"Free speech in the public schools is an oxymoron." - Crossovermaniac on SB
I totally agree with him.
-
I had a temporary bus driver once who told the entire bus "Jesus loves you!" when we got to the stop.
I thought it was pretty funny and if he got fired because of something like that, I'd be pissed. So, I think that's pretty stupid.
-
Shocking. Regardless of the subject's controversial nature, you shouldn't lose your job over something as minor as that.
-
that's not the entire story - they kinda left out how the statistic she read was false and came from..... less than reputable sources that had an agenda
-
Namely Mel Gibson.
I think she deserves a good slapping (but not a sacking) for even talking to schoolkids about this stuff; I mean you're not talking to anyone old enough to check out these things or who should even care. Wee kids shouldn't have to worry or care about this sort of thing; let them worry about the morality of stuff when they're older.
-
When I was at school, a talking bus driver would have been a welcome change from the surly silence that greeted us every morning....
But, this does not seem like a sacking offence. Making conversation, even on this topic is just idle chat. Kids are smart enough to question what they hear, so what's the big deal?
-
it was a covert attempt to prosyletize (sp)
-
How can you know that? The driver read something, thought it was interesting, and told the kids to mention it to their parents. It wasn't even as though she said "This is true, ban it now or go to hell!!!!!" or something like that.
-
implication, choice of obviously biased source, "haven't produced any results in 23 years" when they're only been cultured for 6 should have been a clue in
-
Thing is, if someone in Texas got fired for saying that they thought abortion was a good idea, then regardless of whether their sources were accurate or not, I'd consider it a bit unfair.
