This is the sound of moths flying out of my wallet, forever empty having to buy all the crap needed to enjoy these things.

don't worry, you won't need it until at least 2006, and by then the "standard" level of PC fanboy tech ought to be able to handle it. I reckon it won't be any more demanding then than Doom 3 is now, which addmitedly is quite a bit, but not unreasonably so.

Nice pics indeed, the only problem for me is that I don't have a computer that would support this. :(

Okay, so it's video card time again.  I'm punching along on an Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 256MB.  Not a bad card, but I"m a whore for detail.  Here's the choice:

Nvidia GeForce Fx 6800 Ultra blah blah
Radeon 9800

Suggestions?  Been trying to find some good side-by-side compares between the two.

The objective: Be able to run things like Doom 3 and Thief 3 at 1024X768 in full detail at perfect framerate.

If you are serious about spending the money, get the Nvidia, I'm currently on a 9800 pro and I can't fault the thing but they will start getting a little long in the tooth soon and I'm already eyeing my next upgrade up.

I think this time though I may keep this system and go the whole hog and get an entirely new (custom built of course) rig. Hmmm, money though, is an issue.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time reconciling spending 500 + dollars (US) on a video card, and that's used.

No such thing as a FX 6800.  nVidia dropped the FX moniker since the FX series was so piss poor.

Nagging aside, what kind of comparison is this?  A previous generation card versus a new-generation card?

If you don't want to spend a ton of money, then 6600GT.
