I just downloaded the newest FS2 Open (the installer). I installed it into a different directory than the actual FS2 (I don't know if that means anything). I used the installer and set it up and hit run.... the SCP screen came up for a split second then it crashed. Any help?

install it into your freespace2 directorry, it won't work otherwise.

Basically it's that simple. FS2_open requires the VP files from the original game to work. Install to another directory and it can't find them.

another question, i have it working but i'm not seeing the glow maps that i used to. before i stopped playing for this last year i had beams and weapons reflecting off ships. i have glow enabled in the launcher but i'm not seeing them in game. am i missing something?
-
beam and weapon light reflections are handled with the specular maps, I think.
-
i have them all on.. here is my load list
C:\Program Files\Freespace\FreeSpace2\fs2_open_3_6.exe -spec -glow -pcx32 -jpgtga -d3dmipmap -phreak
(by the way, what are phreak's options?)

It uses 2 scanning lines when you are scanning an object. Also, you might want to reconsider the -pcx32 line. For most things, it realy does nothing but take up memory space.

OK, if I went down to only retail FS2 then used the installer would I get the reflective hulls and the newest subspace warp effect?
I'm asking because I did download some other VPs that I don't really need and they may be conflicting... I don't know. I figure if I go down to the basics then start fresh, I'll only get the stuff I need for those 2 effects.

That'd depend on which VP file are those enhancements, if I recall correctly.
