Ooh cool!
The day we get to travel to distant galaxies and live a "FreeSpace" dream, we'll be dead, right? Awww...:hopping:

Not if you believe the 'live to be 1000' thing.

FS doesn't involve multiple Galaxies does it ? I can't think of many Sci-Fi that does to be honest.

Even then, we still might be dead before it happens.

What, you mean the 'Freespace dream' where a 14 year war with an alien race, an  invasion by another alien race which cuts off access to Sol and a 2rd invasion which supernovas a sun, killing millions or billions of colonists?

Bugger.

No. We won't.

In the last 1000 years we've gone from bows and arrows and a life expectancy of about 50, to nukes and orbital weapons platforms and life expectancies of 1000.

Going on that curve, we'll be Gods before we reach 1000.

Gods or various bits of goop in a giant crater, yes.

That's the key, though-- the curve isn't even. Progress peaks and dips. Besides, I think interstellar travel will be one of the biggest hurtles humanity jumps, so I could believe it would take more than 1000 years.

I'm actually betting barbarism should be coming soon. We haven't had a good collaps of civilization in a while...

Yeah, I'm in the mood for raw meat off the bone, grunting, beating my chest, and some good old-fashioned mating rituals.

Wait for 12/12/12.

That's when the fun starts.

I thought it was 12/24/12...

We could also go for some partial barbarism. Only lose about 700 years worth of technology....

I don't really want to give up my iPod or my computer. Can't we have barbarism but with computers?

I suppose, but that's really more along the lines of anarchy than barbarism....

we can't go to other galaxies in 1000 years because the closest galaxy is 2 million light years away :p
