 I am running FS2 Open v3.6 and finding I have a few problems. First of all, when I run the 3.6 exe file I get a registry error saying:
"cat get 'videocardFS2Open' reg entry"
To fix this I tried creating a new registry string called 'videocardFS2Open' and giving it a value of
'Direct 3D - Primary Display Driver (640x480)'
which is the same as the normal fs2s videocard string. However, this just produced another error saying Direct3D 5 is not supported in this release. No luck there
Also, after getting the initial error it prompted me to open the FS2 Open Launcher. One slight problem with this. Whenever I try to run any of the launchers above version 2 I get the familiar "this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down" followed by:
LAUNCHER caused an invalid page fault in
module MFC42.DLL at 017f:5f4057fe.
I have tried everything I know to fix this, but to no avail. Can someone please tell me what the hell is wrong?

Follow the guides for players at http://scp.indiegames.us
If you still haev no luck, we need your COMPLETE system specs and various build versions.
-
It's possible the launcher choked when you tried editing the registry on your own. The registry entries are formatted differently than retail FS2.
Try deleting the registry entry you added and running the launcher again.

I tried this but it didnt do a thing, I still got the same launcher error. Unfortunately the player guides didnt help either. My system specs are:
AMD Duron 800mhz
256mb RAM
Nvidia Riva TNT2 64mb graphics card
Windows 98SE
I am running version 3.6 of the SCP, but I have just found that I get the same problem with any build more recent than 3.5.5

It probably has nothing to do with your current problem, but that video card will most likely give you problems later on (assuming you can get it to work).
-
I know, TNT2 startin to get a bit ancient now....
 ok.... a LOT ancient, but currently I cant afford anything better. I dont think the problem has anything to do with it, but it is a possibility, considering the errors to do with the video card registry entry.
-
Sorry to say this, but I speak out of experience. My 16MB TNT2 couldn't cut it with the SCP.
-
You can get a Geforce FX 5200 for $75 online.
-
I still think its that registry entry you made. You 100% sure it's gone?
Does FS2 retail still work?
-
Havnt been on for a while, so sry if this is a bit late.
The registry entry is completely gone, no trace of it at all anymore, and retail FS2 still works. I even tried a complete reinstall of FS2 and the SCP but still got the same problem.
Previous versions of the SCP worked, but I think it is sumthing to do with the gfx card. I'll just have to start saving.

I'm not sure if this will help, but that filename wrang a bell. A friend of mine (who actually introduced me to FS) had to reinstall his system. He had been out of FS for a few weeks, and some new builds and launcher versions had come out. I had been keeping up with them, so when he reinstalled FS2, I made sure to direct him to the best builds of FSO. We put the files in but the launcher complained about the MFC42.dll file whenever he tried to start it. I'm not sure if it was missing or corrupt or someting, but he just did some searches on the net for that filename and found a location to download if from. He downloaded it (though I can't remember where he had to put it), started the launcher and everything worked. Perhaps the same is true of your problem.
Later!

Thanks for that info. Tried doing it and got a different error, will keep trying with different versions of the dll file. Maybe if I can get the launcher running i can sort out my other problem.

Do you have "Run this program in compatility mode for" set to windows 95 or 98? I had a problem when I would go out of the game it would jam. But I turned that off and it worked fine.
-
I also suggest trying to set it to 2000. For instance that was the only way I could get MW3 to work under XP.
-
Ni I am talking about utrn it all off. Thats the only way it worked for me.

How do I change compatability mode?
-
right click the file, access the properties the second tab should say "compatability" just make shure the boxes are unchecked under that tab, or try it with some of them on you never know. Anyways, good luck.

Uhh? No compatability tab. Only 'general' and 'version'

Because you don't have WinXP.

Well, I give in. One thing just seems to move onto another. Getting another comp soon anyways, so maybe it'll work on that.
-
Good luck then, I'd suggest a Gforce card if you want shines to work. But I'm smarter then to start a Gfx card war. And besides, the coders are working on the problem
