No Online Mode with Grand Turismo 4???? Can someone please comfirm this?
I would, but I am at work and most "game" internet sites are blocked.
-
This is sad, but true
-
They said theyre planning the online component for a game due out in 2005. (gamespot.com)
-
@#$@#$ that stinks. I never got GT3 because it did not have online play. Now I got to do the same thing with GT4?
At least I can race nascar 2005 online..... :D

Meh. Buy a game like TOCA2 or Burnout, where the makers aren't so interested in car-porn that they actually add in damage rather than a stupid-arsed screenshot mode. I mean, what was GT's original selling point anyways? Lifelike replays? (who gives a **** about those and why, I don't know)

I don't understand when people call GT a true driving sim, it's nothing of the sort. Any game where you can hold onto the accelerate button and win races without having to turn very much is not a sim.
-
I understand where you are going with that, but the last time I tried not turning I did not win....

GT3 was friggin' boring. Each race was like 30 laps and took 45 minutes. Who could be arsed with that ?

they can't add damages because of they use real car names that are licenced that prevents it

That's no excuse. If I want a car advert, I'll watch one on the telly.

hmmm, I very much doubt if the PS could even draw acurate, real time damage anyway. The GT engine has pop-up for christ's sake.
Gimme PGR2 anyday. Or Burnout.

Of course it can. It's been done on several games IIRC - TOCA2 and its predecessors had realistic damage, GTA:SA is supposed to have proper car deformation (I think), there was something like Test Drive with it. Hell, the PS1 did damage - or at least close enough to it - in the first Destruction Derby. and burnout PS2 as well, of course.
Of course, now you don't even have to drive (http://gamesradar.msn.co.uk/news/default.asp?pagetypeid=2&articleid=32097&subsectionid=1585)

If anyone's ever heard of Demolition Racer for PS1 (an incredibly fun game, BTW :D), it also featured real-time damage.

GT as a series really bugs me, it's this reputation it has as "THE driving simulator" but it's not a simulator, it's a bloody beefed up arcade racer, true sims make it difficult to even accelerate without traction control, it's too clinical, too cut and dry and just seems like a case of "lets throw as many cars in that handle the same as possible"
I just don't like the hype they have considering they aren't anything special.
