To all you FS heathens, I found a helluva lotta mistakes in the Ross 128 missions. (I just downloaded it). No events for the messages or anything. So, I modified it myself. (Sorry, to whoever made the mission ;) ) I added voices and took out the two Demons so it would be more like the original :D . I think it's pretty cool. Only thing is, I think I deleted everything for it. .
-
Which Ross 128 mission? This one?
http://www.geocities.com/ipw47/ross128.html
Because it has plenty of voices and events. What happened when you ran it?
-
Oh, there's 2 versions? The one I played didn't have any events or anything. Figures. The one I got was at Volition-Watch Archives. Sorry about that. Although I think my version was pretty cool. I have to try this one out.
One more thing. I'm looking for voice actors for my new campaign. No name yet, I started the first mission. I need a guy who can sound Russian, a green recruit, kind of timid sounding, a guy who can sound Texan, and a guy with just a plain voice. I'm asking as I go along, sorry. Email me (check my profile) by saying you want to voice-act for me and send a voice sample. It doesn't matter how big it is, but I'd rather you sent something small-to-medium sized.
Cobra wants YOU *points*
[/Edit] Erm, you might want to upload it or email it to me personally. I don't think the link works anymore. :mad2:
-
Um, just some advice... there are way too many active campaigns right now. And there are way too many people asking for help. You're much better off joining an existing campaign than starting your own.
If you really want to make your own campaign, then you'll have to show a large amount of progress to get anyone to help you out.
Try enrolling in the FRED Academy (see the Campaigns forum) as a first step. You can practice your mission-making skills and meet some veterans.
-
You're gonna have to give the Ross 128 mission to me personally. The link doesn't work any more. WHY?
And to your last reply: HEY! I'm a good FREDer! I just can't use logic signs and variables 'n etc! I can make good missions! I'll enroll anyways.
-
Well, it's on a separate server that isn't 100% reliable. Try again later.
It's too big to put on Geocities, and I can't put it on my other campaign site. Maybe I'll put it on FilePlanet.
-
Do you know how LONG it takes to download stuff off of FilePlanet? I'm subscribed, verified and crap, but it still won't let me use the instant servers. Go ahead and put up there, though. But why don't you email it to me?
-
It's seven megs. And actually, I don't think I can put it on FilePlanet either since it's not a hosted site.
If you have YahooMail or GMail, I can mail it to you. PM me.
-
I have YahooMessenger and WHAT THE HELL IS GMAIL? How do I PM you? And SEVEN MEGS!? GOOD GOD!

Gmail, AKA god's gift to heavy emailers, 1000MB of space, invite only, no spam, great layout.

Private Message is your friend.
And SEVEN MEGS!? GOOD GOD!
:wtf: You downloaded Inferno, which is over 150 megs. Why are you complaining?
The reason it's so big is that it contains a ton of voice files and some sample screenshots.
A little advice... you might want to tone down your rambunctiousness. That tends to mark you from the start as immature and n00bish and is generally met with disdain. ;)
-
wait you got messenger but not yahoo mail? It is also 100mb and you can get emails up to 10 mb!
same for hotmail 125mb now... (wait I'm special I forgot) :P
-
Sorry. And do you know how long it took me to download inferno? About half a day! I have a 56 kbps modem for cryin' out loud! And to Getter Robo G: I've got hotmail, I just don't know if yahoo or gmail will send to hotmail.
-
:sighs:
This is the www.
*wonders the best way to explain the answer to the question*
All email services are compatible with each other (they will work with each other as long as you have the proper ending like @hotmail.com or @gmail.com).
If you need a Gmail invite PM me.

