Hey FreeSpacers, glad the forums are back! :D
There has to be girls who play FreeSpace or the sequel and adore it as much as guys do, right? I'll be damned if I'm the only one out there.
Is it really so hard to believe? What do you guys think?
-
There are none.
A few hang out around here (Tiara, Icespeed, Borealis/Voodoo) but none really give a **** and most have just been ensnared by the thriving atmosphere of narcicism in the Hard Light forum after their significant other was caught downloading Thunder's german dungeon porn from the Admin forum.
-
Wait, you're a girl?
Hi ;7
So, A/S/L?
Oh and:
:welcome:
-
Oh, you're Canadian :(.
Nevermind.
-
Yes I am a girl, lol, and I've loved FS ever since it came out!
-
A girl who likes gaming, sci-fi, Freespace AND the internet.......?
I knew drinking that paint thinner would be bad for me.
-
Welcome to HLP :)
-
Nah, I think the paint thinner cleased your system. Care to vote?
-
Anyway: Not to sound too pushy, but how the fuck did you end up here?
Link? Word of mouth? Random keyboard mashing?
-
When I got my PC, I got FS with it. I didn't discover HLP until late last year.
Thank you!
-
You seem remarkably up-to-date on FS development, judging by your sig.
I assume you've been lurking for a while?
-
Oooook...
this has to be an illusion............
A girl that likes sci-fi...freespace....internet....HLP?
O_O
Errr.......*shuffles feet.
*remembers the welcome speech!
Oh yeah, nearly forgot!
"Welcome to the Hard Light Productions Facility, where a majority of the last bastion of Freespace 2 fans are currently located. Current topside temperature is 149 Degrees Centigrade and weather conditions are toxic. This train is now in-transit to the HLP Main forums, where discussions rages on regarding politics and general freespace matters. For sheer goodness, please visit the SCP forums and grab the latest FS2 open build. Should you encounter any bugs while playing Freespace 2, please report it to mantis. should you encounter a Shivan in the vents, relax - it's just Carl roaming around. Give him your lunch (or lunch money) and he'll leave you alone. In case of forum invasion or war or even Derek Smart, you may use the flamethrower underneath the seat. But it's out of Napalm since we can't afford any. There are plasma rifles in the lockers to the front, but the lockers can only be opened by a :V: God, an Admin, or a hyper-intelligent shade of the color blue. In case any of them are around however, don't disturb them to open the locker or else they'll shoot you with a plasma rifle.
Welcome to HLP, and have a safe and productive day."

IIRC about 5-7 of the 2000 (registered) members here are female.

You don't know the half of them! I wouldn't be so sure.
-
The only woman on here who posts with a frequency even vaguely resembling 'often' is Tiara.
And she's so masculine, she makes Ron-mother****ing-Jeremy look feminine.

So... suzy's not a girl...??
-
She is a girl, simply an0n did not list her.
-
My lady works for MT and will be working for Origins shortly. She is learning how to Fred, and is coming along.
-
The FS community has a particularily bad ratio :p
-
As perfect as my memory may be, the listing of people who are of little consequence, infrequent appearance and shallowness of mentality is of infinitecimal importance to me and, as such, their names are kept on a tiny piece of paper, locked in a tiny little box, surrounded by larger, more important boxes in the vast library that is my recollective faculty.
Put simply: I remember everything and everyone, but I am far too lazy to list them all.
-
Lo. There're a couple of girls at SG, but I think they're descenters rather thanFreespacers.
-
Yeah, the Descent people are all women.
*starts another inter-community war*
-
Hi Maruader, welcome to HLP :)
-
Well, my girlfriend's a Freespacer, since I introduced it to her some time last year.
-
DW-Suzanna indeed springs to mind.
Once the iso version of FSO is done, I'll convert some people over to the faith.

/me loves Taylor.
I'll take DVD's too......
I can't provide hosting, but I can spread the disks, not iso's.
-
My sister plays the game, but doesn't come here. Some of her friends might as well, I'm not sure.
My friend Corey's three sisters all play. After playing Terminal Velocity forever, FS2_Open kinda blew them away...but so far as I know, they only play LAN games.
-
Two people I play freespace 2 with in our office are girls (huge Starwars fans).

