I don't like Krimbo any more - it lost all it's magic for me when I was about 10. I could just be getting old and cynical (at 19! Erk! :nervous: ), but it depresses me. It's supposed to be a happy time, where you have fun and see the people you love - even if they are pushing 80 and completely and utterly bat**** crazy (my Scottish grandmother). Instead, I feel miserable, hoping to have a good time but knowing it'll just be another lonely, isolated holiday for me. It's my own fault, but I can't do anything about it.....

As long as there's a list, here's some of the stuff I'd like:
>A freestanding target bag (nowhere to put one on a wall)
>A clue of what to do at University
>The rest of Megadeth and Iced Earth's back catalogue
>Laser eye treatment (I hate wearing glasses)

NOTE: I don't want this to degenerate into another one of those threads, so please don't anyone respond to these next two points. If you don't want to read something political, or if you feel you'd have to respond, then DON'T read them. Admins, can you police this and delete anything that derails the thread, or delete the points if necessary. Thankyou for your time.

>
Spoiler:
People in Israel and Palestine to stop, look at what they're doing, and realise what a complete ****ing waste it is to keep blowing the **** out of each other in a stupid tit-for-tat retaliatory fashion, and sort out a lasting peace. Preferably by telling all the politicians to get bent and starting again, but anything will do. It's a farce....

>
Spoiler:
The Americans to mind their own ****ing business, and sort their own country out before trying (and failing miserably) to sort out other peoples' countries.

>The ability to overcome my irrational but hugely powerful fear of people.
>Some more obscure heavy metal on vinyl, to justify the £120 I spent on that turntable a few months back :nervous:
>To develop my chi kung to a decent level.
>Going Postal, the new Discworld book.
>£3000 to finish my PPL (private pilot's license)

OK, there's not much there that you can just go and buy, but they're some of the things that would make me happier....

Life sucks mate. I shouldn't complain (job, supposedly good career prospects after uni, supportive family etc) but I feel, I dunno, kind of pointless most of the time. Like nothing I ever do will make a difference to the world, and that I'm wasting my time trying.

It could just be because I'm young (maybe not by this board's standards, but generally) and naive, and that I'm being far too idealistic/optimistic when I think I can really change things.

What the hell. I should probably just go and get drunk and forget about it. Until it comes back in a day or two....:sigh:

Bollocks to that! :p

I don't fancy military life. I don't like the idea of being sent somewhere to kill people just because some politician thinks it's a good idea. Plus it's exactly the opposite of doing something to make a difference - it's doing someone else's idea of something "good", which may very well not be conducive (sp) to a better world as I see it. Particularly with Blair having his head entirely inside George Bush's rectum.....

I have a horrible feeling that I'll end up as a politician. I can't stand the buggers, but the country (and for that matter the world) is so crappy that I can see myself as a politician trying (and failing) to make things better.

I thought you wanted to make a difference.  Who will make the bigger difference, the one doing the fighting (and can actually see whats going on) or the one sitting around trying to figure out how to deal with life?

Post by: Grug on December 07, 2004, 12:46:20 am
Well you managed to change the topic somewhat... :p

But the best advice I can give you is stop trying to change the world, and just try and control your own life, and help people around you.
If you become Rich and Famous, then you can do stuff for the 'world', or you could join some non-profitable organization or something.

But yes, back to Christmas wish list.
I wouldn't mind a new computer, and a few other technical gizmo's but I wouldn't mind a new gym-set as well.

Is HLP going to do anything christmas like? Or holiday season like?

Exactly.

ubermetroid: Joining the army is just going to mean I'm doing someone else's dirty work for them. And as for being "the one who sees what's going on", the military are the last people you tell what's going on, or there'd be an instant coup.

Grug: I'm in control of my life, I just don't like it.

ANYWAY, back to xmas:

A new amp would be nice - a Marshall JCM2000 or a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier. Not a chance of getting one though...

And a Paul Chen Chinese Broadsword. I don't really need it until black sash-level, but it's pretty...

If you want a watch that will survive a lot but you don't want to spend a ton (g-force), get a Timex Expedition. Stainless steel band, analog watch face and digital display with time, date, chrono, timer, and alarm. Cost $60 when I got it.

Christmas gifts aren't a tradition over here, but my birthday is January 20th, so I'll list that wishlist. It's all quite improbable, though.

1) One of those iRiver thingy's. 2" LCD, 80 gigs HD, vid I/O, audio I/O, MP1 through 4, DivX, XviD, OGG, AAC and whatever you can get a codec for.
2) Another 17 inch TFT.
3) A life.
4) A new HD. (40+80 isn't enough I think.)
5) TIME!
6) A new roster for school (So I can visit my comp sci class without missing Latin.)

Aside from all those, that will be on the list for friggin years I guess, I'll just find a few books that I'd like. The LAN party might be quite a bit of fun too....

Something to add to the list:

>About £5000 so I can give up my horrible weekend job at B&Q and have my weekends back.
>A new joystick and yoke - my Cyborg 3D died recently, leaving me Freespace-less... :(

Sinterklaas indeed. But it generally involves smaller gifts, coupeled wit funny poems containing jabs at the person being given the gift. And the gift is generally contained in a "surprise" being some form of interesting packaging. One might make a chessboard with small paper cut-outs of some football team as chesspeaces, or package the whole thing in ice, or gel-o.
It's celebrated december 5th. Got a couple of books, some new mugs, a bar of chocolate, and a 5cl bottle of whisky with a nice glass.

To my knowledge, only possible if your a woman.
And then that brings on health problems from exhaustion.

mmm whiskey...

Deepblue - looks like a pretty kewl watch... :( me jealous.
If I don't get a decent one, I'll just go out and spend heaps on a good one, and pay the debt off.
Rather than saving up for my new puter. If that ever happens then I can spam all day long... :D
