Attorney General John Ashcroft 'plans to submit his resignation to Bush in the next several days'...
-
source please
-
Indeed. You should know to post a link in this sort of situation. :p
-
It is The Drudge Report, which many consider to be a gossip rag. But I think this might be true because of the severe stress he is under. I am sure his marriage has suffered over the past 4 years.
-
But...but...he can't quit!
They're called the Blues Brothers for a reason. Its no good if there's just one of them, God needs both of them to do his work.
-
Traditionally, the entire Cabinet submits their resignation at the end of a term and then the President is free to hire back the ones he wants/needs or to get new Cabinet members.
-
This is terrible. Who's going be there to cover up the private parts on all those neoclassical sculptures?
-
Or protect the right of terrorists to buy guns?

Yeah, I saw that happen on The West Wing. :p

It just shows that natural selection loves freedom.

Google News: Ashcroft (http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&q=ashcroft&btnG=Search+News)
Good riddance. Seems like Tom Ridge and General Powell are leaving, too. I wish their boss would take a hint and follow suit.

Just to make it official

Im not in the least bit surprised. Its common for 1st term cabinet members to resign after the first term due to health problems, stress of the job, desire to return to a normal life, etc. Dont look at it like a trend or anything, just a common occurance.
Side note: Their resignation is totally ceremonial. They cannot go unless the president releases them. They dont really resign per say, they just inform the president of their desire to no longer serve in their position and the president will most likely release them.
Drudge Report is not a rag blog site as some of you may think. Its a reference point which posts all of the important headlines as they come and posts links to the sites of origin. To say its a far-right wing fringe extremist bigot homophobic propaganda center would be calling every news organization it links to the same thing. If you have never heard of it its www.drudgereport.com (www.drudgereport.com)

I consiter it to be a highly unreliable source of potential news, it has had a few realy good scoops but for every hit there are a thousand misses.
-
The only real use of the drdge report is letting you know what headlines to look out for on proper, reliable new sites. It's not about what that site includes, but about what it omits.
For example; headline is "COURT RULES BELGIUM'S LARGEST POLITICAL PARTY 'RACIST'... "
In the linked Yahoo article, it reveals that the phrase 'Belgium's largest party' is a quote from a member of the party, a far-right group wishing for Flanders to secede. If you go to the BBC article - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/3994867.stm - covering the same news, you can see a more accurate summary Recent opinion polls suggest the Vlaams Blok is the most popular party in the Dutch-speaking region of Flanders.
So you go from one headline suggesting the government of Belgium has been outlawed as racist, to the actual truth. And what is really interesting, is that the Yahoo article is somewhat ambiguous over the size of the party, but the bbc one is very clear. And you;d expect any competent person to want to check out the size of the part before writing a headline like that.
One misleading headline, linked to a slightly ambigous story - and it totally spins the actual truth of the story.
-
Well, it's great that half of the 'important' cabinet members are leaving, but I'm concerned as to who is going to replace them...
-
He's already replaced Ashcroft.
-
on a positive note about ashcroft and the justice dept., they have been pursuing the enron cases with out passion or prejudice.

Bush, with Alberto Gonzales, a pretty conservative dude he appointed to the Texas Supreme Court during his time as governor.
-
eh, he's not _that_ bad, especaly consitering the act he followed
-
Sounds as bad to me, just with added [glow=orange]~!!!~MEXICAN FLAVOR~!!!~[/glow][/size]
-
well the conservitives are all spasing out at the thought of him getting apointed, wich I take as a good sign.
-
He's more conservative than some of the other guys they were supposedly thinking of but not as right-wing as Ashcroft.
-
the thing with Ashcroft was, is, he's a Bible Thumper extrordinare. He's even more of a Christian fundamentalist than Bush.
Somehow I doubt he'll do anything to challenge things liike the illegal detentions at Gitmo, PATRIOT etc...
-
Of course all the conservatives are "****ting themselves" in public over it. That way it looks like Bushy is appealing to the liberal supporters in the country by bringing in someone who then appears to not to be one of them.
