It's not over until all the votes are counted, so nobody should be calling the election
additionally there are officially 10K provisionals in iowa and 60K absentees out not-yet-counting
-
;) ;)
OK, not worries. Though I would like to think that HLP is influential, I don't think its quite that influential, enough to make a difference in the US elections.
I for one am not calling it, merely pointing out who is more likely to win, and thats Bush at this point.
BTW, what are the Florida ballots? Cause I though they had all been counted, so are these absentee ballots or provisional or what?
-
Kazan fails to mention winconsin also.
-
redmenace: generally reliable sources have called it - and i would be suprised if it changes
Rictor: Provisional
-
The exit polls are reasonably reliable, unfortunately. I'm still hoping Kerry wins it, but, well, I doubt it at this point.
-
the exit polls were showing kerry victory in both FL and OH
we need a 3:2 split in provisional ballots in florida to win (that's 60-40)
that should be EASILY attained in provisional
-
that could be easily attained in florida. But, we are in unknown territory at this point. The provisional ballots are new and we do not have any idea how they will go. In addition we don't know what districts in Fl have these ballots.
-
are there any sources where you can get info about registered numbers of people in the counties?
-
Well everything is staying that kerrey is saying something at 1pm about bowing out of the race
so if he does that its all over isnt it?
-
nope - concession means nothing legally
theorectically he could conceed the election - these ballots get counted and he could end up winning
that's why there is no actual concession yet - just bush claiming there was one
-
However, this one for sure will be close and could change with the privincial ballets

Castor concedes U.S. Senate seat to Republican Martinez
BY GAIL EPSTEIN NIEVES
[email protected]
TAMPA - Democrat Betty Castor this morning conceded defeat to Republican Mel Martinez in the down-to-the-wire race to capture the U.S. Senate seat vacated by fellow Democrat Bob Graham.
Castor said she called Martinez about 10:30 a.m. to concede.
''I have wished him well,'' she said at an 11 a.m. news conference here. ``I have congratulated him and told him if there is any way I can be helpful to him in the weeks and months ahead, I would like to do that.
''We both talked about how divided this state is and how divided the nation is,'' she said. ``I assured him that I did not want to get into any kind of a prolonged debate over who wins this state.''
Martinez edged out the former legislator and university president by more than 76,000 votes out of more than 7.1 million cast statewide. His margin of victory was by more than 1 percent of the vote -- just outside the threshold requiring a recount.
Castor said she would monitor the counting of absentee ballots statewide, but doesn't expect the result to change.
''Even if every vote is counted, we think it would be very difficult to make up the difference,'' she said.
Martinez, 58, who left President Bush's Cabinet as housing secretary to run for the Graham's seat, becomes the nation's first Cuban-American senator.
Martinez needed the strong support of Hispanic voters to win the seat. Also affecting the outcome of the race was stealth candidate Dennis Bradley of the Veterans Party, who garnered about 2.3 percent of the vote.
The White House helped, too, loaning him advice and advisors from the earliest days of the campaign.
The Martinez victory leaves the Democratic Party holding on one statewide position -- the other U.S. Senate seat held by Bill Nelson, who did not face re-election this year.
Castor said this is likely her last run for statewide office, including the governor's job.
''I don't believe my name will be on another ballot,'' she said. ``I think that others can energize the party ... and be successful.''
Had she won, Castor would have been the first Democratic woman to represent Florida in the U.S. Senate and only the second female senator in the state's history.

You know what this means? Hillary Clinton is next.
-
why posting all these politicals threads kazan. BUsh own, its over.
-
U pished?
-
Hey Kazan, notice how absolutely no one in the media, or for that matter anyone in the Kerry campaign, was/is discussing Florida? That's because everyone but you knows that Bush has won it. And so much for Bush "claiming" a concession; if that's true, what was that speech by Kerry about that I watched earlier? Once and for all, face it: Kerry lost, Bush won. Go drown your woe in a bottle of Jack Daniels, for all I care, but stop posting total BS.
-
Mongoose: learn to read post times
-
I did read your post time, and at that time, every major news network was reporting Kerry's concession. Hardly a Bush campaign concoction.
-
Wouldnt matter. Kerry would have to jump ahead at least 4 to 5 million votes, not the spare 2 million lying around.
-
Not really, for as you remember (or should), under the Electoral College, popular votes don't matter. If he somehow won Florida and Ohio, he'd win, even if he had less overall votes.
-
Mongoose: they were reporting it based upon the bush campaign saying that kerry called them -- i hadn't heard it from kerry's mouth yet
Tin Can: The Electoral College makes the decision, not hte popular vote -- remember
-
Sorry. Never watched an election before. Just going off the numbers on the screen.
EDIT: your numbers are wrong Kaz.
Only 143K votes uncounted in Ohio, and even if they were all for Kerry, it wont make up for the difference Bush has in the lead.
Im sure you heard all of this on SEE EN EN dont you? How about EN BEE SEE? PEE BEE ES? (PBS was actually dumbass enough to make the stuidest comments I have ever seen)
-
Tin Can: the 175K was the Ohio Sec Of States estimate - my number was wrong because he number was wrong
-
he wasn't trying to make you into a liar, kazan. Atleast I hope not those are just more up to date number nothing more.
-
No one wants to play the monster in this thread. Many <3 to all Democrats and Republicans. :D

i chose to ignore it because of that
-
Werent you the one calling Fox, "FAUX news"?
So, I choose to mispell them as appropriated.
-
Yours is actually more derogatory, Tin Can. Kazan's was a pun, while yours is an insult to his intelligence.
-
but there both equaly annoying and makes who ever says them look like an ass.
-
Dont care. Dont like it, suck it up. I have to deal with stuff I dont like and I dont make a fuss because "OMG YOU ARE BELITTLING MY INTELLIGENCE!
-
Blah blah blah.
Summary: Bush won. Kerry conceded. The end... or The End? ;)
