http://archives.volitionwatch.com/fs2/missions/campaigns.php3?Cmp=Derelict

And there are some voice files in the archives for the first five missions (Welcome to the Boonies, Bait and Switch, A Time for Penance, The Horror in the Deep, and Rites of Passage).

If the VolitionWatch Archives don't work try

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/freespace/Downloads/Derelict.zip

Doesn't have the voice files though so try VWA first.

...ur joking, right? Derelict proves you dont need a crap load of new ships to make an awesome campaign, while Inferno proves that a crap load of new ships CAN make an awesome campaign. I dont know how you can under rate two of the best campaigns in FS2's history, but I know I can't wait for BWO and Inf R2

no. not derelict. homesick.
period. no debate  homesick rules derelict anytime.
and as a plus it proves that one man can make a great campaign

HERESY.

I liked Inferno R1's gameplay, even if there were some logic gaps. The INF build of 3.6 is your friend.

Derelict had some FREDding errors (I've considered actually tearing the missions out of the VP and correcting them several times, and may yet do so.), but it was a great campaign, great story, great gameplay.

I would rate Homesick and Derelict equally. But Shrouding the Light beats them all.

i had to tear up derelict to get it to work.
it sucked so badly...
not to say SEXP wasting.
and i hate inferno cause it crashes at the same point in mission2

oh. no wonder you hate it :D missions 1-3 are some of the worst ones ive ever seen in any game! :p

homesick = awesome, but it gets borked on 'once again into the breach'. it keeps repeating it. any idea why?

derelict = ?? never played it yet :)

I'm just now playing Derelict for the first time. From what I can see so far, you're a ****ing idiot and need to shut up.

Inferno does NOT suck, unless you count not being able to play it with 256mb RAM to suck.

I guess the next campaign on my list is Homesick now. Thanks, moron. ^_^

inferno wreaks havoc on my computer. it hates it..

BTW, im still having trouble with inferno crashing when a wing of enemies jumps in on this certain level.

derelict = boring so far. then again, ive only gotten half-way through the first level :nervous:  ;)

cobra, it got too off-topic! dont worry!

just put a message in yer sig, maybe.
Title: N00bie problem...
Post by: pecenipicek on December 08, 2004, 01:39:57 pm
umm ok.
so im a heretic.
so WTFF?
i hate inferno for not being able to play it to the end. thats the only reason. hopefully when i get my new pc it wont bork so much. if it plays out nice... well my opinion might change.
i love the ships(well most of them) because some of them were made from the concept art from FS2 and the overall design is more or less good.
storyline sounds promising but i cant say for certain yet

derelict doesnt have any replay value. i played it once. it was somewhat fun. i played it the second time... i went like: holy ****. this sucks.
i simply hated those "escort" missions...

What you played was Release 1. They haven't done the rest. Play Sol: A History if you want more (I think).
Title: N00bie problem...
Post by: Grimloq on December 08, 2004, 02:49:38 pm
no, you have to wait till the next release

also, he cant play past mission #2. it crashed just like mine.

inferno ships are love-or-hate. no midway. some of the larger capships are ok, (a select few are REALY cool) most of the stuff cruiser and smaller is pretty awful, though.

derelict = still boring,  but im still 1/2 through the first mission :D im too lazy to play it right now  *is playing homesick, inferno, FS2 retail, sol: a history, derelict, COW, and warzone at the same time*

You can get CoW to work? It always runs out of memory and crashes to desktop on me when I try to load a mission...
Title: N00bie problem...
Post by: Grimloq on December 08, 2004, 05:09:24 pm
yeah, me too, but it works if you turn off everything except shiney maps, glowey maps, jpg/tga texture support, and ALL experimental.

even then, it runs very  S L O W.

i think it has something to do with having 4 seperate VPs...

oh, and you gotta use either retail FS2 or inferno build, as the agamenmon has too many textures for FSO to handle.

