As some of you might know this site has been up for about a month now
It hasnt been totally ready to go until today. Now I can finally announce it. :)
Its main purpose is to be a place for discussion about space sims, primarily Freespace. Right now, I am currently looking fot new
projects to host.
As of right now all
that the site hosts is the Robotech MOD project (you might want to go check out some of the
screenshots in the screenshot thread and art forum). It will continue to be ressurected in the coming weeks.
Here is Info on hosting your stuff.
If you are hosted here you will get:
If you are interested in getting your project hosted please post a request in the requests forum.
Here is what you have to look forward to:
-You own website accessible via
http://freespaceserver.cjb.net/(yourprojectname)
-PHP, MySQL. (possibly ASP in the future) support running on Apache Server
-1-20 Gigs of webspace (negotiable)
-A project forum, managed by you (styles, pictures etc)
-Project webpage (basic knowledge of how to upload things via FTP and web design required)
Please apply in the request forum if you are interested.
Game warden is run from my server so it can be customized in any way. So far it has taken a significant amount of my time and
money to set up so I hope I have a pretty good return. (I had to shell out the money for the VB license and webserver)
Server Specs:
1.76 GHz 2500+ AMD Sempron
333 FSB
512 DDR RAM PC3200
200 GIGs of space
Broadband Connection (5 mb download/5 mb upload)
ATTENTION, all people whose freespace disks are broken.
You can now request to download freespace ISOs/VP files in this thread.

I think thats about it.I hope you like it. I encourage you to go check it out.

THE GAME WARDEN FILES SECTION HAS BEEN RESET,
REQUEST A PLACE IN LINE TO DOWNLOAD FILES.
I have now received multiple complaints from project leaders about the lack of bandwidth due to people downloading the Freespace ISO files. The files section has now been reset and you will now have to ask for a place in line in this thread (or the one at the bottom of this post) to download the files. I am doing this now because the last time I checked there where 24 different IP's connected with most of them downloading 3 or more files at once. This was simply killing my connection bandwidth to where people had difficulty browsing the site and forums so I was forced to put some sort of organization in place. A bandwidth limiting system will be put in later on but for now request a place in line. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Request a spot in line at this thread or the one below.
http://freespaceserver.cjb.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18&page=3
Not all bad news though :) . The Freespace 1 CD's and VP files have now been stored in ISO (CD image) format and can be requested to be downloaded.
Stored Files
-Freespace 1 & 2 VP and ISO files
-Silent threat ISO
-SCP VP files
-Any Freespace 1 & 2 campaign
-Freespace toolkits

My power seems to have flickerd out when I was sleeping due to the rainstorms we are having here right now. Sorry for any inconveniances this this outage of GW has caused to anyone, as it was about 12 hours. GW is up 99% of the time but its that 1%.....

I was wondering. glad to see that you're back :)
-
Server will be offline for a little maintenence. Shouldnt be offline for more than a few hours. I am putting all of my old parts that I just upgraded in the server. The good news is it should make for a faster server. Sorry for any inconvenience this may be causing anyone as I meant to warn you ahead of time and I forgot.
-
Ok, makes sense. Sorry for Asking.:)

Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!

Game Warden has switched to a dedicated host. New link:
Link to new site:
http://www.game-warden.com
Site files will be available soon....I hope.
Post at GW........
Welcome you all, for the second time! I finally managed to get 90% of the SQL data over to our new host and have therefore been able to put up the forums. The only thing that diddnt make it over was the image attachments but they should be coming soon. There are a few things I would like to address at this point right now.
-Site files will be offline until further notice ( I have got to get the basics working first)
-Project leaders and members should still be able to access their old FTP space at the same old location
-New FTP space will be issued as soon as I can create the accounts. You will still use your old space for internal operations (this is still unlimited). The new space however will only be used for project releases beacuse it is limited.
-Some of the attachments diddnt seem to quite make it over, sorry for any inconvenience that may have caused. Just edit your post and re-upload your attachments and it should be fine. If you consider the file urgent and unreplaceable please contact me and I will extract it from the old database.
-Please post any comments about speed etc in this thread (I need to know if I am getting my moneys worth for my hosting.
-MySQL has been being a ***** to me, so any database problems that you encounter please dont keep refreshing otherwise I will receive hundreds of database error emails.
Thanks for all of your cooperation through this move. I think it went relatively seamless other than some of the attachments not making it. Report any dead links immediately.
-Matt

