Title: Need Texture artist for SAAB Hammerhead high-poly model
Post by: Omniscaper on November 06, 2004, 12:38:05 am
Need a skilled Texture artist to tackly my 90% complete model. Contact me ASAP if interested. When I say interested, I' mean interested in finishing. I can tackle this project but I must finish my Galaxy model first. That means it will be quite awhile before I have time to do it.

He's right.

That looks like about 300 polies...maybe.  HTL FS2 fighters are about twice that.

think 4-5 times that

so it's 2000 polies for a fighter?  I thought that many, while possible was frowned on...

Well, at the moment, its a spline model with 0 subdivision. From there I can start beefing it up. At 0 subsivision, its at 800 polyies.

Nope. Nico's Ezechial was about twice that. (although that was extreme).  The perseus was above that too.

all my models were originally created to be in the 500-1000 poly range.  if you were using the old engine that would be acceptable. however the new enine allows you to be more libral with the detail. id consider this model to be a good second lod.

But how would a Saab work in space?  There's no air to power the internal combustion engine, and the tires can't push off anything to get any speed anyway. ;)

Later!

LOL!!!

You funny dude Trivial ;)

Geeze, can't I do anything right!? When I released the high poly Star Trek runabout, it was too much (9000k polys). I've got so much flak for my Trek conversions being too high poly, despite the fact that I've yet to break 12000k poly mark.

This time I go conservative, now its TOO LITTLE. ::sigh::

Once textured, do you folks really think a 3000k poly Hammerhead is necessary when 800 gives precise dimensions? Stock FS2 ships range from 150 - 300 polys. I think 800 is a good compromise between quality and playability. Yes?

just keep it under 2k, 3k is acceptable on some models. if you do hi poly, just be sure to include a full set of lod models.

Don't listen to the heretics...
It's a good model with reasonable polycount, which means more of them can be on-screen simultaneously.

This way I can have fifty of them, as opposed to say, twelve, and a decent framerate too while running stuff besides FS2_Open in the background.

Why run stuff besides fs2_open?
Title: Hey guys !!!

I just got ahold of Borg124 (when I went to the site that ahd his ICQ number It was down!!!! Grrrrrr!) Anyway, he said sure no problem just list him in credits.

SOOOOOO that means if DG can get motivated again and finish the damn motheship the demo would be ready for fredding, he he...

Of course that was back with retail limits... I see you guys are already bumping up for FSopen...

Anyway you COULD use these as PLACEHOLDERS so at least the missions look close to what the fianl result will be. (why use a shivan when you can use a chig?)

here are the pics of the Chig models (yes they DID have some geometry erros but DG and Galemp fixed them) Plus Krackers and Galemp did a few textures for us and well here was the result:

Chig Fighter (blue, cause we like Blue...)

Chig Fighter (Red, my favorite !!!)

Chiggy Von Richtoifen (was still a WIP texture wise but, so what)

And the best of all! The Chig Bomber (this one is fricken hard to hit  cause of it's thin profile!!!) ALso it was the FIRST ship conveted (incidently by me!)

I hoped you enjoyed the pics!

[Edit] sorry! I didn't realise they were slightly too big. (my bad).

Yep. Pretty much exactly what he posted.

S:AAB had great models for all the terran craft but when it came to the chigs it looks like 30 minutes before they were about to start rendering the CGI someone realised that no one had made the enemy craft and got the tea lady to do them.

Surely we can do better.....

Well, the guy I was hoping to have do this does not have time to do so, though he REALLY wanted to. I do, however, have another person in mind. Shooting an email off to him. Will keep you posted.

I am surprised noone else has jumped on this though.

I agree. To be honest I think the best thing a S:AAB mod could do is include those ships for accuracy but go and make a whole new set of ships based on what we saw of chig design. Trouble is finding someone with the talent and the time to do that.

Post by: Getter Robo G on November 11, 2004, 05:51:39 pm
Before all the "hoo ha", this was planned for FS2 Retail limits. It's sad that DG was distracted by those "people" as the mod would have been done by now and instead of starting it from scratch you guys woudl have been like, "let's give SAAB an upgrade". I still had a section on my hard drvie when I was doing voice rips for the mod. (I never deleted it in the hopes that we would return to it, but I did stop making them).

should be GTV rather than just GT or GV. scratch that. a model like that should have same skin as the colossus

I think he posted on the wrong thread by accident.

I agree that we should be as canon as possible, but I still feel that we can take the canon designs and use them as a base to do better.

Omni, good news! Check your PM box.