[edit] and use 'loads only used weapons' unless it crashes continuously when someone fires a weapon. that flag saves a fair amount of memory (enough, at least)
Title: N00bie problem...
Post by: aldo_14 on December 08, 2004, 05:16:48 pm
Try a pre-HTL version of FSO; CoW was made for 3.5 or something pre-HTL, so I never anticipated the texture issues :o (and the damaged model of the Ag has a particularly stupid amount of textures).  The only toggleable FSO feature it uses, AFAIK, is glowmaps.

Albiet you should still run faster in 3.6 with all those textures than you would in retail, so that seems odd.

NB: can you still disable htl in the command line?  That might help; it doesn't need the htl polycount limits.
Title: N00bie problem...
Post by: Grimloq on December 08, 2004, 05:24:09 pm
i dont think so

uh, the agamenmon has like ~20 different texture maps on it. it crashes the texture limit. polycounts are OK. so long as you use the inferno build and disable some of the options (or get a bunch of RAM ;) ) then youre fine. BTW, the agamenmon doesn show up till mission 3, so you can play 1&2 before you get inf build.

Post by: Cobra on December 08, 2004, 05:43:42 pm
I played through the entire first chapter. ntgm1r, you probably have a sucky computer. I got CoW to work. You need to get a RAM optimizer or something.
Title: N00bie problem...
Post by: NGTM-1R on December 08, 2004, 06:08:49 pm
Aldo: It does this when I try to enter a mission:

Error: Out of memory.  Try closing down other applications, increasing your
virtual memory size, or installing more physical RAM.

File:C:\fs2_open\code\GlobalIncs\WinDebug.cpp
Line: 1474

Call stack:
------------------------------------------------------------------
    fs2_open_inf.exe 0044a8cf()
    fs2_open_inf.exe 00401cef()
    fs2_open_inf.exe 00402185()
    fs2_open_inf.exe 00407be7()
    fs2_open_inf.exe 004e423c()
    fs2_open_inf.exe 00406c77()
    fs2_open_inf.exe 004e452f()
    fs2_open_inf.exe 004092ff()
    fs2_open_inf.exe 00409373()
    fs2_open_inf.exe 0060bf75()
    kernel32.dll 7c816d4f()
------------------------------------------------------------------

Sucky computer my ***...it does that, but it still runs as long as you let it alone and just go back into FS2 instead of staring at the error.

Use the reatail FS2.

(first post of 2nd page! :D )
[edit] DOH! beat to it...[/edit]

hmm... weird... i have 256MB RAM. it works for me (barely). just go disableing everything except shineymaps and gloweymaps.

if that doesnt work, then im out of ideas.

the COW missions and MODs seem to be quite momory-inefficient, actually...

OK, then, face it. I have a higher grade PC.

[EDIT] I type perfect and I'm fast. Teach yerself sometime.

Post by: NGTM-1R on December 08, 2004, 07:00:20 pm
I doubt you have a higher-grade PC. I think the INF build just doesn't like it.

Retail just CTDs without even giving me an error.

Not surprising. As Aldo said COW requires FS2_Open to work.
Title: N00bie problem...

:wtf:
so does *ANYONE* know why inferno crashes on mission2?

Does it give you the same error ngtm1r posted?

No, it doesn't.  It should run fine on retail, but (it appears) it doesn't run on FSO post HTL implementation[/i]. i.e. it worked fine on v3.5

The only FSO features it uses are glowmaps and glowpoints AFAIK.

i don't know about memory inefficiency; it's probable with Agamenmons textures, though.  There should be at the least a lo-res map pack for the fighters, planets, etc.

Really? I seem to remember it being the first FS2_Open only campaign.

Oh well I guess the mind's playing tricks on me :)

hmm... you using the inf build? on mission 2, it should work with 3.6. worked fine for me.

You're half right - it was the first campaign (released campaign) to use FS_open features.  But they were added in after a lot of work was already done (i.e. story & missions had been set, etc), so it was really just artistic stuff.

I wanted to play Inferno...but it keeps crashing while loading one mission (the one after the Diablo got destroyed I think, or somewhere around there) and i cant continue it!! :(

I don't get it. I play through the entire 1st Release and you guys have trouble with it. WTF?

3.6 don't like one of the freighters, too many textures. Grab an INF build or use retail.
