Here´s something i made a while ago, that is not being used in TVWP afterall. Now if only someone would paint it...

The missile turrets.

Impressive.
-
Oooh.....
-
Myyy...
-
Oh yee of little words...
-
I still can't tell wether I like it or not. It's shape is so basic, yet it has alot of detail... It confuzzles my eyes.
-
If someone goes to the trouble of mapping it I volunteer to spend a few HOURS per day going through texture combinations till it looks decent. (or rather FS2ish as I often go wild and try extravegant looks).
See the Babylon Project thread under XANTHUS for my latest attempt at covering a ship sufficently.
One thing for a complete texture all pieces needs to be as individually mapped as possible (meaning the person has to have an idea of how many textures cover that particular area for detailing). Throwing two or three general textures on the whole thing sucks most of the time. I like it when people seperate turrets, bridge, main body, engines, and other areas of interest (hangars, radars) it makes it much more enjoyable to pick out textures and in the end looks way better then "throw a wrap on it"...
Nice design, I think the turret bases are a little bloated though, but the missile batteries ROCK!

Excuse me, but shouldn´t that be up to the texturer? I mean, if you were Picasso, would wo have someone else choose your canvas and inks?
The texturer sees it finished in his mind, and because of it, he is the one that should map it to fit his vision. That´s how i see it, at least.
Having said that, the ship needs more than standard FS textures to really shine. It needs a custom map job, just like the Fenris. The FS textures have exausted their possibilities, it always looks "fishy" no matter what textures we use and how we use them. Wich is why i´m looking sideways to some textures i found in UT2K4. They are calling out to me, wispering "use me" in my ear...
..must... .. resist...
..the... ..temptation...
..Arrrrgh!!
:nervous: :nervous:
Actually, whenever i think about ATARI sueing my behind for every penny, that temptation goes away really fast...
:wtf:
-
It reminds me of Imperial Stardestroyer...
The model is very good.
-
Err, well, sucks to be the odd man out, but I don't like it so much. I mean, it's a great model, but it looks like a boat. I cruise boat. With guns. If you cut off the bottom half and put it in water, I would applaud.
It looks good though, just not so much FS or GTVA good.
-
It's sublight monster built before subspace was discovred, and advanced stealth/jamming methods hadn't rendered long range radar based weaponry useless - so its primary arnament must have been the missile launchers.
-
I'd make the engine openings larger and that radar mesh on top of the bridge seems a little un-necessary.
You may have problmes with those side facing turrets. You may have to have them face forward as default.

Which would not be much of a loss, anyway, since the bottom part does not seem to be equipped with any weapons.
-
I agree it does looks like a boat.
I would suggest making the width constand instead fanning it out from front to back. And combine the two top decks and scatter the attenea there. Lastly take out the 'windows' on the top deck. Looks kinda dorky.
If all fails, take off the turrets and I'd be a neat communications device. :)
-
its seems that it would fit as an armo(u)red VIP ship that heads of state or CEOs would use.
-
Wow... that's awesome.
Is it UVMapped? And what's the PCount?
-
It's a boat. *echo, echo echo...*
But seriously. It looks too much like somebody's 2 million dollar yacht with some puny gun turrets attached.

Duh! It´s a WIP!
:doubt:
I´m surprised no one said it looks like a dingy, since everything else was pretty much covered...
Oh well, we can´t please everybody.
::::breaks out the chainsaw and hacks the nay sayers::::
-
Hey, you're the one who posted it up for judgement, not me.

Well, presenting a WIP probably results in opinions for exactly that WIP. :p
General suggestion : cut off/reduce the bridge section, it's mainly that part that makes it looks like a "boat". Furthermore you may try to make the sides parallel in some parts, since the "arrow" shape (seen from above) adds a lot to the boat look as well.
So you got my opinion, now you may continue with your chainsaw. :D
-
Despite what everyone else seems to think, I LOVE it as is. Before you go hacking it up, if you do, I would like to see if my boys can texture it up. Lemme know if you want to give us a shot.
-
Don't cut off the bridge section - it brings back sweet memories of Space Battleship Yamato, Irresponsibe Captain Taylor and all the old warship like shows.
I suggest grabbing some ideas from Gundam though - those ships had good gun emplacements, if not for the Minovsky effect (radar = pile of useless garbage) they would have p0wned all suits.
Put guns on the lower portion of the ship, as said before.
I LOVE this design - it is merly different from FS Canon, though IMHO it can still enter the FS Universe as a sublight space battleship - ergo a ship built BEFORE subspace drives were common.
-
I like is as it is, cept the radar and the underdetailed rear section/bridge
-
Don't think it needs textures to be honest, its a really nice model.

Y'know, star destroyers looked rather boat-ish, as well...
-
Hardly. Only the bridge tower, and barely at that.

OY!! It needs to be textured, but I see his point. Maybe it does not need much .

Not unless you're talking about the Eclipse-class SSD.
The Star Destroyer's shape actually makes good sense, because it allows all the guns along each broadside gun bay to fire forward, the same goes for all guns mounted towards the centerline on the upper and lower surfaces. Of course, this costs you in rearward firepower....
-
The reason I said that is because people were ragging on ST's Ship for being 'boat-like' when a Star Destroyer or Super Star Destroyer have virtually the same shape, yet are liked for it.
-
But they don't look boatlike. Boats don't flare out like they do. This one doesn't flare out like they do either, it tapers at both ends like a boat.
-
:wtf:
-
Try again, with the sideview.
Note that it tapers at the end.
-
I'm sorry, but I don't see how it makes the model look like a boat (bad thing, apparantly) and worse than an SD...

-
Then I'm afraid you are beyond my help.
-
It would seem so...
-
Groovy model, but there's a word that springs to my mind:
Stubby.
It looks rather fat and dumpy at the moment - stretch it out slightly to make it a bit sleeker.
I like it.
-
Taking a good look at it again, I have to say that I agree with Pyro. Also, It looks more reminiscent of a cruiser than a corvette.
-
wheee! its the fenris's long-lost brother! :p
*ahem* actually, i dont like the model much. its a good model, i just dont care for it
could work as some kind of pre-fenris cruiser. lower polys though, that thing would hurt my compy quick. :)
-
You don't like any model not your own :p :D.
-
just curious..what is poly count for it?
-
I still like it, alot. :p
-
Ooh, I likes. I don't know about some of the other people, but I like the boat like design. Personally, I don't like some of the FS2 designs for the Terran ships. XD ...*runs before he's murdered*
