Nice! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) I like it! However because I've never played SL, I odn't know how big the ships should be - there's no perspective for me. I have a rough idea of how big the ships are, but not a proper idea. Give shpis in the bg some blurring - just a little bit. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

I was just playing around......if anything, the fighter should have a blur. I'll have to figure out how to do that in 3DS.

It'd have a motion blur. But because you can't focus on anything, if the ships in the foreground are blurred, the bg is detailed. If the ships in the foreground are detailed, the ships in the bg are blurred. Simple enough (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Use two Preadators and put them near the station to give a sense of scale to the ship in the foreground.

I like it! It's definitely good, but somehow static... theres a lack of engine glow on the cruisers in the middle-background, but if they're stationary then I can understand that (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

So what did you do to just blur the fighter?
I have my suspicions, but it was like 1:30 in the morning when I did that picture....bear with me.

I think the blurring on the fighter is a bit too much. Try reducing the blurring effect and see how.

I usually do my pictures in a vector-based format so I can edit and move as I please, but as I was working with a jpg and not a vector format, I simply made a selection around the fighter and applied it.

It's the 'proper' name for object-based format (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) Ie. Not bitmap - more than just a set of pixels. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

You're using PS6, right? That should support vector. I know it supports layers, but it should have them in objects too. Like text, fully editable on its own, but an image instead. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Yeah, it has that - but my main problem is that Axion will not make lens flares onto a transparent background, and if I make it anything other than transparent (or the original picture) it looks wrong. If you could get Axion working on a transparent layer - I'd be in heaven (no more tweaking the co-ordinates of the engine glow, just move it to get it right).