Suck it. Fusion owns j00. :p
-
I voted to the 100 / 1 option, however, the number of males to one female is far higher, it is around 400-500.
-
That scares me :nervous:
-
Better than my estimate I chose 1000/1
Incidently I would never again get my significant other involved in my hobbies if she didn't ALREADY share them. Cause when it ends you loose divided friends, then whole gaming groups... :(
-
Ok, so my ratios are a bit...irrational...I woke up at 4:30 this morning...he he...
-
You can't have a ratio that's irrational. It's a mathematical law! :D
*runs*
-
d'oh.
-
Like it really matters. You can't ogle someone on the internet. Although an0n was sure trying...
And sort of an odd first post...
/me wonders if this is like aunt thrax...
-
On our polish FS community we got three girs:
Phoenix, Valkyrie, Aga. They post time to time on our forum and two of them are preaty good pilots :)

Damn you're right...then they're RATIONAL! He he we learned about the origins of numbers last month.
-
Round here, it's about 100:1.
-
I voted 1:1 because i´m a big fan of wishfull thinking.
:p
Oh, and...

The more FSers the merrier...
Gender makes no differnce (but having more females around here would be a definate improvement)

At least until they whup your ass at Multiplay ;)

Incorrect. You can have irrational ratios - its very easy. For example -
1:square root of 2. Square root of 2 is irrational, so the ratio is irrational.
-
I voted 1000:1. Seems to be about right. We have a few tho...maybe 100:1 is more realistic. I'm not sure.
Another Canuck is good tho! :D
-
I can't believe that the 1000/1 ratio is still in majority! There aren't even 1000 freespacers altogether. :doubt:

Filthy, filthy rotten lies! You disgust me, sir!
*washes it all down with a warm cup of lies*
-
That's no lie, at most a bad estimation. Think first before you accuse anyone of lying.
At better forums, the post above causes a ban, you are lucky to have written that here.
Your post has been reported to an admin, it is a personal attack.

Oops. It wasn't serious. Notice I 'washed it (your comment) all down with a warm cup of lies (my comment)', meaning that I was making myself believe it was a lie by drinking more lies (or that it not being a lie is a lie itself), or something to that effect.

allright thats enough, stop insulting eachother, do it over IM and not here. Keep this thread on topic

No, keep at it. Ignore 'im, this is gettin' funny.

That is only a number. How many of them are still ACTIVE freespacers? At most 150.

No, the ratio is still rational, because it can be represented as a over b... a being 1 and b being sqrt(2). Just like the ratio sqrt(2) over sqrt(5) is rational, even though both the numerator and denominator are irrational.
A rational number is defined as any number which can be represented as the ratio a over b, where b does not equal 1.
-
Goober, you're mistaken there. For a rational number, that a and b have to be integers. That's straight from a math textbook. Otherwise, you could make the argument that i/2 is a rational number, even though it's imaginary. :p

Oh dear you guys are confusing me a lot!!!
I'm only in grade nine and what I've heard is:
Q={a over b|a,b belong to I; b cannot equal zero}
SOMEONE explain it please!? Clearly? :eek2:
-
Ugh. You're right, a and b have to be integers. I was going by the definition I had, which didn't include that crucial stipulation.

Hello Marauder :)
-
Meh, I break out the calculator for anything above division these days, lazy sod that I am :)
-
I break a sweat anything above division...
-
I break wind at the idea of mathmatics altogether...
:ick:
-
I get dizzy at the thought of anything above Algebra 1. :sigh: Which is pretty sad considering that I'm going for what is essentially a dumbed down(no Calculus(it scares me, I mean adrenal fight/flight level scared. whenever it gets brought up I get uncontrolably surly and ill-tempered) requirement) CS degree.
-
All hail Geology - the only BSc with practically no maths harder than sin, cos and tan...so far.

Yes, that's the definition of the set of rational numbers. However, there are ratios that are not in the set of rational numbers which are ratios with non-rational a, b.
Ratios != Rational numbers.

