How to reconfigure a broadband router? I'm trying to get Xbox Live to work again but whenever I try to connect it tells me that "No DNS Server addresses were received from the DHCP or PPPoE server. Enter the DNS Server(s) provided by your ISP in the Network Settings menu."
-
try and find the IP of your router.. (it's usually with the documentation of the router) and you can config it from any browser..
-
Step by step would be nice here...
-
okaaay
1) Start-> Run -> CMD
2) (in the dos screen) ipconfig /all in this list it should show the local IP's of /all/ network devices.
3) find the IP of your router (it should be named in the list)
4) bring up any browser window.. and type that IP into the address bar.
-
When I type it in and hit enter it autamatically searches for it on google.

is the router hooked up to your computer at all?...
it should be the IP given in the "Default Gateway" line
DHCP should be enabled by default.
-
ok
-
It asks for a username and password, what do I put in?

well, there shouldn't be one required, just hit "enter" and see what happens..or, you could try the login details you got for your ISP account, that usually works. if that doesn't work, call up your ISP and ask them what the login/pass is.

So once I am able to access that I will be able to reconfigure/reset the broadband router?
Damn it. I dont understand why XBL is not working on this new console when it was working fine on my old console!

yes, very yes.
Damn it. I dont understand why XBL is not working on this new console when it was working fine on my old console!
also, check the cable. that might help a little.
-
Cables are fine. We already checked it by plugging in a Handheld and it worked perfectly for surfing the net. (I dont get the "cables not connected" error message when I try to connect to XBL, it says that the IP addresses could not be resolved)
-
Shouldnt the Xbox find the IP addresses on its own though? It is set to automatic.

it should..have you got the XBOX plugged directly into the router?.. or through the PC?
-
Into the router. One sec and I'll draw up a diagram of the network.

Keep in mind that this is how I THINK the network is set-up. All the cables are in the walls/attic so I don't have many visual ques.

well, i see here, two routers.. that could be the problem right there.
you've got two routers to tweak, take into account both of them, and whether or not either have a hardware firewall active.
-
3... actually...
-
Yeah but only 2 on the path from the X-box to the outside world.
Why do you need 3 routers in one house anyway? Especially when router 2 just plugs directly into router 1.
-
NM, one of those routers shown is a wireless router. Forget it.
-
I still dont understand why the hell its giving me the error message it it.
-
I'm driving myself crazy trying to figure this out! I don't understand how I could go from a FIRST edition Xbox working perfectly for Xbox Live to a NEW Xbox that seems to be crap.
-
*bumpage* does anyone know how I can get this to work?

try hooking up the XBOX directly into the modem, just to see if the xbox is at fault, if not, then it's a problem down the line somewhere, possibly onna your router's not allowing packets from the xbox to go through properly. usually a firewall.
-
That doesn't make sense though. It worked perfectly before with the same setup.
-
It does too make sense. If the XBox is faulty and sudenly stopped working, you'd be driving yourself crazy for nothing.
Also... Does it work when plugged into only one router?
Does the router have a built in firewall? Have you upgraded the router's firmware?
-
It doesn't like you, then.
-
whay do you have a router for each computer?
hook it into the first router,
actualy right into the modem, just to see if it works.
-
I geuss I can try to plug it into the model directly.

hrm.. okay, try getting a laptop/pc on the same line as the one the xbox is on... and see if you can get an internet connect through..
regardless of whether the old one worked on it or not, the newer xbox doesn't work with your router, let's focus on that, eh? :)
and as bob suggested, try hooking the xbox directly with the modem.. trust me..
oh, and judging by your setup, you could have just a router and two hubs, which could make sense..

For your router setup, try a blank username and a password of 'admin', that usually works for most brands. You'll be able to see if the XBox has had an IP address doled out to it in there if it's a decent model