Shut up, 'Papa. :D

Edit Post is also your friend.
Unprovoked insults are not your friend. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Erm, don't mind the 2nd posting by me. I accidentally put a second one up. And, um, I'm new to forums. They only one I ever joined besides this one is the Hades-Combine. If I PM you, you'll give me a copy of GMail, right? And don't make fun of me, either!
-
*sigh*
We don't have to make fun of you. You make fun of yourself. :p Let me guess... you're 14 years old, and you have AOL. Am I right?
I highly recommend spending some time "lurking" in this forum (or any gaming forum) and learning the forum culture. Silence is a virtue, as is thinking before speaking. A forum is not a chat room. People generally don't post within minutes of other people (although there are exceptions to this rule), so conversations evolve like discussions or debates rather than chats.
You can't "get a copy" of GMail... it's an online service you sign up for. GMail in particular is a service that is only available through invitation (for the time being). MatthewPapa is willing to extend you an invitation.

^^What he said^^
Dont worry. We are not trying to make fun of you. I was once like you, we all were for that matter. I remember asking the same questions on some old anime board 3 years ago when I first became a forumite. I used to have AOL and a 56k as well. I will never forget the piece of crap computer i used to have....anyway.....
If you want a gmail invite PM (private message) me. I have like 5 and I would be happy to give you one. The reason they dont just let people join gmail right now is becuase it is still "beta stages" or in other words the final levels of testing. You get 1000 mb which should be more than enough for your purposes :)

Yes I am 14 but I've got netzon. It's a cheap and sucky IP. As for making fun of myself, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em! *PM's 'Papa*

Oh yeah: Word. I used to have a Windows '98 with a 56k and a 7 GB hard drive. It was a flippin piece of crap. At least some of the games I have worked on it. The XP I'm using also has a 56k! How do I upgrade it!? I HATE IT!!!
-
Use a drilling machine and expand the modem connector. That should vastly increase the flow of data. :D
-
[None, see below]
-
I'm serious! What expensive upgrade must I use to get rid of this piece of ***** 56k modem???
-
1) An Ethernet card, if you don't already have one.
2) A high speed modem and an account with an Internet Service Provider who provides high speed service. Get out the Yellow Pages and look for high speed ISPs in your area. They usually provide you with the modem when you sign up with them.
-
*sighs* I've been thinking of getting netzero highspeed internet. It costs about $5 more than netzon. About $14.95 for netzero. and how much is an ethernet card? (Actually, I think I've got one, doesn't it look like an internet connection and says "ethernet" above it?)
-
No, dont do that. Its still a 56k connection they just compress image files you download while your browsing. Get DSL or Cable.
-
Nyeh, I can't afford DSL or Cable. It's $15.95 for the first 3 months and then it ramps up to about 40 bucks a month. I've got an ethernet card (I think, is it?) Don't you just hook up your connection to it? Oh, and aren't you going to welcome me to GMail?
-
Your ethernet jack looks similar to the phone jack on your modem, but a bit wider.
If you want to upgrade your internet service from 56k to high speed, you need either DSL or cable. If you can't afford it, stick with your 56k. There are no other options.
-

