Title: Release Candidate!
Post by: Fury on November 22, 2004, 11:37:57 am
We have good news for all you TBP fans. We have reached release candidate status for base materials.
Currently we are still working on missions, but these will be rapidly finished, thanks to SGT_R22eR and Roanoke.

So to the point, we are now requesting beta testers for the release candidate. And a webdesigner/webartist to help redesign our current homepage and our sister site, tbp-bt.com.

Beta testers

Request closed, we got 9 beta testers which should be more than enough. Thank you.

Webdesigner/webartist

You can see our current homepage here (http://www.3dactionplanet.com/hlp/hosted/babylon/)  and tbp-bt.com here. (http://www.tbp-bt.com/)

Your job would be to redesign our old homepage, and at least to create tbp-bt.com its own TBP theme.

If you are interested, please drop me a private message, and please include a link or two to a site that shows your skills. We can discuss about details either by pm or email. Thank you.

I don't know if you have noticed, but we think anything that's being worked on is being developed rapidly. Well, we're quite accustomized on sitting a fair few months on our asses every now and then...

Because I haven't yet received a single  contact about beta testing, I have modified beta tester requirements a little.

If you are unsure if you qualify, please at least contact me and we can discuss about it. It does not seem like we're going to have trouble to choose from beta tester candidates. :(

I would REALLY want to help you, but unfortunately I have a lot to do with the university at the moment (and don't know bit-torrent, but that surely can be changed).

Will it be possible to join the beta-testers later on?
Title: Release Candidate!
Post by: Fury on November 26, 2004, 12:47:38 pm
Unfortunately no. If you want to join beta testers, please do so before or on next monday.

On next monday, we will be contacting all beta testers about details. After that, planned beta testing period is two weeks. But it will be longer if required. Beta testers needs to playtest two or three campaigns during this period, mission by mission as they are finished.

Ironically this might not be the place to ask. Many TBP fans have deserted this forum. With the long, long, long, (wait for it).... long wait between releases you can't blame them.  Might be better posting in the main HLP forums on in some forums on a B5 fan / modding site instead once RW is done.

In fact, after I posted that people begun to send pm's about beta testing. We've got seven so far. :)

By the way, there was also a news post.

Both were purposedly left out of R3.0 because we want to release all of them together, now we have most but not all ships finished. They all lack decent weapons effects though.

In 3.1 which will hopefully be released 2 months after 3.0. R3.0 most likely won't have voice acting in new missions, that will be left for 3.1 to cover.

At least following stuff will be left for 3.1:
- Shadows
- Vorlons
- Babylon 5
- Narn transport
- Vree saucer ships.
- Voice acting for new missions
- And whatever else is finished between now and then.

So, I think I'm back now... Do I get shot for deserting this place? :D
Don't worry, I'm back here to kiss your asses again. That's about the only thing that I'm currently capable of (no mod skills, blablabla, and forget about fred... I lost freespace 2 ...)...

I'm glad to hear that we don't need freespace 2 for RC3!! Woohoo, can't wait to fly in me thunderbolt again. :thepimp:

Uhm....Fury would know better, but from the top of my head. What is new in R3:
For the Centauri: Primus/Secundus, Scarab, Brezebel, atmospheric shuttle
Various other stuff: Narn defense platform, EA Warlock, Skylark, Whitestar....and a bunch I probably forgot.

Major model update (Vorlons, Shadows, B5) expected with R3.1, which should follow shortly after R3.....which will be here soon.....

is it also possible to change the background in the techroom. becasue sometimes ships blend in so well with the background you cant see them anymore.

All you need to do is figure out the name of the background file and add in the old one from the FS2 vp file to the data\interface folder of wherever you put the B5 mod.

A small status update.

Base
- One model needs to be updated.
- A few textures needs to be updated.

Raider Wars
- Hopefully all bugs have been filed. Fixing is underway.
- We need to decide what to do about the fact that official 3.6.5 builds have broken special explosions, which are required in one of the missions.

I don't see any reason why release date should be later than next week. Of course, we aim to have a bug-free releases, which means we will postpone release date if needed.

And what we have planned for later releases?

As said previously, in 3.1 you will see Vorlon, Shadow and rest of the canon League of Non-Aligned Worlds vessels. We have also audio upgrade in progress, so in 3.1 you should have higher-quality audio in ogg format.

Mists of Fire campaign is also being worked on, it now has a lot more missions than in R2. This and also all stand-alone missions from R1 and R2 should be released sometime after 3.0 base has been released.

EA Civil War campaign is the black horse. This massive, approximately 45 mission long campaign is so big that it requires considerable resources and time to get even first 10 missions done. Honestly I don't know if a campaign this big will be ever finished, but we hope it will be. However, we will be focusing on to get the two other campaigns and stand-alone missions from R1 and R2 finished before focusing on EA Civil War.

Yes indeed. There is no hope because R3 WILL melt you hard drive and your brains. And then sell the soap to hostile aliens.

It does not taste good by the way, that I can tell you. Hmh... now that I think of it, our beta tester activity has been low recently. I hope there's still one or two left... Damn useless bunch.

Considering all the new niftiness, it probably will.

But I'm going to test that theory on a friend first.
