Those sneaky Isrealis...
All those pictures you've seen of the Merkava IVs have been fake. This is the real thing.

That would be some awesome if it was actually real.

Back to the Future, meet the IDF. :D
-
Three words.......
Tanks in Space :D
-
Three more words: Foreign Object Damage
Running turbojet engines close to the ground in battlefield conditions is a no-no....
-
Yeah think about all the sand that will get into the soldiers eyes :drevil:

Thats what they make armor for. ;) Besides, it'll keep enemy soldiers at bay. :)
-
He means damage to the engine. :p

I think he meant the debris they would suck up.
-
Yeah, FOD is bad enough on runways.
I remember being stuck on FOD duty while I was in cadets years ago. Almost every goddamn time we went to CFB Greenwood.
-
Surely also a well placed shot to the turbine would cause massive damage?

Engine=Fuel Lines=Kaboom

Bit tight to get into, though - they'lll need to accelerate development of tiny midget shocktroops.
-
You can harden an engine against that kind of thing, though. Otherwise the concepts behind the Caspian Sea Monster wouldn't be effective.
It's called ground-effect flight.
-
Anyhow, the full text of the model is here: http://www.starshipmodeler.org/gallery9/jm_merkava.htm

Weaponry includes a nuclear ion pulse cannon and several small particle beam defense weapons.
damn :D
-
hehe...saw that too today....good to know I'm not the only HLP nut browsing through starshipmodeler.com

Bah
That would only keep the gremlins out of the works. :D

They had better have screens on the intakes, because even a small stone hitting a blade turning a 30,000 rpm, is a big ouch...

:wtf: Okay, does anyone else find this ironic? Australia has tanks? Sort of like Switzerland's navy, innit?
-
They are self-defense tanks, specially adapted to run on kangaroo droppings, so they can't be used overseas.
-
You know....I've just got a funny idea. :D
Santa's Sleigh v2.0! (if you haven't seen the Futurama X-mas episode, you won't get this at all)

Well, they are a sparsely populated country lying a stretch of sea across from some of the worlds most densely populated countries..........

 we too, have a navy.. :p
but given the mobility of today's armed forces, don't be too surprised

Damn straight!
Plus we got our SAS which will kick the crap outa almost anything else.
And if we didn't have an Army who else would America have to lose wargames too? :D
-
Ok, but would Australia's military budget not be better off being spent on Navy, not Army?

They probably have more land than ocean to cover, knowing Australia.

there's a LOT of open space to cover in australia
note: australia has roughly the same area as the United States, with the population roughly the same as california...
we do have a reasonably sized navy

nothing on the scale of other superpowers, we certainly don't have any carriers.. we used to, but not anymore..

Russia's answer to your pitiful little tank.
For those that don't know, it's the Shagohod, MGS3's equivalent of a metal gear.

actually, according to the chronology of MGS3, that is the first metal gear.
-
it has no legs so it's not a true metal gear. it's more of a forerunner to the walking version. You do meet the guy who designs metal gear in MGS3 though. He even gives you the blueprints since the Russians don't want them.

well, the definition for metal gear was a nuclear equipped tank... it had no saying in whether it had to have legs or not
if i remember correctly, arsenal gear was just a bigass ship
-
awww, you're right. Still, a walking tank is way cooler than a regular one and Arsenal Gear just reminds me of everything bad in MGS2. *grumbles something about seeing Raiden naked and glowing floors*
-
Quick question for those "in the know"
What kicks more ass, the Abrams or the Merkava IV?
-

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/israel/merkava.htm
r
i'd say comparable abilities, but the merkava's got that limited personnel carrying ability, as well.

IIRC, that front part can detach, and not walk, but run! Fast!

Merkava is also geared for desert combat -- IIRC it's hailed as the best desert MBT in the world, and that was before Mk. 4. The Abrams, IIRC, has had to be fitted with all sorts of dust filters and such.
Plus, the Merkava can down enemy helicopters with it's main cannon, as the vid shows:

now you've got me thinking of tank commanders going skeet shooting with their merkava's :p
