Though HLP was down for a rather long tome, we haven't been lazy. :)

Bhantkara-Class Carrier
Hello folks,
since this forum lacks new goodies, and you all get enough fighters in the last few weeks, I thought it is about time to show of some capships again.
Lynx has remodelled the bhantkara-class carrier, and he did a damn good job with it. Enclosed the tech-description, and some nice renders (but it is exactly what you will see ingame in WC-Saga. It has also some (canon) modifications, so if there are still people out who think "Give me a Longbow and I will toaste it !", you can forget it this time !

The Kilrathi's newest fleet carrier, the Bhantkara-class's superior naval design has totally replaced the Snakier II-class on the front-lines. Intelligence has determined that they carry over 120 fighters, bombers, and support craft in their standard eight-ship squadrons. Intel also estimates that these heavy carriers sacrificed symmetry for more efficient design, eliminating non-combatant (hence redundant) systems and increasing the carrying capacity of the ship. Even though they are the Kilrathi's newest carriers, Intel has determined that the design is still inferior to their Terran counterparts. Bhantkara-class carriers tend to be less shielded and protected then our own Lexington-class and Concordia-class carriers, and their lack of redundant systems make them more susceptible to severe damage levels. But the fact that the Kilrathi has 20+ fleet carriers to our own 10+ often tilts the odds heavily.

like the textureing, think the geometry could use some greebleing
-
Greebleing...didn't we had this discussion some time ago about the Hellcat?
-
I like the texturing also . . . is that a hangar on the butt there? (hangar on both ends??)
-
Actually it is a detailled fly-through hangar like on the most WC-carriers (good for shooting down parked fighters :D )
-
The model has enough details IMO, it has about 3600 triangles I think, and it has some details on the inside too(Yes Akalabeth Angel there are openings on both ends - that's a flythrough hangar). and in some missions there are are more of them and every time it's escorted by a battle group, So performance would be an issue too. And it's not even 1000 m long so I think it's detailed enough. Though it would be cool to use that tech greebling thingy you showed in a video some time ago(you know that one with the rotating Arcadia, where the flat section had semitransparent layers so that it look like it was full of cables, struts and stuff).
-
I am quite happy that we don't have these very vounurable parts like open internal structurs...look at the Behemoth how quickly it got blown up.
-
greebleing on capships is diferent from greebleing on fighters,
I honestly don't have a feel for how things in this unuverse are suposed to look, so you can ignore me. :)
-
Well Lynx just made the suggestion to post some original WC trailer...maybe that gives you a better feeling ^_^
What I can say about WC1,3,4 is that the designers where looking for a simple design. No details that aren't of any use...except to make ships look like Kilrathi/Terren ships.
-
Yeah, then you'd see how far advanced our models are compared to the CGI versions of the original.:D
Really, while the polycount was a concern for the capships(I've seen the original sketeches for some of the ships-lots of smaller detils are missing, though the general shape is the same as on the drawings) It's didn't matter for the fighters. They could've made more advanced fighter with lot's of greebles and details, but they choose to go for rugged industrial and simple looking style for the ships.
And as lars said, it looks more 'realistic' if the ships have homogenous surfaces instead instead being covered by lots of different tiles and having areas open to space with wirings and techstuff and all that.
But true, I could've added some more details, but this is one of my earlier attempts at rebuilding the Kilrathi cap ships so it has a bit lower details than the others, though it still looks mucho better than the original IMO.

Our server may be acting up again. We've got lots of problems with it for some time, it's all very mysterious.
@Bobbau: If you look more closely most of the models in the movies were just ingame models with bumbmapping applied. And they were more ment to give you an idea of the atmosphere of the WC saga. Too bad we can't get any live actors for that. But any good character modeler/animator could do the juob as well.:)

I can see all 3 pics...strange.
About character animation...I just try to get my little robot running and I think I need someone who can tell me how to do it right...well we could ask Square if they could lend us some animators from FF7 Advent children ^_^
And befor someone aks...this is my first try on modeling with Max, no tutorials, no help so far Tachikoma-like-robot (http://img121.exs.cx/img121/4064/Mainbody-per.jpg)
Its for school...next week the Max lessons will start and I just wanted to be a little ahead.