GW is temporarily down...... :(
Hmm....now this is strange. I seem to have exceeded my bandwidth limit of 200 GB. Thats impossible i say because last time I checked (6 hours ago) it said I had only used 110 GB....so unless 90 GB worth of stuff (freespace ISO's etc) were downloaded in that like 6 hour period....wait....thats almost impossible. Someone must have posted that link to the ISO files in a REALLY active forum in order for me to get usage like that or there is something fishy going on with my host. I have emailed them with my problem and am currently awaiting a response. It shouldnt take that long......geez i sure hope I dont owe a bunch of money.
Bottom line... GW will be back up and running as soon as humanly possible.
-
This is bad. I really hope this was some kind of error.
-
Should be back up soon although at this point it looks like I am gonna owe some money even know its THEIR fault. In my prefefences I set it so my account would cut off at 150GB of bandwidth usage....but it didnt.....
-
Oh no! This is bad... :shaking:
Hosting multiple ISOs is dangerous. Perhaps you could Bit Torrent them?
Do you have access to your access logs? If so, you can see if there were a helluvalot of hits to the ISOs. Also, you can see if hits to other stuff was the cause as well.
Though this does sound fishy....
Who's the host, BTW?
-
Hmh. If there is interest, maybe I could host them on www.tbp-bt.com.
And because the game is considered abandonware, there shouldn't be legal issues with it.
-
There is interest all right, i can guarantee that. Perhaps too much for me though because any download that use 90 GB of bandwidth in as little as 4 hours is crazy.
UPDATE: Site should be back up later today allthough I have removed all of the downloads from the site until the next billing cycle so it will minimize the amount of extra $$ I have to fork over. Right now I am working with billing support trying to convince them that its their fault that they diddnt put the bandwidth limit on in time thus causing the bandwidth usage to go exponentially off the chart. I feel though that they are going to blame it all on me so I am prepared for the worst.
-
At least I know the site didn't get blown up by Andross.
-
Yea, the data is A OK but this bandwidth is absolutely bull****.
-

Or the Shivans.
-
If they really blame it on you I'd like to donate a small amount. :)
-
Well, FS2 torrent is available.

