mmm?
-
You made a thread and forgot the contents.
-
I think that is the content.
-
He has five minutes to post it, or else I'm exercising my divine powers.
-
Bigotry ends with humanity. Luckily I'm working on a cure for that problem.
-
It ends when this thread does.
-
Shrike, what happened to your Avatar? That's a little disturbing.
-
the content is the question, the question is the title
-
But what's it in reference to?
Kazan, have you forgotten how you got your current title?
-
bigotry in general - want specifics? bigotry against homosexuals, bigotry against other races, bigotry against other countries, bigotry between different religions
when does it end?
--------------------
i got my current title by arguing a lot - against people who didn't understand the argument, or wouldn't listen to it
-
I agree. It's not just in the world, but right here at HLP. THere are quite a few people here and elsewhere that are just a little too big headed to know when to stop.

Isn't it great? :D

It's just that you're talking about such a wide range of human irrationality. When will it end? Only after the apocalipse. As a species we are intolerant, by our very nature, of others who are by perception or reality different from us. That's not to say that an individual can put that behind him and actually break out from those tendencies. Most humans can and probably never will be able to break through that boundary.
And you got your title, if memory serves, for posting a bunch of really off-the-wall topics, not because they were hard to understand or anything, but simply because there was no apparent motivation for bringing up the subjects in the first place. Much like this thread.
-
Ah, but simply by posting a question like 'When does the Bigotry end?' could be defined as pre-judgement and bigotry by itself ;)
Bigotry, Greed, Hatred, Fear are all vital to our survival, we may dislike them, but it is them and nothing else that has carried us this far. The thing is that we are at a stage where the strong-willed among us can choose to control those emotions, rather than let those emotions control them.
-
Bigotry ends when the following are dealt with harshly:
1. Horseradish
2. Mel Gibson movies
3. Pineapple on pizza
4. SUVs
5. People who brag about how they figured out The Sixth Sense twenty minutes into the movie.
-
Technically it doesn't, until a higher rate of consciousness in the human mind is achieved.
In short?
Not in our lifetime.
-
Never.

Bloody hell do I agree with you on those two.

Effectively, that's the same answer, as if I said "Tommorow".
Right?
-
Bigotry will truly end when all races, genders, and ideals merge into something more common and uniform. As long as we are able to recognize anything as "different than" with an attitude of trying to perceive 'it' as a threat or inferior bigotry will continue.
I'm surprised the started of this thread posted this, especially in light of his violent and haughty attitude twords the followers of any spiritual branch out there. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
no pun intended.
-
It's one thing to have a founded opinion on facts, and to not have one.
Kazan has a pretty solid case against the religious people. I'm quite sure he doesn't "hate" people because they are following religions, however I'm quite sure he resents them for doing so (when it comes to that aspect in their lives).
Apples and Oranges, etcetera.

when humanity dies out or is lobotomised.
Fear, hate, prejudice, whatever - it's just a dark side of our psyche, the opposite of all the positive & good things about. We can't pick and choose what we feel, or why we feel it.
Yeah, you can remove a lot of it - better teaching, more cultural intermixing, etc. But you can't eradicate it, because it's part of humanity.
(Um, Kaz - shouldn't you just make it 'bigotry against religions'? Because its evident that you don't have to subscribe to a particular faith to be bigoted against another, you can see that all the time.)
-
Unsolved diferences continue to clash,
Unprovoked hate looses it's wings,
Spawning the entire world with fire,
Turning everything to ash,
Whatever comes, whatever brings,
Can only end at the pyre.
Funny... wrote this a couple of days ago... :nervous:
-
i would remind ionia that while i denounce religions i do not "hate" their members, unless those members are actively assaulting the rights of others
furthermore I do not descriminate against members of the religions - as HotSnoj can testify to

I didn't say that you (if you're referring to my prev. post) did, just that people do and it's always good to make sure these people are held in equal contempt to other bigots.
And, knowing your opinions, people could take that phrase as a little dig at religion in general, and thus whine and...well, we all know where those discussions go (http://www.dulas.net/images/signs/roundabout.gif)
:)
-
this is why i became a misanthropist-nihilist.
-
Hey pineapple on pizza is good!
Oh, and bigotry ends...well...never. Not from lack of trying to end it though...
-
Now let's all get drunk and play ping pong!
-
Bigotry ends when time itself ceases to exist. You cannot vanquish bigotry, although you can limit and reduce it. Much like sales tax ;)
-
Bigotry stops when people stop worrying about meaningless problems and stuff.
Like the gender problem, or the race problem, or the religion problem, or the bigotry problem :)
I mean, just relax and accept things as they are. If you don't like something, move away... don't go searching for problems and trouble.
-
Alright, just the ping pong?

I agree. Sadly, it doesn't work that way. :sigh:
-
Bigotry says when I say so.
So far, no one has given me a good enough reason, so I'm inclined to let it go on. Same with war, poverty and Britney Speers.

He said it alright.

Sadly, Kazan, as you might find out sooner or later, bigotry will never end as long as there are flawed human beings in the world, and that means all of us are bigots.
Human emotion is a complicated matrix, and when we get aggrivated or frustrated, the anger is vented out on blaming someone else more easily than on other things. As long as there are people who are different than we are, having different views, and as long as we are still unperfect and the human beings we are, there will always be bigotry. The only possible way to eliminate it is to make everyone think as one giant computer and have everyone believe the same thing, which I would fight to protect our individuality as a species.
Trust me, bigotry is not going to end, so dont try and make it end. You can soften it up by making people realize what they do to others, but dont expect it to go away. Everyone has done it, everyone WILL do it, everyone in some part of the world is doing it now.
-
I think the question here is this: Do we believe it is worth it to fight the unwinnable?
I don't know what I believe.

Kazan: Not entirely. It is by human nature to become frustraited towards someone at some time, and therefor even if you dont like it, you might be doing it without realizing it. I know that I've probably done it before, you have, everyone else has, and there is no real way to make the populace of the world cease being bigots.

No, but I do know how hard it is to get drunk and play hockey. It actually gets a bit easier once you get a bit of a buzz on, but after that, dont expect to move forward at all, unless you crawl.
-
Though I never personally partook (being the goalie and all) I know several of my teammates would get at least slightly tipsy before playing most games last season (well, two seasons ago now :(). We won the grand final, so it can't have been too bad. :D

Drunken swimming is awesome.
-
Aside from the drowning I imagine it'd be just grand.
