Title: Freespace FTP Server
Post by: MatthewPapa on September 27, 2004, 07:48:43 pm
After lots of hard work and planning I have finally finished setting up my Freespace FTP Server. Check it out here (//ftp://freespaceserver.cjb.net)

NOTE: IT IS ALWAYS WORKS THROUGH THE CLIENT BUT IS VERY UNRELIABLE VIA BROWSER.

You can access the server through your FTP client: (its better this way than your browser)

Hostname: freepaceserver.cjb.net  (put this address in you client for host address)
user: anonymous
No Password

I would appreciate lots of feedback on this (such as the bandwidth, if it works or not for you etc). I currently have all of the SCP stuff, regular VP files, the VW archives files, campaigns and lots of other neat stuff. I urge you check it out. Max users is currently set to 15. If anybody would like anything mirrored off of this server please LET ME KNOW! If I have anybody's campaign already on the server that they would like taken off also let me know. PLEASE DO NOT HACK ME!!! I think the sever is pretty secure but dont even try. I have spent a large amount of my time and money on this server and would not appreciate it if you screwed it up
Please enjoy.

EDIT: Added DNS

Freespace FTP Server Update…….
Again you may access the server via Explorer or FireFox now (yes, I believe I fixed the bug) at //ftp://freespaceserver.cjb.net

Or through your FTP client
Username: Anonymous
Hostname: freespaceserver.cjb.net
No Password

Things currently stored on the server:
Source Code Project enhancements
90% of major campaigns finished
75% of all major MODS
Freespace 2 Custences
Freespace 2 Music
Freespace 2 ISO(s)
Tie Fighter ISO
Common VP Files
VW Archives Files
Robotech Episodes
X2-the threat
etc. etc. etc.

Soon to come:
Freespace 1 ISO's
Freespace 1 VP's
Completion of Campaigns database
Completion of Mods Database
Freespace 1 Music (ohhh yea)
Mission Database
Any suggestions?????

If you have any suggestions or would like to have web space here let me know please. I will be happy to provide space to anyone who is currently working on a Freespace project and needs a central place to store files.

I'll answer this perfectly valid question.

FTP stands for "File Transfer Protocal." An FTP server is a place where you can transfer files, put simply.

Ohhh sorry, I thought you were trying to make fun of me. FTP in short is a fast way to transfer files or folders over the WWW. File Transfer Protocol is what it stands for. By the way, i just finished putting up a CD image for TIE Fighter. I got robotech episodes too.

That's what I just said...ah...not worth arguing over.

Thanks, MathewPapa! This is kinda cool.

Currently having trouble accessing it, though.

You need a program like Clone CD or NERO to burn the ISO images. I have provided the trial version of clonecd on the site. Just look for it.

X2 or X2- The threat is a Space RPG.
ALSO, new user added. You should be able to log on under:
USER: Freespace
PASS: 12345

or

USER: Freespace1
PASS:12345

If anyone has any problems let me know so I can kill them tonight.

Good FTP client (in other words program used to access the FTP server) is FTPX. Go to http://www.FTPX.com
All you have to do is enter the IP address and user name and you are in. Just drag and drop from there.

Does it do this during your download? If you arent already, try using a ftp program. The browser based one is very unreliable.

Im gonna take it off soon, if you want it get it while you can. My basic purpose is to get more people around here who have played that game because its a pretty tight game.

Just try again in like a minute. There are like 12 people on right now. BTW, the system specs of the server are:

342 MHz AMD K-6
512 Ram
60 GIG HDD
2 Network Adapters

Shes a rusty old bucket but she gets the job done.