Thanks for your support. I think I will be able to manage all right with what $$$ I have. The gesture is much appreciated though.
I am going to take measures to make sure this never happens again.... I am sorry to say to all of those out there that downloads of the Freespace 2 ISO's will be discontinued for quite a while..... I am hoping to have the site back up in 4-5 hours.
-
We are back....at the cost of 1$/ GB. Keep the downloading of large files to a minimum please and bandwidth usage for the rest of the month shouldnt exceed 2-3GB.
-
You really went through 90 GB in 6 hours?
-
holy crap. maybe you need to once again institute the wait to dl it?
-
Apparently someone posted the links to the Freespace ISO's that I am hosting on a really active board (according to my logs). Massive downloading ensued. This screwed me over real bad because I had no idea (until it was too late) that my bandwidth was being used at such a fast rate. I was stunned when I logged into my account and saw the usage reports.
http://www.game-warden.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2346#post2346
-
Then, yeah, probably best you don't host them anymore. Didn't enough people DL them that you can pull your files and the others can leach ff it?
-
From now on I am just going to refer everyone to Mr Fury's torrent alternative. I cant afford (literally) to make a mistake like that again.
-
I am taking it offline for a while now. I just received a disturbing email from them. here is a clip from it. it says I owe 75$ extra that I had nothing to do with. I sure as hell aint paying it cause they are charging me for something that I did not use. I am going to work this out some way or another....
The bandwidth usage on your account has exceeded the amount included with
your hosting plan(s). Yesterday was day 21 of 31 of the
current billing cycle. A summary of additional charges on your account is
below:
Plan: My Crazy Domain Insane (158105)
- Domain game-warden.com http: cycle to date 298.860 gb, yesterday 74.073 gb
- User matthewpapa: cycle to date 0.001 gb, yesterday 0.000 gb
- User fsna: cycle to date 0.000 gb, yesterday 0.000 gb
- User mercs: cycle to date 0.000 gb, yesterday 0.000 gb
Plan includes 220 gb.
Already charged for 4.788 gb over that, for a total of 124.788 gb paid for.
Total used is now 298.861 gb (165.72% of plan, 78.861 gb over)
New charge added for 74.073 gb @ $1/gb --> $74.07
Projected usage for the entire billing cycle is 293.557 gb (244.63% of plan)
Projected cost for the additional 94.696 gb @ $1/gb is $94.70.
1 gb (gigabyte) = 1024*1024*1024 (~1 billion) bytes.
Please remember that all balances and transactions at DreamHost are in US
dollars ($USD). As this is the case, all payments must also be made in US
dollars.
To avoid any additional charges to your account, you can temporarily
'shutter' your site until your next billing period begins.
If you would prefer to pay for your excess bandwidth usage, you need not take
any action at this time, and your account will be charged appropriately.
THIS IS BULL****. SQL backups are safe. Nothing will happen to any of our data so thats not to worry....
-
well crap. can we reactivate the old link in the meantime? freespaceserver.cjb.net?
-
I am working on that.
-
I wonder what board was that active for people to download that much.
-
"Something Awful" forums I bet. **** this is bad. I am fixing to ditch this host and resort back to hosting it myself.
-
I know it comes too late, but one should never put any big files for download if bandwidth is limited. Or then use bittorrent for it like we (TBP) use.
-
Yea, I learned a lesson now.
Backups are almost restored on my old server! We should be back soon if everything goes smoothly....
-
we are almost there....
-
YAY WE ARE BACK. Same as the old days. All SQL data transferred "A OK".
http://freespaceserver.cjb.net
the URL www.game-warden.com now redirects you to the old address.
There seems to be a slight problem logging in without getting an error message. Ignore the error message (click refresh) and it should work.
-
Have you looked into the login problem I have? I need an FTP server. Swooh does not seem to come online again and I have a pang of conscience for using the SWC FTP for all the files I want to upload.
Please, I beg you.
-
I am tackling one problem at a time...
In the mean time tell me exactly what the problem you are having is.
-
I get the error 'Login incorrect', however I am sure I typed in the right password and username. Can I ask you to PM me my password, just to make sure my login info is eventually correct?
-
Hallleluyah!!!!
*does a victory dance*
After much convincing my host has found out (finally) that they are the ones at fault here!!! Yay. We should be back at the game-warden.com address very soon. Man, that really relieved me. I thought I was F***** there for a while.
As far as what I have to say to the members of GW, thanks for sticking with me....not as many complained as I had anticipated. Thanks.
-Matt
-
I didn't complain. I just asked what was up. :)
-
I haven't complained yet cause this is a public forum.....but you just wait til i get your ass in the GWBB Staff forum.......

hehehe :)
*prepares to smack MySQL and SSH for acting dirty to matt alll day*
The site should be working fine in a hour or so when they confirm my case and I reactivate my account. We lost the two or three posts that were posted at the freespaceserver.cjb.net but other than one would think that it would turn out fine.
-
My precious post! Noooo... It probably didn't even get a chance to be viewed, the poor thing.
Oh well, glad to hear everything will be back to normal soon. :)
-
I'm glad everything turned out ok. :)
@Axem I saw many people were on the board, but I didn't see your post.
May it rest in peace. (In the eternal abyss of digital nothing.)
:)
I've some new ideas for the first mission, and the stuff I suggested to add for the 'feeling' is complete. Just needs to be converted, packed and uploaded.
The new idea is a 'trail'. I think you know what I mean. ;)
-
We're going to have a trial for the mod? Dude, that SCP and do anything these days.
Lawyer-free-all!
"Oh no the JD Judicator!"
...
Oh, you said trail... okay then. And I think I know what you're getting at.
-
The site is confirmed up. Check it out.
Hopefully that roller coaster ride of going off and on is finally over. Dear god....... I am exhausted after that.....
*goes to bed*
http://www.game-warden.com
-
The site, she is no up!
-
Yea, they just decided to do that in an email all of the sudden. They (apparently) are disabling my account for a while while they examine my logs to verify what I am saying is correct. Hmmm. Dammit.
*goes to write another griping letter at tech support*
-
*hopes the site will be up forever and ever now*
Ok, I worked out things with my host. Things should all be fine from now on. I will now be paying extra for all bandwidth used from now to 7 days but mere usage of the forums shouldnt add up to much.
http://www.game-warden.com
-
MatthewPapa, whenever you might have posted my tracker information, please also inform that there's little point to to keep this torrent running if people just leave once they have gotten it.
-
Yea, I was just thinking the same thing. There are a lot of freeloaders. Is there anyway you can make it so they have to have a share ratio of something in order to continue downloading after like 100 MB or something. You might want to look into that.
I will try and share for a little while too.
