Title: Station
Post by: Thrilla on December 01, 2004, 04:18:54 pm
Almost done with model, and about ready to UV map.  Based it off of the Bora Base War Station I used to fly around in Tachyon The Fringe.

Pretty nice.

I would make the turrets smaller and add a little more detail, but looks good.

teehee you posted to fast, b/c I noticed it and then edited it as soon as I could.  The turrets are just on there so you can see where they go.  Another reason why the other small turrets aren't on it yet.

probably not cannon, but it would be cool if parts of it were to rotate.

I'm think about that for the bottom is it will be hard to just sit under it and kill it.  But I don't know yet.  I still need to put the bottom turrets on as well.

Nice, but those turrets are likely to end up shooting through the station half the time unless you give them a really narrow fov.

There short range is made up for b/c I'm going to put some other turrets in other places to cover them.

yeah, they are big turrets.  The laser that is going on them is slow, but powerful.

IIRC Bob fixed that shooting-through-own-hull-bug....or am I mistaken ?

Nice station by the way

No, it got commented out of the code because of balancing issues.

How about making it work only for custom models that posses the flag?

That way it could still be applied to overly problematic models that would greatly benefit from the restriction.

I see i´m not the only one to harvest inspiration from Tachyon. Allthough i can´t remember where that station in particular was located... In the nebula perhaps?

in the multiplayer base wars games.  Those 2 stations where the most heavily defended stations I've ever fought against.  I'm going to try and recreate the Olympus base, and a few of the capital ships sometime.  Wouldn't be a bad TC actually, but some of the stuff would be hard to simulate.

i see the new turrets, and the first thing that pops into my mind is 'homeworld 3'... :)

nice station, definite thumbs up

uh, why is fixing it so ships wont shoot themselves unbalancing? >.<

When I get home on Saturday I'm going to try and start texturing it.  I'm not very good at texturing large models like this so this is going to be a challenge.  I've already started UV mapping parts of it.

Title: quick question
Post by: Getter Robo G on December 03, 2004, 07:44:50 am
I haven't been able to find an active Tachyon modding group (or even forum) and I got teh game about 2 months ago (I love it). I was curious about extracting some of the ships/textures and don't know what utilities I need. Does anyone here have links or info about modding it? Though more in my case it would also be for cross-modding and bringing some of that Tachyon goodness to FS2.
Any help would be appreciated...

I used to have the .pff extractor for it, but the models are written in a language that we could never figure out how to convert them into somethat like a .cob type format.  Though the textures are still there.  I bought the game 4 years ago and making a story out of it would be great, b/c of the Galspan-Bora War you can make all kinds of things with it.

Bob...You are right.  GTVI Sparta it is.
