probably the only guy of any concequence to object to Irag and now he's gone.
-
:sigh:
Now nobody's gonna say "you break it, you own it."
four more years.
-
Seriously, he has a conscience?
We are reffering to the same guy, right? The guy who's job it was to whitewash the My Lai massacre?
He's only a moderate compared to Bush & Co. He looks good because he's in such bad company, not because he really is good.
-
At least he CAN walk away... unlike several Black Watch scotsmen...
-
Poor guy, i guess its just not natural for a black guy to be a republican. He couldnt stand the feeling of his soul rotting

Wow. That is an incredibly stupid thing for any person to say.
-
why thank you!
-
Well it isn't entirely statistically groundless.
-
This was expected. His replacement is a black woman, so any racial or feminist jokes are out.
-
Are you sure about that? The article I'm reading says "National security adviser Condoleezza Rice and UN ambassador John Danforth are tipped as possible successors."
-
Condoleezza Rice ...
With her being black n'all...
-
Well it's not certain yet is my point.
-
Well look, I don't like her either, but that was uncalled for.
;) ;)

i'm sure he was joking mate ;)
do we know he resigned of his own will? perhaps there are other factors we're not aware of that led to his resigning...
Anyway, this marks the beginning of the end for the Bush administration... watch.
-
no, this marks the beggining of unrestrained agression.
With Colin Powell gone, there will be no one around to say "You know guys, maybe we shouldn't use nukes after all" or "No Mr.President, you can't say "open a can of whoop ass" on national TV"
-
I live in the naive hope that even George W knows when his military is over-stretched.
-
Not damn likely. read my sig on NW.
-
You pathetic wretches don't get it. Sec. of State is the hardest job in the cabinet. Powell is retiring because he's probably exhausted. You morons keep forgetting that all the retirement/departures are usual and expected. For crying out loud, the heads of the Depts. of Agriculture and Energy quit today too. It might even be more money, the positions in question don't pay a lot considering the responsibility and stress involved.
-
I really feel sorry for Powell. His international crediblity was shot to pieces with the whole UN thing, and the entire Iraq thing, and well, he just really was there for the ride. Constently pushed out because he and Bush didn't agree on everything. Damn shame.
I hope he writes a book.
-
I never said he was forced out Lib. He announced months back that he probably wouldn't stay on for a second term.

That's at least a year's worth of masturbation material right there.
-
...I don't follow.
-
Between the proposition to use nuclear weapons and saying "can of whoop ass" on national TV, a good chunk of the American public is going to get daily gratification from just playing back those sound bytes.
But fear not, my friends. When all other bastions of hope have collapsed, one beacon stands on the horizon, staying the Apocolypse with its steady hand! Could it be? YES! IT IS! Home of baked beans, MIT, and Matt Damon! The only state that didn't give Nixon its votes! That's right!
Massachusetts!
-
It was totally expected for Powell to resign. His job is a very demanding job: early hours, ****loads of travel, late nights. It was actually expected for him to resign after a year or so.
He didnt resign because of the Iraq war or anything like that. He disagreed with the President on certain points of the war, but if it was eating his conscience or something he would have resigned 2 years ago.
-
Tax-achussetts? Spare me. :p
-
That's a myth! Massachusetts ranks quite reasonably with regards to tax burden.
-
Powell claims he was resigning of his own volition and that he was planning to retire at this point anyway. A senior state department official claims otherwise and says that he was not asked to return, although he was not asked to leave.
-
well i wouldn't believe everything "senior official"s say... and it wouldn't suprise me if he was asked to resign
-
He's always said he was only in for one term, whether Bush got reelected or not. This is a non-issue, folks.

Meh, I was just quoting Homer Simpson. :p There's plenty of other reasons why I don't like Masachusetts (mainly because it's one of the bluest states out there).
-
Cival Whaar!
-
There's at least the very small crumb of comfort that it wasn't Wolfowitz who got the post.... then we'd be officially screwed (this was the man who both proposed the current "you looking at me? ARE YOU LOOKING AT ME? No? Well I'll ****ing do you anyways!" policy, and went ballistic when the CIA failed to find any information to discredit the UN inspectors & Hans Blix prior to the Iraq War)

You can't even spell Massachusetts! :p
Note: Sarcasm, if you were offended... well then good for you, eat a cookie...
