I've known about it for quite some time. I think it's going to be good. everything about Gunnm/Battle Angel Alita is.

edit: to clarify, it's not Dark Angel, although I've heard he wants to do a movie on that as well.

The movie he's going to make bases on an anime series. Never seen it though, so I can't say if its good or not.

Sigh. Another good manga/anime that's about to be converted into a two-bit live-action movie. Gunnm/Battle Angel Alita was one of the better mangas and anime movies I've seen.

Last time they tried it, they took on Neon Genesis Evangelion. The movie isn't out yet, but from what I've seen we can only expect out-of-character characters (yes, pun very much intended), a story more focused on Mecha combat than on the psyche of the characters... and overall, a pale shadow of Gainax' brainchild.

Well it is James Cameron directing...I have some minor hope he could do it justice if he tries.

But otherwise I'm already organizing the local fans for our sortie with torches and pitchforks.

Cool, this can be real good. James Cameron is a really talented guy when he is serious about his work and is not only masturbating his galactic-sized ego.

If we get "Aliens" Cameron, then it'll be great.
If we get "The Abyss" Cameron, then it'll be tolerable.
If we get "Titanic" Cameron, then it'll suck.

[color=66ff00]I thought The Abyss ruled.

Titanic is a pretty freakin great spectacle if you think about it, he perfectly engineered the feel and look of the era.

I was impressed.

About the only thing I liked about titanic was the fact he killed di Caprio at the end; I think I cheered at that bit and pissed off about half the people on the plane (transatlantic flight).

It's pretty turgid ****e.  Plus it portrayed a Scottish crewman who had been a hero in the actual event, as a self-serving cowardly villian.  sort of thing which always annoys the hell out of me.

The Abyss marked the beginning of Cameron's headlong transformation into grrrl-power chick-flick drone. There were hints of it in Terminator 2 (Sarah C's  "men only know how to destroy" rant), but only in The Abyss, with its "love conquers all" yammering, did he finally lose his soul.

If he turns Battle Angel into a feminist tract.... just... just... aaaarggghhh.

Kode - as a really big fan of Hideaki Anno's original NGE, I find anything as radical as the proposals in the live-acitojn movie pretty annoying.

Don't get me wrong, when it comes to NGE it's easy to get branded as a fanboy, but the movie will probably fail to encompass the biggest point in the series - human existence and survival in the world. As Hollywood managed to prove in the past ffew years, they can turn anything into a blockbuster with a ton of FX and little story. Not to mention the facts that by changing character names (as is the case in NGE vs NGE-live action) half of the character is gone, the Evangelion series will probably be only used as another giant mecha without hint of its real use. And so forth.

sounds like assumptions to me. I will now group you with the fanboys I don't understand, and say that the same things were said about the lotr movies before they were released.

had I loved everything about nge, which I don't (my personal opinion on it is that is severely overrated, just like kubrick is but that is a completely different story), I'd probably enjoy the fact that there's a multimillion dollar budget movie coming out based on the story, if not just because of the increased amount of people that will open their eyes to the manga and the anime, and maybe even that whore rei.

And NGE with a happy Hollywood ending would still be better than the non-ending the OAV gave us.

Kode, on behalf of a buddy of mine...

*STAB*

Never, never speak that way of Miss Ayanami in my presence. Only tolerable, non-*****y, non-****-spouting anime leading lady I have EVER seen.

To be honest, NGE annoyed me because...well, because I came for the giant robots, and ended up buried in semi-philosophical babble instead.

What really sealed it for me, though, was the fact an EVA can't go for very long without tapping into an external power source. The exact number no longer remains in my memory, but I think unhooked duration is something like ten minutes.

Point of Interest:[/i] If it weren't for the success of Conan the Barbarian, there wouldn't have been an Aliens (or there would've been a very sucky Aliens).

After Arnie was contracted into Terminator, the Conan people came back to him and envoked a clause in his contract to get him back for Conan The Destroyer. So production of The Terminator got knocked back 8 months and Cameron had the time to write up enough of the plot for Aliens for the studio to okay the project.

5 minutes, and why? I thought that was better than having eternal power sources from thin air.

omg, I wasn't even trolling seriously. :)

I'd love to know what was censored out, tho. that whole reply of yours kind of turned ununderstandable.
