That's sad, but not in the least surprising. I suppose the kids would rather sit in front of the TV all day... :doubt:

I think the media has all but ensured that childrens interest in such activities once they're old enough to choose for themselves is killed off. Certainly if you were 14 and in a school right now and announced you were a member of such a club - the chances are your peers would laugh at you and in my estimation - society and the media are you blame for that.
I do remember when such activities were considered fun by all involved. Not so much anymore...

Wait, aren't Optimist Clubs for those guys with the boats? I thought it was stupid too, and then one day I mentioned it to my dad (or someone, I forget) and got told that an optimist is apparently a type of boat, which would explain why they're all located close to marinas.