I still remember some of that from school circa 7 years ago (f**k me is it really 7 years ?)
what was it...? SOH COA TOA ? somethin' like that ?
-
In Dutch it's SOSCASTOA
SOS: sin=opposite/diagonal
CAS: cos="the one next to the angle"/diagonal
TOA: tan=opposite/"the one next to the angle"
Not the hardest part, at all. Once you get to the point you need 3 of those calculations, plus 2 times pytagoras, plus a couple of sketchy geusstimates about the shape of an object just to answer the first part of a question, you know you've hit a 'fun' bit.
-
I would have thought a word like "Hypoteneus" to be universal... odd.
EDIT - I'm positive that is spelt wrong, but I can't be bothered getting the correct spelling.
-
Although once you get away from right angles you'd have to know law of sines and law of cosines to get your work done.
-
Hypotenuse. ;)
-
The law of Sines is the only thing I like about Trig so far.
-
Amazing how you lot can turn a discussion about how many girls play FreeSpace into a mathematical debate...
Amazing...
-
Well, she is in ninth grade. Not a whole lot you can do with that.

Ok then, that being said...:hopping:

A man with a calculator for a penis and too much time.

Not that you know of.

Ahh, I remember a story about one of KT's friends, an0n, and IM...
-
I thought it was hilarious.
-
It was... I should give away my coworker's Im addy... :p
-
I stand corrected.
-
hmmmmmmm interesting thread............
-
So was that kAnGaRoOoO person not you then, KT?
And I still think Zeronet on IRC, totally wasted, was the best thing ever.
Observe:
* an0n performs the sacred ritual of "Come here *****" for Tiara
i wish boners were still as easy
........
WTF?!?
You should been like "What a coincidence. Have you ever tried anal sex?"
when the river runs red, try the dirt track instead?
What's the kinkiest thing you've ever done to a girl?
Like the most ****ed-u, tripped-out, sick as **** thing?
getting thrown out of a cinema os she was blowning me
What film?
Shrek 2
......
Then he goes on to give me his address and the names of both his insanely religious, Catholic parents. I told him I was gonna print out the logs and mail them to his house. He got real agitated. That was so much fun.
-
Whatever happened to him, by the way?
-
i cant recall any sexual relations wiv males
Too drunk, eh?
yeh
He disappeared 2 days after I posted all the logs on NW and hasn't even lurked since.

Such is the art of thread derailment ;)

Yeah, but will they give me a government grant to develop it? Will they ****!

Voodoo and telepathic indoctrination.
We've got a machine in the old (hidden) NW forums here that drains the blood of the innocent and converts it into what can only be described as a chick-magnet.
-
Does it have anything to do with the A.W. Project on NW...?

There is no A.W. project on NW.
And Yes.

Yay! Another Cananadian!

BSc(Hons) Computer Games Technology. :D
2D and 3D Geometry mainly. No calculus, unlike Earth Sciences (believe me, I know!!!) :D
In other news:
Hey, Marauder! Hope you're enjoying your stay. :)
Looks like you're one of the 'new crowd' who came to HLP first (okay, with a post count of 26 that was obvious, but that's beside the point). Quite a few of us (how many anyway?) emigrated from the long gone VBB.........aah, the good old days of Sixth Form in school........wasted hours on the VBB........
*Scurries back to his OpenGL coursework that he SHOULD be doing instead of posting on HLP........*:nervous:

I'm guessing you've yet to encounter the hell of the likes of Z, then?
-
That would depend on what context you're talking about. I presume you're talking about the joys of pissing about with the Z-axis. :)
Believe it or not, I can think in 3D.......to some extent. I've always had good spatial awareness, which I hope will make me a good graphics programmer..........*Crosses fingers and lives in hope*
-
Nope.
Z is an utterly horrible and unnecessarily confusing form of set algebra used to calculate such things as software correctness and execution time. Using it is roughly as effective - in a software sense - as sticking red-hot needles in both eye and cutting your fingers off with a rusty chainsaw. In Milton Keynes.
**** only knows how I passed - never mind aced - that one; the marker must have been very drunk or something.
I never did 3d graphics (smidgen of the theory with Java, but not proper stuff) at uni during my degree, sadly. Might go back and do a dedicated masters / phd on it if they give me funding, tho.
-
Oh, right. No, I've not come across it. I don't think I will either, looking at my module lineup........though I will heed your warning and take the painkillers beforehand!! :D
-
So...... found any girls?
-
Only the one who started this thread...
-
I find it the emergence of a 'best pick-up lines' thread on HL general mere days after this thread was started to be very worrying
-
Coincidence? :D
-
Probably.
Most of the forumites go into convulsions if a girl comes within 10 feet of them, let alone actually talks to them.
It's sad, but it's all a part of natural selection.
-
so what was that "random post" all about then eh ?:p
