We're really ****ed.

The home secretary says new civil orders are also being considered which could be imposed against people suspected of "acts preparatory to terrorism" even if they have not committed an offence.
...

"We'd be able to use civil (orders), like anti-social behaviour orders, to say, 'If you step outside what we've precluded you from doing, if you for instance, use this particular banking network...then we can move you from the civil into the criminal law', and then we can use the normal criminal justice process, " he said. Blunkett is a hopeless incompetant.

He believes the way to defeat crime is to pass more laws

I wouldn't start packing yet, such a ruling would smack of Equal Rights breaches, and would be unlikely to get through the 2nd house, or indeed the ECHR. That is why Blair etc want the power to ignore the second house for 'matters of National Security' ;)

The Parliament Act can basically ignore the Lords tho - unless the current appeal against the fox hunting ban is successful.

(i'm no great advocate of fox hunting per se, but if it stops these bastards from going Third Reich on us, then mon the red-coats.)

just under a year... question is, who next?

I'm suddenly reminded of a simpsons treehouse of horrors:

Random Springfieldian: "Well I do believe I'll use my vote for a third party candidate!"
*crowd cheer at idea*
Kang: "Go ahead! Waste your vote!"
*three days later* kang and kronos are rulers of earth.

Yup.

You Merkin's are quite ****ed with the electoral college. In Holland, we have about 5 big parties, of which 2 or 3 are big enough to supply a president. Currently, we are getting screwed by the government, but next elections......

Hey, I can vote next time, if I'm doing the math right and this government doesn't explode by then....

I say give Charles Kennedy a shot - and if he is on the bottle, he'll feel so compelled to love the electorate he'll actually give the public what they want...

Churchill was on the bottle too and no one much seems to say anything bad about him these days.
