Title: Started playing, need help
Post by: Corsair on October 04, 2004, 03:08:17 pm
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v366/stupid_american/Randomness/screen00.jpg)

I played the first mission, then found that I couldn't jump out. I played closed the program, restarted, and tried again. Same thing happened. Apparently, I'm having an "engine failure"? What the hell?

I'm running FSO 3.6...

Either play on a difficulty higher than Very Easy, or get a more up to date exe.

You won't be able to pass mission 8 using a standard SCP exe right now as well.

How do I fix the conflict with SCP?

Get the Inferno build in the recent builds section of the SCP forum. Or use retail.

Oh, and I love that engine bug. :D

I learned to play Medium quiet well. Some prefer very easy, though, but Easy isn't much different.

Nah we might need very easy for R2. It's a lot harder than it was before.

You should still fix it. Might scare new players away. HLP needs new players.

The warpout is fixed, just not in the basic 3.6 version.

You might want to practice a bit then. M13 requires a very good aim :D

I wish I was able to get that firemod thing working, grr

To be fair though on easy it's still pretty easy - unless you're in a light fighter with paper thin shields... the jump from easy to medium is a pretty large one, though.

Unless you totally suck :D

It wasn't too hard to get used too. I don't get owned by a wing of claymores when flying the Herc 3 anymore. Only the tougher Shivan fighters can be a problem sometimes (as they should be)

Well easy is supposed to stay easy, medium now plays more like Insane :D

Not a good idea IMHO.  There needs to be a level between easy and insane, and Medium is it.  Challenging, but not frustrating.  If there's too much of a gap, change the AI tables.

There's a big difference between the ai at those difficulties. We've increased to fire rate from medium onwards so that it isn't scaled down. So the fire rate is what the table says it is. On easy and very easy it is still reduced, but not by as much.

I use the keyboard and I aim fine. I used the keyboard since FS1, even tho I got it free with a joystick lol. Its natural to me now to use the numpad (right hand) to navigate and the left hand for everything else.

Medium is nowhere near insane - just the difficulty divide has grown a bit - i.e. the enemy AI flies better in combat and fires its primaries A LOT faster...

The AI level hasn't really changed, it's the fire rate that has. They fire much faster so you take more damage than normal if your on lower difficulties (since insane hasn't changed)
However friendly ships have their proper fire rates and so are still faster than the enemy ships so if you work a bit with the friendly ai ships on your side (and not run off solo trying to kill everything) you'll be fine.

Cruisers are you best friend for this :)

Just to clarify the AI combat ability hasn't changed, but it has always been better at medium than easy. The fire rate change compounds this, that's what I meant :)

Cruisers are an absolute nightmare to go up against for anything but a heavy fighter or bomber wing. Fortunately the Shivan cruisers are a fair bit easier to kill and are nowhere near as ferocious as Terran/Vasudan/EA ones...

I must confess i've never gone above very easy on a campaign (i am ashamed :o ). I've tried medium one or two times, but i totally sucked :( . Maybe i should train a little harder.

I'm back by the way :D. Sorry for the long dissaperance.

Try Easy.  It's between Very Easy and Medium. :)