They actually showed a live demonstration with regular dial-up on page 3 and the high speed dial-up on page 10... I don't get it. How do they compress images while downloading when you're browsing a website?
-
Live, as in you were there, doing it, or live, as in you watched it on tv?
For all you know, one was on a site with bitmap images, that was uncached, and the other was on cached pages with jpg's, that looked identical...
-
Live, as in watching it on TV. And you're probably right...
-
Ok, in the world of reality, live means real time. TV is recorded, and they can do anything they like to it. This is called business. Then they sell it to gullible people. This is called being scammed. Then the user gets mad, but they can't do anything about it, because they don't know why its like that. This is called being technilogically challenged. See where I'm going?
-
I hate it when you people DO this to me. My mom does it, my best friend does it, and now YOU do it... Argh... On a side note, I need people for my campaign project. Can you model, or texture, or table, do all 3 by yourself, or FRED?
-
were not doin anything (just found this thread) cobra, anything that says 'go faster on dial up!' is just something to get yo uto buy it. it never actually works much faster (if it does at all).
heres my advice to keep you safe from those corporate bastards:
anything you see on TV or on the internet, dont beleive it. just dont. think theyre making it up and look for proof. if you find good proof, then think that is also fake. once you find a second batch of proof, (from anywehre but online or on TV) then beleive it, but tentitavely.
the corperations couldnt care less. the only company ive EVER seen their product do everything they say it could do as well as they said it could do it (read that sentence a few times, its hard to understand :p ) was caligari.com. truespace 5.2 REALLY did do EVERYTHING they said it could, and pretty good too.
however, TV is never to be trusted. its likely surpassing the internet in beleiveability.
PS, cobra, im not gonig against you :p im only as old as you are
never beleive anything. ever. it will keep yo usafe. also be paranoid, but thats a lesson for another day ;)
-
[None, see below]
:hopping: 404, post not found. You wanna cry about it?!
-
I know all that, I'm so paranoid on the internet I've got about 3 or 4 security systems on my PC. I also don't really believe in the crap those scammers put on the media. *watches Grimloq knifing grammar* Good Lord, your web talk is atrocious!
So, can you join as a modeller or what? I'm desperately in need of members.
-
Hey heres an idea go on one of those home shopping network thingys call up the number and then yell out STFU morons. Now that would be funny.
-
If I actually did that, Mom would kick my ass and ground me for a year or more.
-
you don't need an ethernet card i know some routers/gateways come with a usb cable
-
you still gotta pay for the service...
-
Yeah, but why do the flippin' conning bastards charge so much for internet?
Oh yeah, you're probably thinking I don't know what STFU. It's Shut The F*** Up. I used to go to a school where the main words were b****, f***, and m*****f*****. So, I pretty much get the idea. :p
-
who, sounds like my school. i quite literally shed all emotion after that year, since i lost use for it after hearing people swear that much. yes. thats how bad it was ;)
they charge so much because the human race is a disgusting parasite and doesnt deserve to exsist. we spend all our pathetic lives trying to get more money, and then we die, and it all goes away. its futile. :sigh:
its like how at the state fair, it costs to park, then to get in, and then to get into smaller events, and also for food, etc.
BTW, hadnt any doubt that yo uknew what STFU meant ;)
-
Hey, thx again for signing up. I set up a thread for Pathways discussion and member sign up, so we can talk there. By the way, what school do you go to? You talk (or write ;)) like a friend I have at mine.
-
Cobra, I'll be as nice about this as possible, you've been rather rude.
Youth or inexperience is no excuse for poor manners. These people have tried to help you and answer you're questions, and you've ridiculed and insulted them.
Now, onto you're tech questions.
There are too commercial forms of broadband that are available for public use: DSL, or Direct Subscriber Link, it comes into the house over the phone line but at a higher frequency than standard telephone service so it doesn't interfere with the telephone. Then there's Cable, a connection that comes in over the same coaxial connection that you get you're tv from. DSL maxes out at 1.5 megabits per second. Cable on the other hand is available up to 3 megabits per second. By comparison , you're modem transfers data at a maximum of 5.3 kilobits per second. Broadband is effectively 100 times faster than a modem under perfect circumstances.
Both these services are available from ISPs, or Internet Service Providers, at various rates. These rates seem exhorbitant at first, but if you can afford $15 for a dial-up you could probably afford $25 for a low-end broadband. Check with you're cable company.
Again, try to be a little more polite when people try to help you. They don't have to.
-
I actually ws being polite, I just can't express myself properly on the internet.
-
I pay $ 45.00 total for cable modem I made a deal with my landlord. He lets them attach the cost to the cable bill and I just add it to the rent at the beginning of the month.
As to how I can afford this wonderful service... Don't eat much...
As you can see I have my priorities right... :shaking:

I guess that depends on the place. My ISP offers DSL at 4 mbit downstream.
-
Charter only guarentee's 3mbps. 4 though, that's faster than the server can send it to you usually.
-
I consider testing it for a month, since they're reducing prices in January. 4mbit downstream for 30 Euro total, that's worth the try.
-
How much is 30 Euros?
-
BTW, Google is your friend.
At today's rate, it's about 40 $.
-
man... tis hilarious.... i remember my first days on teh net...2years ago with my *EXTREMELY* bad english.
then again now my english is still rather bad :D
as for the ISP... i have 64KBits/s but i pay it only less than 30$...
then again... tis croatia...
lepa naša pivska flaša :D
