Need to put in some engine pods (probably above the rear shoulders) and an extra special missile turret ontop.
Hopefully some FRED trickery will allow the "claws" to open and close when appropiate.
Based on a ship from one of Alod's modeldumps.

Not bad at all, I like how it just looks like a bigger Poseidon, Good work:nod:
-
I love the claws! Absolutely love them!
But this isn't the Poseidon. It'd have to be a Mk II. No biggy, though. :)
-
Oooh nice.
Magatsu, yer on a role. First, the you made for me, then the bizzare Orion, then this.
A rolling stone gathers no weasels. Remember that, remember that.
;)
-
It looks like a monkey hugging a tree...
-
I disagree... it looks more like a sloth.
-
Woah, woah. Before we diss it, let us wait for Magatsu1 to actually texture it.
Give em' a chance, you fools! I'll crush you! CRUSH!
*Deploys sinister cat army
-
Your right, it does look like a sloth.
-
A sloth with some killer cool feet.
-
I want to see the top before I make up my mind. But from what I can see, it looks promising.
-
Decrease the size of the cargo container and give it a really weird dockpath and it might work, but I don;t think this'll move too well when you tell it to dock with anything.
Cool feet though.
-
Never diss a giant sloth that has a missile launcher on it's back.
:D
Looks nifty, 'tho for some bizzare reason I get Frontier: Elite2 flashbacks when I look at it :P
-
for mee it looks like dog without tail:wtf:
magatsu ...please change grabing arms
-

doesn't take tile textures very well and I've never done a texture map so I'm in a bit of a bind at the mo.:doubt:
-
You need to close the seem from the mirror a bit better.
And UVMapping isn't nearly as hard as it is boring.
-
ooh, from the top it looks almost Shivan (FS1 style.)
-
Okay that DEFINITELY looks like a sloth.
-
Ship looks great, only the arms look...well..too human/animal like
First, the claws will nnot be able to open/close so you can just as well drop them.
Second..change the holding arms.
If you ask me, one pair of arms (front) in an L shape (facing the rear) should do the trick..
-
I thought FRED Open's lock/rotate subsystem could make thew clamps do their thang.
Edit: hm, they would haved to rotate in opposite directions so you may be right.:doubt:

How do plan on texturing it?

Since it's so sloth-like (read: animal-like), why is it Terran and not Vasudan?
Looks great so far, btw... done with the Victor, on to the next, eh Magatsu? :D

If you make it so that the dockpoint doesn't actually touch the skin of the ship but is instead between the claws several meters back you might be able to gt this thing to dock properly.

My first thought on the top shot is "King Kong meets Frog," which isn't exactly what you're going for I'd imagine.
The sloth likeness is really a bit much. I love the concept, but I'm not sure how well it'll do in practice. It needs more reference to the original Poseidon I think. A more defined "head," fatter arms, a more defined (and less leg-like) engine assembly. As it stands, the skinny arms and little claws look too animal-like without getting enough practical function out of them. The Poseidon, for example has some kind of (magnetic?) locking mechanism on the ends of its arms, which lock in with the sides of the contianer that it picks up. Something like that would make this thing look much better. Save the claws for manipulator arms on a drone of some kind; they're pretty good but completely out of place on a freighter.
-
I don't like the front much (too....diagonal, er, what I mean is that it's undetailed and I'd prefer something distinct), and I'd advice enlarging the lower 'claws' to have a wider base, but pretty neat.

(Parody mode on)...
"The Sloth" is a mis-nomer... The design itself was NOT intended to represent the Earth animal, it was merely an unforseen effect. In actuality it was supposed to emulate a Vasudan design to enable the Nightmares to secretly infiltrate GTVA space as cargo merchants. With the defeat of their ex-minions (the Shivans) The Nightmares have decided to do some intel recon before moving against the Vasudan and Terran threats. "The Sloth" is just one of MANY disguised vehicles they plan on seeding into key systems as a sort of "5th Column" or "Trojan Sloth- er HORSE!" Once the invasion signal has been given and the main fleet begins it's assualt on a particular system, those pre-seeded units will strike in concert, thus insuing sabotage, distraction, and utter chaos!
(Parody mode off)...
Looks like an Aldo type of design to me, that's why I thought of the Nightmares... (fromhis model dumps, or was that Raven?)
-
Nope Nightmare is Recip. stuff.....so Aldo, unless Raven was there n i didnt know it:o
-
Doesn't look nightmarish to me... by either meaning of that statement.

You have no idea....:D
I actually thought it looked like a Gorilla...

I've never publicly released any complete Nightmare model (and that means completed mesh), BTW.
The front of that hauler does slightly resemble that of the Njord and also the Holler, I believe. And maybe one of the older Svalin dropship/transports, albeit i'm not sure if I dumped or just deleted those.
-
The Reci download with them was one of the first mods I got when I came here so if you took it down I didn't realize some people wouldn't remember them (Jug, battleship/destroyer,carrier, and fighter).. That was almost 3 years ago... I don't remember HALF the stuff I dl'ed from HLP, I'm always rediscovering something on my comp as I am not organized for pure FS2 stuff, I've drifted into the realm of the crossovers (and there's no comming back baby!). :D

no, I just don't consider those as being Nightmares, because the concept & design changed so much.

Dropship from one of your dumps.
I actually really like the Dropship. Might do somethin' else if/when I get tired of this one.
Actually, I think I am already..

Hey, Aldo, I still have most of the new gen Reci mods floating around my comp, do you mind if I keep them, I always thought they were rather cool.

Yeah, but I did give someone (forget who) exclusive use of them when Reci went down, so I'd prefer it if you didn't show any screens or whatnot for a while.
-
Sure. :D
-
Shape is very nice. I'm waiting for release. :)
