It would allow self-important loudmouths to spew their self-righteous opinion and all that other stuff, plus it'll keep all of those threads quarantined and in check. It's a great idea and has worked on many other forums as well.

/*has sudgested this many many times*/

This isn't a religous or political board. It's a game board. We are just blessed enough to have an Off-topic / Real life section on it.

Ooooorr... *drumroll* ...don't enter the threads if you don't like it. :hopping:

Then what would we use this forum for?
-
Non-religious/political discussion, like tech support, what hardware to buy, etc.
Look at SG: A General forum for non-inflammatory stuff and a Rants forum for stuff that's either fairly crude or likely to turn into a flame war. Seems like a good arrangement to me.
-
Nobody is forcing you into the threads. Now a [politics] or [religion] tag could be agreeable. Or at least a rule that you have to define the topic clearly in the title of the thread.
But an entire new forum for it is excessive.
-
*shrugs* It's a good idea, but that doesn't mean we have to do it. Besides, I'm the one that chooses for me to get involved in threads like this, not anyone else. Most people know what they're getting into.
And I'll be the first to admit that SG's a different community. What works well there might not work here at all.
-
I would support this, except the problem is that if you set up a general rant forum, more often than not, turns into a cesspool of flames and other such items.
-
at least it keeps them quarantined
-
So, instead of keeping it in a few random threads you want to make another forum entirely? tell me, how is a thread not quarantined?
-
In the main HLP forum, we have active and alert moderative powers, so if a new guy comes in here, he can see relativly civil threads. If we made a second forum, chances are it'd be either super-moderated or super-UN-moderated, the former intilling a sense of crazy over-board adminship to newbies, or the latter instilling a wild and nutso post-whatever-the-hell-you-want mentality into newbies.
-
Unknown Target, like I said, it works for SG. It might not work at all here.
-
It's up to the admins anyway. :p
-
Yes. This is simply us, in PoliSci terms, 'articulating our demands to the state'. Whether the state chooses to listen to our ideas our stomp on us, hard, is up to it. Especially in the benevolent dictatorial regime of HLP.
Viva la admins!
-
I don't think it would work here, it would probly flameup hotter than a Abomb and get closed anyways.
-
Sometimes I'm tempted to create a politics and religion forum, and don't give anyone permission to post on it. Then I'd just move any religious or political threads from other forums to it, and the problem would be solved.
;)
Now, seriously, no chance. This is not a political or religious discussion boards, and while we tolerate such threads in moderation, we won't create a whole new section just for them.
-
Owww, I remember the days of the 1000+ posts religion/politics thread. :D
-
Hey, could we have thread tags? I mean, besides the smileys and so on. "Tech support", "religion", "politics", "rant", "[insert something here]". It could provide some clarity, even though HLP is so small that clicking through threads and reading them is not a waste of time. [Even with the bizarre and obscure thread titles we always have.]
-
One problem here, though, is that someone can turn a thread about video cards into a religious/ethics flamewar. :p
Seriously, though, this is a very good idea. If an ethics/politics forum is moderated properly and responsibly, it can generate intelligent discussion instead of the usual flamewars that go on in here. It doesn't matter if this forum isn't political or religious in nature; I visit another gaming-related board that has a great ethics forum that rarely, if ever, degrades to the level of a flamewar. It would allow people who want to skip all of the crap to do so without having to wade through every thread, plus it would ease up on the massive post-fests that usually go on in here.
-
"Damn you, you Intenl infedel!!!! FASCIST!!!!"
Like that, you mean?
Hehe.
-
As long as i'm mod of the forum... I really don't care. It just means I get to *****slap flamers, tards and trolls. :drevil:
-
Sometimes it's damn hard to tell that the threads are nothing but spew...
I agree, put the politics elsewhere.
-
The key thing about the Rants subforums at SG is that you have to request permission to even read the threads in it, much less post in it. A newbie is much less likely to be given permission right away.
-
Or at all once you get to know them. :p
-
Or you can put your politics/religion threads in one of the abandoned forums in HLP........ ;)
