The EA are just pyschopaths. Simple, scary, gets the job done.

At the start of the campaign, who has the best fleet, the EA or the GTVA?
Title: Question about the story
Post by: Zarax on October 07, 2004, 01:10:52 am
GTVA, except for the Nemsis...
EA had the starting advantage because GTVA had it's fleet scattered in 26 systems...
Title: Question about the story
Post by: Woomeister on October 07, 2004, 04:48:53 am
The EA has a smaller fleet overall. The Nemesis is probably outmatched by the Solaris, but the Nemesis has been used in battle since before the EA war, so its crew are more experienced.

The EA didn't start the war because they are evil, or to take control of the GTVA. The GTVA didn't expect a conflict though, so they didn't have good enough defences for the Sol gate.

Of course the EA have the Icanus as well. :)

Title: Question about the story
Post by: Woomeister on November 02, 2004, 05:17:38 pm
Well I finnished the new Atlantis station, and got a new EA freighter converted, but then I stopped on the pof data for it...

Oh and I compiled a new Inferno build to test out a few new changes we wanted to make.

Not much considering what I used to get done in a week.

I kind of needed the forums for the rest of the stuff...

Hmm...You guys are still using the Atlantis?

Nope I made a new one just before the downtime. It took me a while to fix some texture errors due to its size.

No I was texturing it at that time so didn't put any pics up.

Why EA texturing always remind me of 80's building architecture?
BTW, nice stuff, it captures a cool industrial feeling.

Bigger than the Icanus.

Can we get another picture?  I can't make out too much in the one you posted, Woomeister.  It all runs together.

What kind of a performance hit does that thing have on your system?
Title: Question about the story

the texturing isn't that good, IMO, but I'm a sucker for really big stations.

If the texturing were better, my graphics card would probably blow up.

No way, we haven't even decided where we're going to use that yet... and if we do it'll just be a prop or a juicy target for something big!

Well it has to be heavily tiled otherwise it looks terrible closeup, and it won't be seen from too a great a distance.

I had to stick with the EA maps too which don't really work on things this big.

Performance varies. with the planet, station and Icanus (18k polygons total) I get around 30fps. Lowest I got was 15 with the Nemesis, Icanus and several other destroyers in the docks too. You can see some fps counts in the shots.

It most likely will be used since it's better than the current Icanus dock, however there probably won't be missions that use its other features such as the interior or the destroyer docks.

It has no debris like the first one so it won't be blown up :p

So, what stations do the Shivans possess? Is it still the SI Arachnas, SI Ishana, and SI Hara?
Title: Question about the story
Post by: Woomeister on November 05, 2004, 02:23:43 pm
That's all they need, you won't be hanging around in Shivan infested territory to find any other stations :D

What is your FPS count with nothing on the screen (usually)?

120 usually 90-120 sometimes with nebulas.

That is one hell of a performance hit.

Not as bad as some ships we have with 14+ maps...

What happens if you blow up something that doesn't have debris?
Title: Question about the story
Post by: Woomeister on November 09, 2004, 05:54:14 am
It vanishes, which for a 40km station would look very stuipid.

I didn't make debris for it on purpose since the explosion from this thing would take out everything in the area.
Title: Question about the story
Post by: T-Man on November 28, 2004, 08:42:47 am
That looks amazing, you should be really proud Woo. I used to dream of stations like that being in FS, but decided that they would crash the engine. The inside pic reminds me of a starbase on Star Trek.

I must be said that the grey hull texturing looks really repetitive, but i suppose it can't be helped.
Title: Question about the story
Post by: Woomeister on November 28, 2004, 08:50:04 am
The more repeats the better it looks up close, but the worse it looks from afar, since it'll mostly be used up close, it needed a lot of repeats.

Since it's 40km long it really needs a lot more detail and a lot more maps, but since the HTL system wouldn't like that I kept it at a reasonable amount.
Title: Question about the story
Post by: Kosh on November 29, 2004, 03:41:22 am
Is that station actually going to be used in a mission (as in, we get to see it up close)?
Title: Question about the story
Post by: Woomeister on November 29, 2004, 03:58:37 am
Dunno, it was just a thing I've been meaning to do more about a year :D
Title: Question about the story
Post by: T-Man on November 29, 2004, 05:34:20 am
Probably be a "Scan subsystems" mission. No way you could do a "protection" mission with it...unless you had a VERY fast fighter
Title: Question about the story
Post by: Woomeister on November 29, 2004, 05:38:35 am
If it was used in mission, the station would be mostly ignored, you'd probably be concentrating on the Icanus.
Title: Question about the story

Yeah, but on most people's systems that would turn INF into a slideshow.
Title: Question about the story

Because of the polycount? we have bigger models for polycount than that and they don't cause any problems. Even when there's a few of them on screen.

You just implied earlier that you get a massive performance hit when that thing is on screen.

EDIT: I'm also assuming you have a good computer.
