Damn, that thing's ugly. And they don't mention the range, either.

Straight to the point, and very true.

With that kind of performance, probably about 30 miles(50 kilometers).
The problems with Electric Cars are twofold.
1)The storage technology is not effiecent enough for long range travel. And one depleted takes an unreasonable amount of time to recharge.
2)The motor technology vailable is not effiecent enough, something like 40% of the input electricity is immeadiately transformed into heat and not used for propulsion.
The only alternative that can possibly be considered is one that:
A)Has at least as high a conversion ratio as oil. It takes only only 1 barrel of oil to extract 50, and it used to be higher.
B)Be inexpensive enough for the market to see the potential and make the transition.
The Oil Companies, with their obscene profit margins, need to make the decision to become Energy Companies and put large amounts into developing some alternative energy source that doesn't require rare earths or other easily depleteable resources.

Needs more wings.

What's that...thing ?

Alright, these are all valid points, and I mostly agree (regarding the ineffiency and lack of infrastructure to support it) but I am of the opinion that we should by no means allow the profits of multinational oil companies to come before the well-being of our planet.
Screw them, they rich enough already. I don't care about their well being, and neither does anyone else, for the simple fact that they don't care about mine. I don't think anyone would shed a tear if all the tycoons and oil sheiks suddenly found themselves without a job. Even you can agree with this Lib. Frankly, the government (and not just the American government, all governments, but especially America since it is such a large consumer of oil) should impose at least stringent fuel efficiency standards, and work towards the ultimate goal of making the transition of renewable energy sources. If the US gov't put 1/100th of the resources it puts into largely useless and ineffiecent military technologies into R&D for renewable fuel, everyone would be driving electric cars in just a few decades. Building the needed infrastructure to support electric cars would immensly speed up the transition.
That said, has anyone actually developed an electric car that doesn't look totally wierd? Whats the problem with just putting an electric into a normal chassis?
-
Weight, mostly, though there is no excuse for Fab 1 up there :/
The main problem with Electric cars is that it generates more pollution from a Power Station to charge one up than a normal car would generate in the same distance.

Rictor, the oil comapanies are businesses, their purpose is to make money for their stockholders.
But their profit margins are so high, they are among the few non-governmental agencies that can afford to do such research. Not to mention that it would be in their best interests to do sol.
-
In this world, unfortunately, it needs to be profitable to be taken up & mass manufactured.

And sod everything and everyone that they ****-up in doing so?
-
In what way have they ****ed up? Oil production is cleaner and more enviromentally safe than it has ever been.
You will whine and ***** until you don't have a microwave or computer anymore because you can't afford the components because no viable alternative as been found.
High Ideals are fine. We are fighting wars over them right now. But they have to be tempered with reality.

Bwuahahaha!

Is it just me or does it look like someone's idea of "futuristic" from the 1970s?

Let me put it this way, when I first saw the picture and read the title, I thought....
'Wheres the Antennae?'
-
I guess when you have an electric car, the world gets darker... Why else would it need 4 projector headlamps on each side?
-
Wow, that is one fubar car... i like it.

Hey, that's neat. In a sort of repulsive-environmentalist sort of way. Still neat though.
