revolutions expanded promo scores, which includes only Don Davis' music then you know what I mean.
Howard Shores Lord of The Rings trilogy

You are thinking of the classical score and not the 'soundtrack' which is made up of things like Leaving on a Jet Plane and Don't Wanna Miss a Thing aren't you?

I spent two years trying to find the actual score and when I did I wasn't disappointed. The Launch is the best piece on there!

I'm not a huge fan of Aerosmith. As for Leaving on a Jet Plane, it is one of my favorites and was by far the best song on there.

The original score though... meh.

So you were thinking of the 'soundtrack' rather than the score then. :) I got the clue when you referred to 'songs.'

I did mean the score. Like I said, the songs on the soundtrack are okay... but I don't like the classical score.

The LOTR soundtrack has been mentioned too few times.

Also, most of Hans Zimmer's creation, and everything compiled by Quentin Tarantino.

The funny thing about the Media Ventures scores...(the scores where Hans Zimmer appears as composer or producer)...they are never by one composer alone.

Armageddon was done by Travin and Gregson-Williams...Gladiator by Zimmer, Badelt and Shirley Walker...and POTC had around 7 composers, supervised by Badelt...

...I really think, the MV scores are pretty good...but infact, many kinda sound the same. Search for real differences between Gladiator and Pirates Of The Carribean.
...by the way...most of the score of The Rock was NOT composed by Hans Zimmer...he just did two themes!

Well...my favs...

Everything from Bill Brown
Finding Nemo
Shrek
Spider-Man (2) (when he swings through NY for the first time in 1st Person, it's just ....woah...and the whole train sequence in part 2...well, that's art! :D)
