I dont know if this one's been done before, but here it is. And I did specifically avoid putting in bombers.
Personally (and I know I'll get flamed for this), I liked the Ares the best. It may handle like a potato, but nothing beats the sheer firepower of it. Erinyes comes close, but its just ugly to me...

I like the Eryines, and frankly don't think I'd be living through most of the 77th Blue Lions missions in something else. The Mara is teh uber, but you only get to fly it for one mission.
But when all is said and done, I prefer flying a Perseus more.

Ares. I actually found it was more appropriate then the Erinyes in the Blue Lions missions, primarily because they're almost all guard this or guard that. The extra manuevability of the Erinyes just isn't as helpful as the super thick armor on the Ares - or the extra 10 trebuchets you can load on the thing.
Erinyes is second best, then the Myrmidon, imho.

The captured Mara (terran) is awesome beyond words.
After that comes the Ares since the later missions in FS2 are quite suited for a potato with heavy firepower.
Finally, I enjoy flying the Pegasus. Although secondary capacity is almost non-existant (I usually carry a single trebuchet and a few tornados) and primary firepower consists of only a pair of Prometheus S, the speed and manueverability coupled with the ability to ignore aspect seekers make it very fun to fly.

There is no best ship ever...
The Perseus is very good at defending something like a big, like an installation, from enemy bombers...but it's dogfighting capabilies aren't as good.
The Mirmydon is the best ship for dogfights, install it a Prometheus S and two Subachs, some Harpoons and you are the king...
The HERC II, is a very good Assault fighter...Excellent at attacking small vessels.
The Erinyes, well, the Erinyes is a jack-of-all-trades, good at everything but excellent at nothing...Even so, it's my favourite ship.
and the Ares and the Mara-terran...They are extremely good, but i think they are also expensive for the GTVA. I mean, it would be awesome that every terran pilot had an Ares or a Mara-terran, but it would be unfeasable. It's better to have specialized squadron rather than all-purpose squadrons.

Ulises, Pegasus fast and very manevrubility that what i like:D and if i need some fire power i take Erinyes:nod:

Ares isnt exacty a true succesor tot the HERC-II another superb fliing machine I had many kills in the herc I love the Terran mara its owsome.....

Perseus all the way! I love the speed and meaneuverability, and it's got enough plating to withstand an extended firefight.

the perseus, when used right, (though im not saying i CAN use it right ;) ) can take on anything. ive taken down corvettes with it :nervous: in a dogfight, its unstoppable. on intercept duty, its stoppable, but usually only because you fly to close with forward sheilds down to a bomb you blow up... (boom). :D

Myrmidon with Prom S and double Kaysers. Failing that, either Erinyes with Kayser/Maxim or a good, old-fashioned Myrmidon with Prom S and Subachs.
Although I'd give it all up for a Herc 1. I'm a bit old-fashioned.

Sure, the Ares is though and powerful...but it's surely damn expensive...Not even the 70th Blue Lions have it available, i'm not talking about a group of rookies, i'm talking about the TOP elite fighter squadron of the best destroyer in the GTVA fleet ... ... ... only SOC operatives that were completely sucessfull in SOC operations are allowed to use it... so, there should be less than ten Ares in the entire Fleet... ... ... or something.

I'm gonna have to go with the Perseus. She may not be the best fighter on the block, but she certainly looks sleek.
The Eyrines is a good fighter too, but a tad on the ugly side IMO. The first time I saw it, I got its backside mixed up with the front. :nervous:

willy, ares is the new enriyes, when the enriyes went into general deployment the ares went into special deployment, there arent many, but certiantly much morre than 10, SOC squads, elite squads, and some CEU's should have them, certiantly more than 10, probably at least 40 in the 3'rd fleet.

Heh, a crack squadron of Ares can disable and disarm anything smaller than a destroyer in a flash. A gigantic secondary capacity coupled with a reactor big enough to keep up with Maxims means long-ranged beatdown.
Expensive? Definitely, but I'd bet the Hercules was expensive when they first shoved it out into the field. When you're up against the wall, it really doesn't matter.
In any case, the Ares may be useless in multiplayer dogfighting, but in the FS2 main campaign, it definitely kicks butt and takes names.
However, the Mara... can you say better than the Shivan version?
Speaking of the Erinyes. Is it just me, or was it not that great even when you first see it? I mean, one of the squadrons "saving" me was completely annihilated. The shielding isn't great, the armour only a bit above average, mediocre speed and agility, and small secondary payload. It's only saving grace is the quad primary banks, but the crappy reactor they stuck in means it's useless once you put anything bigger than a Prometheus S in it. The paintjob's nice and all but did the thing have to look like a bunch of bananas?
I flew the Erinyes the first time I played the campaign, but I wasn't impressed.

Perseus. The Ares and the Erinyes are too slow. The Herc II is sluggish and has little firepower with primaries.
I also like the Loki, but the Perseus is better.

Ehhh...you're arguing the merits of the fighters as though this were a "best" poll. It's not. It's a "favorite" poll.
Besides, the best fighter is the one with the best pilot at the controls.

the ares and erinyes just didnt do it for me. theyre not that impressive... and they look funny. too low-rez.
ares handles like a small planet. i always die in it, cuz i get like, 2 wings of shivans on me and i CANT SHAKE THEM OFF!!! you run out of countermeasures REALLY fast...
with an erinyes, i like to sit still and act like a turret. it seems to work... :p
but with the perseus, i can kick @$$. a wing of percys in formation would kick the teeth out of anything cruiser or smaller.
anything bigger, and they just knock the teeth off...
then kill it :devil:

The question is, how on earth did the enemy fighters even get close to you if you're flying an Ares. It's not like the AI really knows how to dodge missiles and you've got tons of those.

Being an irredeemable Shivan, I'd have to say the captured Mara. It's close to home without actually being 100% Shivan.

I still think the Myrmidon is great fighter. Massive firepower, fast, agile, sufficent missile load.
Still the Erinyes got my vote. ;)
But I think I enjoy flying the Perseus most.

Myrmidon would be one of my favorites, except for one thing - At least in FS2 retail, the bloody thing can't carry harpoons. And I HATE hornet missiles with a passion, especially with the small capicity that the Myrmidon gives them (80 missiles).
Overall, I probably like the Herc I or Ares the best. I picked Ares, simply because it is death incarnate in some of the later missions (particulary Dunquirke - just sit above the Arcadia, with a support ship nearby and treb anything that's remotly Shivan :cool: ) In a more dogfighting mission, I'd probably say Herc1, but without being able to try it with Kayser/Subach and Harpoon/Treb, I can't say for sure. (Though HercI with Prom-S/Subach and double Harpoon is nasty in Homesick).

Perseus for me. Not only it looks very slick and cool in different angles but many of its characteristics like primary gun points, gun position, speed and average sheild/armor reminds me so much of the good old Apollo fighter.
I'm convinced that the Perseus was actually not a descendant of the valk but of the Apollo. :)
