Title: Ship Preload possible?

Hi all,

i write this Post, because i have a problem with the SCP.
Everytime when Nephilim Bombers jump onto Battlefield i have a Slow Down and must fly a few minutes (5-10) with 5 FPS and wait that Freespace 2 have loaded the Nephilim completely, this is very annoying, so i want to ask, there is any possibility to Preload the Ships? I have rather a Loading Time takes 2-3 Minutes longer before the Mission then a 5-10 Minute Slow Down within the Mission.

I use the 1102 Build from Goober (now 1106 but i haven't any difference and used 0822 Build from Taylor before. The 0822 was perfect, but i have other Problems with it (Nephilim was okay).

Okay, loading times are important though, you may not mine waiting 2  minutes, but most others aren't.

Also, we need system specs if we're going to diagnose you're problem effectively.

Ships have always been preloaded.  That counts for about 20% of the mission load times in fact.  At first I would guess that it's a texture problem but that's not something that takes 5-10 minutes, more like 5-10 seconds on a slow computer.  The textures are preloaded too but from the 0822 build I made changes to fix quite a few bugs and speed up load times.  What command line options are you using?

Also you can try using builds of mine that are newer than 0822 and we'll see when it started hapenning.  Head over to http://icculus.org/~taylor/fso/willrobinson and have a go at the 10?? builds (not the one's with "inf" in the name) and see what results you get.  Specifically try the 1007 build which includes a bunch of bug fixes for 0822.  1022 includes a merge of the two sets of image loading code (bmpman).  1029 has the updates to try and speed up load times by changing how textures are preloaded.

Heheheheh I can see the problem there.

You're using the high-res animated glowmaps. Change to the recommended version.

^yeah, that's it, i was stuck like that for a while. Dont look at them, it's the stare of DEATH!!!!!

Correct.. i've reinstalled 3.6 and have only the new build without the Media VP.. and now FS2O is running without any problems
